User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The mid-day sun lingered overhead. The morning had been too cool to go out and hunt for food. As Spring neared, the days warmed by the time the sun rose above the land. It wasn't the scalding heat of summer, but a refreshing, gentle warmth. Resurrection knew two great times to hunt for her fathers favorite meal. Had learned them from countless times she happily provided for him. Today it might prove difficult, with an audience following her. Her father, and the newly met grandmother, joined her in the pursuit of food. She headed for the edge of the woods, where she knew a few critters would be active. They too, looking for food.

Veil followed her sons-daughter, quietly. Resurrection had offered to provide a meal for them, even though she said she doesn't eat meat. Veil didn't understand her sons aversion to finding his own meals. A strange thing to learn. Kalona were mighty, almost draconic in nature! Many killed without complication, if they liked the taste of their prey. Yet Vapor seemed to be missing some vital piece of instinct. Getting blood on his horn was the bane of his life. He would get sick, dizzy and near faint. She couldn't help wonder if this was partly her fault, having abandoned him as a basket. She had no guilt for doing so. Only, curious if that could of triggered his bodies reaction to the blood on his unicorn horn. That aversion did not seem to carry on to his daughter. Here she was leading them off to do the work of lunch, without hesitation. Veil had offered to contribute in finding a meal, yet Resurrection had insisted that she provide for them on her own.

User Image"Really, Belvedere," Pachamama said, chiding her little mouse familiar. "There's nothing to be so nervous about." He was resting on her shoulder, and fidgeting with his little hands anxiously. So it was the first time she was leaving her herd's official territory. So it wasn't entirely on purpose. In truth, she was reassuring herself as much as she was reassuring him - there was nothing to be nervous about. They weren't even that far from her herd.

She'd been day-dreaming, drifting, thinking about if the spirits might bless the Kateri Herd with new baskets this season, and if she might be allowed to help in the teaching and raising of them. It wasn't that she thought the herd members who had taught herself and her siblings had done a bad job, per se, but....well, Pacha thought that perhaps there might be more than one interpretation of their herd's values. Something a little less biased against certain breeds, and a little more focused on how they could use their abilities to help others.

She knew that her family - her herd - had real and honest history with Kalona and Shifters. They were the bane of her family's entire existence. But to hear her family tell it, it had been halcyon days before the dreaded attack had struck, and Pacha couldn't believe that it was quite as rosy as it sounded. Every herd had problems, but she imagined that those sorts of problems rather fell by the wayside when they were attacked...

It wasn't like every Kalona - or maybe even every Shifter - was completely and utterly evil. Trauma of the kind her ancestors had experienced had a way of ricocheting through the generations like an avalanche through a valley, and Pacha thought that perhaps the only way to bring her family back to its former strength might be to show them how to take the high road. Maybe that was something she could contribute. After all, wasn't spring nothing more than an annual call for change?

"Pacha. Pacha!" Belvedere squeaked, scrambling up her neck to hide himself in her hair. "I have a bad feeling about this! Pacha, please, let's just go back home, I think it's a mistake!"

"Oh, Belvy," Pacha cooed to him affectionately. "You're acting like there's some hungry feline familiar around! There's nothing to be scared--"

That's when she saw it. Pacha froze in her tracks, absolutely still. the discordant visual was cutting through the trite doggerel that she had been turning over in her mind about peace and understanding.

The thing in front of her - still a ways away, but getting closer - was absolutely draconic, with huge horrible wings, two terrible horns, and spikes that could rupture and rend any Soquili who got too close, Pacha was absolutely sure. Every pre-conceived notion about Kalona immediately came rushing back, squashing her budding optimism about future relations. She had never even seen a creature like this before this moment - why had she been so besotted with the idea of making contact? These creatures were nothing more than killing machines, and this one was clearly on the hunt.

She was frozen for too long, she knew, but after her shock began to wear off, the fear that raced through her veins was scalding, like her heart was maybe actually, literally on fire within her chest. Some vague, far-away voice reminded her that Kalona were just doing what came naturally to them - or at least, this one didn't appear to be doing anything more than that - but that didn't mean she had to stick around and be an audience for its destruction.

With her heart thudding in her chest, Pacha tried to take a step backwards - only to step on and crack the loudest dried tree branch in the forest.

