Liam wanted to go on a great adventure while he had the chance. He had snuck away from his "mom" while she was busy with the other foals. He was thankful for her taking him in like the others but he wanted to play. As he was the oldest of the bunch, he was tasked with helping her with the younger ones. A lot of the time he didn't mind it but today he was hungry for adventure. He wanted to explore the area around them and beyond. He didn't like being stuck to one spot but traveling with the littles would be a challenge to say the least. His icy blues looked behind him as he tried to quickly but silently slip farther away from the group. Once he thought he was out of range for them to hear him, he took off at a full speed gallop. He raced through the trees of the thick woods to break out into the open field. The warmth of the sun greeted him as he slowed down to enjoy it and the open area. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath to enjoy the smell of the scattered flowers. The floral scent was faint but he could still smell it. His heart felt as if it was going to burst with the high level of happiness he was feeling. He looked around as he considered where to go from here. He had a few hours before he probably needed to head back. He didn't want her to be overwhelmed by the littles.

Almost a hour, a hour of being stuck hiding low amongst the spring collection of violets, tulips and little white crocus hiding his body amongst its colourful array. He could see the figure which made his skin crawl in the distance to the path he would take home, a tall figure who had elongated ears like a rabbit. While this wasn't normally something to be alarmed with he knew from his father's research that sometimes beings with other animal features could be shifters. Not all were ones to maim and hunt - as his older brother wasn't a shifter but did have to eat meat who had canine like features; he knew that well. Yet there was something about the emergence of creatures who would normally not be carnivorous like a Rabbit shifter he heard tales of which made him shudder, because what would drive an otherwise herbaceous creature to crave flesh?
It wasn't going to be his flesh if he could help it today.
When noises came from behind him he turned his head slow as could be, spotting another small body come bounding into the meadow. His heart sunk as Teo was looking at another colt! Did he not see the danger lurking ahead! His eyes closed tightly as fear made his body shake, his father would know how to deal with it, he would have tried everything to save this soul with his wisdom and his grace. He knew he couldn't face his father if he came home with a tale of seeing a young life snuffed out so when the stallion ahead turned to look away he shot out of the grass and charged; galloping over and without a word bowled over the other youth till they both hit the grass. "Shhh!" He hissed out quitely, his snout pressed over the side of his face to keep him down. "There's a shifter near! He'll attack if he sees us!" His limbs were shaking, but not from the exertion as he moved only a bit to make sure this colt wasn't going to do something they'd both regret. "Can you see? Over there by the trees..."

He had been minding his business with his mind lost in thought until something crashed into him. In the blink of an eye, the world was turned at a weird angle and someone was talking to him. He wanted to shake his head to try and regain some focus and clarity but was pinned down. He didn't move his body but let his eyes look around carefully. The position that he was currently in, he couldn't figure out anything about what hit him but did see something in the distance. He wasn't going to admit that he hadn't heard what was spoken to him. He didn't want to be embarrassed so he only made a low grunt. He did see something else in the area and hoped that was what this entire situation was about. He wanted to shift so he could get a look at the one on top of him but he decided it probably best to remain still.

A grunt filled his ears as he slowly brought his head up, making sure the other wasn't going to yell out before he ever so slowly untangled his limbs. Laying beside the fellow colt Teo took a steadying breath, his ears still flush with his two toned mane as he peered out beyond to the large figure. "My father told me of an uprise in shifters...thats why you see ears like that." He whispered just below his breath, "I know it looks like a bunny but there has been reports of normally herbaceaous creatures becoming killers. That could be one of them!" Urgency in his voice gave away everything as he finally took in the other colt. His hair was also two colours like his, but where he had spots the other had stripes...wait was that a tail?
"Hello?" A voice called out that made Teo duck further, it seemed the stallion beyond the clearing had heard something as he looked over towards them but they were still hidden. "I don't remember the name he told me...but it *was* a rabbit, I know that for sure. I've been stuck here for over a hour now as thats the way back to my herd..."

He was finally able to lay eyes on the other and he was surprised by it being another like himself. It was a colt much like himself in age or so it appeared by his size. He heard the words being spoken but they didn't fully register. Shifters and uprise? He was trying to understand if there was a war with the shifters when the next words made him freeze. He wasn't able to go home because of whatever was blocking the way. Did this mean it had visited the herd first? He didn't want that to be the case but he also didn't know what else laid upon the path. "Hmm.." He used it to let the other know that he was busy thinking. He was fast on his feet but would he be fast enough? He didn't really know the layout here to lose it before going back. "Is there any way to lose it here? Make him chase but get lost?" He had moved his attention back to the figure in the distance.

