Splendida was being harassed. These pesky little fish were darting all throughout the coral she called home, not letting her sleep, not letting her eat them, not letting her play with them, even - so she had given chase, trying to make it absolutely clear that these darn kids should get off her lawn already, or something, as she had no idea what a 'lawn' was, as she lived underwater.
She chased them rather further away than she meant to, though, and all of a sudden she was near the shore, grumbling as they darted back into deeper water - but in the opposite direction of her home, at least, so maybe they had gotten the message after all.
"And don't you forget it!" Splendida called after them, splashing a fin in the water emphatically. "Tell your friends, too! This reef is off limits!" She let out a huff of frustrated air and looked around; she didn't usually get this close to shore, because, to be frank, what was there on land that she could care enough for to make the trip? But since she was here already...
Splendida glanced up at the sun and swam a little closer to shore, though still remaining mostly underneath the comforting lap of the water; just close enough to rest her body in the warm sand and glance curiously around. It seemed to be a fairly quiet day up here - a refreshing change of pace from the disruptive morning she'd had so far. Perhaps she could afford to spend a little time relaxing up here...

(nOT ME INTERNALLY WHEEZING AT UNDERWATER LAWN)
Quiet days were both the best...and the absolutelt worst.
The best because Sadiki didn't have to do anything. He could choose where he wanted to go, who he wanted to be around, and what he wanted to do. No needing to make plans with others who would probably flake on said plans, no worrying about what to have to eat because the world was his oyster. Literally, in this case, as he'd wandered down to the beach. The feel of sand under his hooves was pleasant in the surf.
The worst because...He couldn't escape his inner monologue. Constantly trying to push back memories of mistakes he'd made throughout his life, starting with his family. The loss of both mates and children plagued him nearly daily, and it was only when he was being coerced into doing something other than stewing in his own guilt that he could ignore them. His own mind was like the sand that suck to his fur- Rough, coarse, sticking everywhere irritatingly.
Warm sun, cool waves, and a basketfull of oysters he'd dug up made for a relaxing, quiet moment where he was simply lying in the sand just enough to be wet and warm at the same time. It was bliss, as the sounds of the world around him were enough to quell his raging thoughts.
At least, until he heard the commotion.
Seathi were a species he'd only heard of up til now, as he never really ventured into the ocean deep enough to encounter them, and for all he knew, they rarely swam close enough to shore for land-dwellers like himself to see them.
"...Huh." Was all he said, staring at the stranger for now, hoping he wasn't about to get his kneecaps gnawed off by a Seathi-rana. (That is, a piranha-like seathi.) He'd heard tales, but wasn't about to run in fear from a simple story.

Splendida jumped at the noise; she'd been so caught up in her own irritation and trouble that she had somehow failed to notice the entire, huge, hulking land-dweller of a Soquili, who seemed to be enjoying her beach. 'Her' beach was perhaps an exaggeration, given that normally she didn't go so close to any beach at all, but Splendida was of the mind that she owned pretty much anything she decided was hers, and at that exact moment, that beach fell into exactly that category.
"Huh right back," she said, perhaps a bit more huffily than she meant, or would have said under different, less-annoying circumstances. She surveyed him critically - he looked older than she was, but then again, maybe that was just from being a land-dweller who couldn't escape from the bright sun the way she could.
She didn't want to swim any closer, but she couldn't exactly just swim away, either, lest he think he had frightened her away - she was the one who lived here, and he was just... an interloper, at best!
Splendida spotted the basket at his side and raised her eyebrows; she knew what the oysters in his basket were, but she couldn't imagine what a land-dweller would want with them. She lived far too deep under the water to realize that oysters were even edible, so to her, it was essentially that this Soquili had collected a pile of rocks to take them home - wherever home was for him, anyway.
"What are you planning to do with those oysters?"