There was no way this Kalona hadn't heard that.

"Run. Run!" Belvedere hissed in her ear, sounding nearer to hysterics than he ever had before. "Run before we're killed!"

Yes, she should run, she realized dimly, but - she thought of a frightened rabbit, being chased down by a wolf. She thought of a deer being brought down by a bear.

Predators could only give chase if there was something for them to chase.

Maybe it was some latent resilience brought on by the survivors of the War, but Pachamama knew, suddenly, right down to her very core, that she was not a prey animal - she was not a deer, or a rabbit. She was a pure-blood Unicorn, and she would not go down.

At least, not without something resembling a fight.

But Pacha would be no match for this Kalona - not physically, at least. Mind racing at record speed, Pacha realized what she would have to do.

"Hello," Pacha called, loud enough to be heard over the distance between them. She heard a terrified squeal and felt Belvy dive back into her mane - it was possible he had fainted. "Do you have a name? My name is Pachamama Breeze. I mean you no harm, stranger."

Maybe, maybe, maybe, she could think her way - talk her way - out of the fantastic mess she'd found herself in. Please don't kill me, please don't kill me, please don't kill me...

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Vapor had been awkwardly bumbling along behind his mother? Yeah, that's what she was. She had suddenly showed up in his life, gave random bits of doggerel that made no sense, about why she had sought him out. Like she was trying to sound like she had some poetic motive, but since she had no real conviction or compassion, it came out as nonsense to him. Almost like it was a game for her to try and be dramatic, knowing it all came out drivel. At first he didn't believe she was even his mother, but after a short while, he felt it couldn't be denied. She knew too much about him. How she knew anything since she abandoned him as a basket? He didn't know.

While Resurrection looked for his next snack, Vapor was day-dreaming, unable to focus with his mother following along. How long did she intend to stay? Hopefully not long... Perhaps he would be the one to leave. Yes, that sounded like a good plan as well. As his mind wondered, he noticed someone in the clear. The fleck of golden eye narrowed, honing in on a white blur. He was budding with curiosity, and could of sworn he heard a frantic squeal carry on the wind. His face widened into a grin, tuning out the two females he followed. He heard some other words, but only barely. He folded up his wings, trying to look smaller, hoping she would come closer. Females were an easier target for Vapor to bully, so he liked when he ran into them.

Trigger WARNING. Death of an animal, though it doesn't mention what exactly. Very mild mention of blood.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Resurrection put up a wing and told her followers to be quiet. She went still as death, noticing a small critter up ahead. The small life, distracted by it's own foraging. It did not hear Resurrection approach, having been ahead of her party. She honed in on her prey, with feline like movements. Only moving an inch at a time, when the critter didn't look in her area. Pulling a knife out, slowly. Then the critter turned, head up at the sound of someone calling in the distance. It gave her the opening she needed. Feather and wing ruptured through the air, cutting through the silence. Resurrection Sinclair descended upon the critter. She lay on the ground, wings spread, looking as if she had melted into the earth.

Resurrection pulled back her head and wings. Before her, the knife lay in the unmoving prey, having perfectly found its mark. The life below it's still, gone before any suffering had occurred.

She began to whisper to the small animal, as if it could hear her.

Ever since she was young, she had this pre-conceived idea that she was blessed by the spirits. Her life returned to her after being stillbirth. Which led her to believe she had been chosen. Her path, one to lead those to the light when needed. More so, she snuffed out the light in others, when she thought it would protect the balance. So the words she spoke were from a place she felt deep in her soul, were meaningful and true. She began to whisper to the small animal, as if it could hear her.

"Follow the light, and let it guide you. May your innocence preserve your spirit, as you leave this plain. Thank you for providing for my family, with your life, so that they may live on."

Her words ending as she withdrew the knife, and began to prepare the meal. She did not speak again, and it was as if only she, and the animal were there. Everything else faded away. With skill and a delicate touch, she sliced and cut things to make the most of the small prize. Her eyes glazing over with a golden fire as she worked. Being familiar with every step she took, having done this so many times for her father. Now she had the pleasure to share with her grandmother.