"I don't know...Rabbits are notoriously quick and agile, so I don't know what kind of speed he would inherit with those genes..." Teo caught himself and found his cheeks getting warm. "Sorry...My father has spend his life in research. My older brother also hunts rabbits who aren't spirited and he always says they give him a workout." His whispers were low, but at the offer to possibly lose it with speed Teo swallowed hard. "I don't think so...I'm not a particularly fast runner..." Since out of all the activities he usually was walking at his mother's pace around the herd lands, helping her by carrying a basket or enjoying his other siblings findings cuddled under a shady tree in baited anticipation of their travels.
Boy had he wished he had some of the prowess of Darius.
"You came from back that way didn't you?" He said softly, his soft golden eyes warm like a summer's sunset. "I'm sure if you stayed low you could make it home without alerting him."

He didn't even think to hide the look he was giving him as he talked about the genes rabbits have. It wasn't his intention to make him embarrassed or flustered. He quickly looked away from the other colt as a smile formed. He was in careful consideration of what he could do when new words registered. "Don't be silly. I'm getting you home first." He didn't even hesitate to make the declaration. He was going to make sure that he could return home safe and sound. It was no different to him than one of the littles needing defending and saved. He hated to admit he lacked in strength but he made up for it with his speed, at least in his mind. "I will make sure you get back without a scratch." He gave a somewhat shy smile because he didn't want him to think he was being egotistical but more determined to see it through. He realized how he sounded and thought it best to clear it up. "I'm nothing special but my determination sees me through a lot of things."

Teo didn't bother to hide the surprise which flitted across his facial features, doe wide eyes watching this other colt take such a..brave stance. He was going to help him get home? Past that stallion? While his family had many stories of acts of heroism, it wasn't like they had gone looking for fame. It just so happened they were in the right place when someone needed help - just like this colt had offered to him.
"I don't think that at all. I think you're very special for wanting to help someone you dont even know." He said with all earnesty, his tail flicking behind him to convey his excited nature. "However that shouldn't be the case. I'm Teo'xihuitl, but everyone just calls me Teo." He smiled, his head lopping to the side with a dazzling grin which fell into shadow a moment later as a tan figure was standing but a few feet away. "Oh - Hello Teo." The stallion had overheard, gazing between the two colts. Teo let out a shriek of a whinny, trying to take off and push his newfound companion out of the way but slipped on the soft ground and fell on his side. "R-Run!" "Run..?" The stallions long ears swirved this way and that as he looked. "F-from what?"

A horrible mistake was made, he had taken his attention off the potential danger. The said danger was now in their immediate space and his heart started to race in response. "From you!" He growled as he sprang to his feet and dug his hooves into the ground. He used all of his strength to dig up the earth and kick it into the stallions face. "Move teo!" Hs barked out the demand as he nudged him to his feet and ushered him to his home. He turned around and charged at the large stallion with the strange ears. He had no experience with shifters but wasn't going to stand around and wait for the shift. He halted at the last second when he saw a bunny appear next to the hooves of the adult. He swallowed hard and charged at the bunny with determination. He wasn't going to let them chase after his new friend. "I'm Liam! Ill see you soon Teo!" He called out the words as he glanced briefly to make sure his friend was going home. He weaved between the feet of the stallion trying to trip it up. The stallion was trying to clear the dirt from its face. Its weird head shaking and he stomped around in surprise of not being able to see. "I dont understand!" It had cried out in confusion and turned this way and that in response to the voices and noises around him.