Veil watched the petite, blue mare, as she spotted a small animal digging for food. She held her breath, and watched as Resurrection stalked, then launched herself forward. Veil was besotted to see a mare so small, move the way she did, when she didn't even eat meat. Part of her hadn't believed she had it in her to kill anything. Yet there she was, now laying on her victim. Veil's eyes gleamed as a smile broke on her face. Completely ignoring the fact that they had company not too far off. She continued to watch as Resurrection loomed over the animal, with a gentle air, like a halcyon, calming the winds. Something almost spiritual as she watched. She never knew death could be so delicate. If she had to give her own interpretation of what she saw in Resurrection, she'd compare her to an Angel of Death.

Veil hadn't planned on visiting often, maybe an annual visit to her son. But now she wanted to see more of Resurrection. She had met no one like her before.

User ImagePacha would not run now. She would not, she would not, she would not, no matter how intensely she could feel Belvy shivering against her shoulder.

She took a few steps forward, trying to get a better look at the thing before her. It was a Kalona, for sure, but...

...was that a Unicorn horn? Pacha frowned. That wasn't possible, was it? Unicorns couldn't...breed with Kalona.

Could they?

"Hello?" Pacha called again. "You can come out...if you want? Hello?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Vapor was absorbed elsewhere while his daughter and the mare he knew was his mother, yet was nothing like his mother, did their own thing. He ignored the tang of iron that wafted through the air, normally enough to make him nauseous. He listened as the stranger bid him to come out. He could hear that something was off in her voice, though she tried to sound friendly. It made him grin. Was she afraid? Oh, this would be delightful!

Turning towards her, he couldn't contain his grin, as he walked towards her. Extending and flexing his wings to stretch out. He had pinned them to his side before, hoping it would make her approach. Since she bid him to come to her instead, he went all in for the show. He flexed his wings, and craned his neck up, trying to make himself look large and intimidating. Purposely making his neck pop, so the sound would ricochet towards the white unicorn. Not replying to her words, but simply advancing towards her, slowly.

User ImagePacha forced herself to stand her ground as the Kalona...Uni...thing...made its way out of the forest trees. It was all she could do to keep her mouth from dropping open in naked shock.

He was beautiful, in a deadly, monstrous sort of way; she had never seen a combination of wings, tails, and horns like the ones he possessed, nor a coat of such a vibrant hue. Yes, he was beautiful.

But he was also deadly. This was crystal-clear in Pacha's eyes. She couldn't show her fear - but yes, she was afraid.

"Hello," Pacha said, her voice coming out barely more than a whisper. She shook her mane and straightened up and tried again. "Hello," she repeated, wishing she had wings she could puff up the way he did, or at least more than a quivering mouse familiar on her shoulder. "What is your name?"

Vapor approaches, then lowers his head at her with a stop. Pawing at the grass with one hoof, he glares at her, not answering her question of what his name is. Completely bent on looking scary, if he can manage it. A sinister grin spreads across his face. "How about telling me your tasty name first?" he says as he shows his teeth. A growl rumbles from his throat, that tells of hunger. He licks his teeth, and flicks his tail. A beady gold eye looks at her, imbedded in a completely black void. Nostrils flare as he sniffs, taking in her smell.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Resurrection Sinclair might seem like she didn't notice, but in fact she did see her father wander into the clearing. She is not afraid of what might happen when he reaches the mare that is trying to be friendly to him. Bringing the rabbit she is finished preparing, she walks over to Vapor. Near half his size, if you didn't account for the six wings that added to her bulk and height. She walks up to her father, and delicately lays a cut of meat on the ground in front of him. It is still warm. "Here, eat this and stop trying to pretend you are going to eat her. You're always mean when you're hungry. It's not much. I'll try to find you more, later." she says, blood dripping from her mouth as she looks over at the white unicorn. For a moment, she says nothing more. A long pause as she evaluates the mare before her. There is a tension in the air, as if she is weighing and measuring her very soul. Then she dips her chin to her, and closes her eyes briefly. Trying to show she is not a threat. Deeming her innocent in appearances and what Res feels. "Greetings wanderer. This is Vapor. I am called Resurrection. Resurrection Sinclair." she does not mention the name of the other with them, as she is back in the woods, eating the rest of the rabbit. Resurrection cleanly cut off a piece of the rabbit that her father would eat, without having to worry about too much blood. An aversion of his, is blood after all.