Teo didn't have to be told twice, the nudge from his friend giving him just enough traction to get on his hooves as he tore around the stallion to where he had been and the direction of home. Yet as his head turned to look back Liam wasn't running back to his family - no, he was staying and trying to keep the stallion from coming after him! "Li-oof!" Teo thudded and nearly crumpled against a solid frame as he wobbled and looked up.
"What's....going on?" Subira said slowly, trying to understand what was happening beyond her younger brother to the other little colt running and kicking up a dust storm around a stallion and a familiar. "Big sister! Help! We found a shifter!" Subira looked back over and felt a smile creep over her face. "Teo darling, thats not a shifter. Look, there is no pelt on his back." "But- but Dad's story-" "If I recall that shifter was white, rabbit in nature *and* is named Sans Merci. You also remember to look for any jewels to show they're charmed?" "....No....." Teo said slowly, following as his large sister headed over to the commotion with a calm confidence.
"Hold on, young one." Subira moved to block the way of Liam when he was rounding to come back under the poor stallion, looking up. "The boys here seem to have gotten the idea that you're a shifter..." The stallion coughed, the dust finally dissipating but looked up in surprise. "Shifter? Heavens no...I...I'm horribly lost with my friend here." He nodded down to the rabbit who looked like it was ready to bolt. "I got a little turned around from my colony...and I was waiting to see if anyone was going to pass by but saw them..." His head turned, one ear lopping to the side. "I suppose it was unwise to approach foals..." Subira smiled. "Merely a poor timing as my brother had just had the talk about shifters from my overzealous father. Teo?" She turned her head to give him almost a mothering look. Teo's head fell as he shuffled a hoof. "I'm sorry mister...Liam was just trying to protect me too." He looked over, while he couldn't have been brave like Liam had, the least he could do was take the blame for this. Subira nodded, turning back to look at the stallion. "I could give you directions, where was it you were heading?"

It felt as if his heart was gonna beat right out of his body. He heard a softer voice at the same time as large colorful legs appeared in front of him. He smacked into them even though he tried to stop it from happening. He looked up to see a colorful mare and he knew it had to be someone from Teo's family. The resemblance was to strong to be any different. He struggled to hear their words over his own heart beat. He chose to stay close to the mare's legs until he could figure out the change in situation. He took a few deep breathes and tried to get his heart to slow. He continued to observe with silence. He watched Teo interact with the mare and the mare with the supposed shifter. He narrowed his eyes as if that would allow him to see things differently. "Um, what's happening? I can't hear anything over my own heart beating in my ears..."The thing was still racing and didn't seem to be slowing at all. It was echoing in his ears though he wished it wouldn't. He wasn't alarmed that he could hear his heart, he imagined it was from the adrenaline. He looked at them all as he remained next to the mare and Teo.

"I was trying to head down to the lowland meadows...have you heard of them?" "I believe so, there is a huge expanse of field a few hours walk from here. I'd be happy to escort you." Subira smiled, "I've walked these trails many times." "Oh i'd be so happy if you could! Thank you!" The stallion nodded to the bunny, the little familiar hopping onto his back as he spared a glance back to the colts. "I'm so sorry for scaring you." He began walking, as Subira looked back to the two. "Teo, you should start heading home. Mother is worried." Then the two adults were gone, heading down into the forest.
Teo looked over to Liam worriedly, he was breathing so hard! He turned and moved his head to rest his ear over his chest; the thudding audible even to him. "You're coming down from adrenalin...here." Teo moved once again and draped his neck over Liam's back, using some of his body weight to hopefully calm him. "You're okay, Liam. You were so awesome back there.."

He was starting to calm down until the other foal started to touch him. It made his heart race from the closeness. He suddenly became shy and couldn't form words. "Um thank you. I just did it so you could get home.." He said the thank you sheepishly but the rest of what he spoke was done earnestly. The way that Teo spoke to him had him feeling something he didn't understand. "Um can I give you something?" He pulled away from Teo and then bowed his head without waiting for a response. He gently pulled free one of the bracelets from his front left leg. He held his head up with it hanging from his mouth. He nodded his head as to try and get Teo to understand to take it. He waited with his eyes shining with joy. He wanted his new friend to be able to look at the bracelet and remember him and the day they met.

Teo gasped, his eyes wide as he watched Liam take off one of his bracelets and offer it to him. "A-are you sure...?" He asked hesitantly, knowing often things like that were sentimental. He was, though, so Teo leaned in and took the bracelet, lowering his own head and slid his hoof through as he gave a little pull to the string to tighten it. "Thank you!" He beamed, it was almost like they had the same now - a token of friendship!
Teo didn't have jewelry though, not until he was grown anyways. However as he looked down to his pink bandana the Amachi's had given him when he was born he used his leg to brush his head against it to work the bandana from around his neck. Thankfully the racoons his father worked with were great at tying it tightly but he held it out in his own mouth and reared back to slide it on his head and affix it around his neck. "There. Now you're colourful too like me!" He stood back and admired a moment. "Pink looks really good on you, Liam." He remembered his sister's warning and felt a rush of urgency. "Listen I gotta go, i've been gone too long. Lets play sometime, okay?" He gave him a nuzzle to his cheek and with a little whinny he yelled 'Bye!' As he ran home on the now free path; little did he know this would be the last time he would run into Liam. [/colour]
