Quote: For this prompt you'll RNG 1-3 to determine how happy/willing the Cactus Cat is to be around you. This is for the prompt only. Once obtained, it can act however you'd like. You'll write 250 words (more is fine if you want, but the blurb must be finished) about how you find, obtain, receive (etc) the Cactus Cat. If you roll a 1: The cat is somewhere between in love with you to very much approves of you. If you roll a 2: The cat is somewhere between complacent to mostly tolerable to you. If you roll a 3: The cat is somewhere between "touchy" about you to outright grouchy or even distrustful. In the time it had taken for Sanyue to make her way through the deserts sands of the Gigage Awoyeni towards the deep Oasis the sun had already began to settle in for the night. Long shadows cast their reach across the lands, shrouding whatever they touched in darkness. While the sands were still warm under her talons, the light wind was cool against her body. It was a comfortable, companionable silence between her and the world. Time and time again she would find herself within the trees and foliage of the oasis. It brought a sense of calm within the chaos, and helped Sanyue relax and recenter herself.
Finishing her gliding steps, she touched down firmly on grass, taking her place under a large tree next to the water. A deep breath escaped her, closing her eyes, and a small smile stretched across her beak. As her body cooled so did her mind, allowing her to wander through the internal musings, even the fleeting ones. However, this evening was going to be different. A low growl alerted her that she was not alone. Sanyue’s eyes opened and looked around. Another growl coming not too far behind her. In fact, it was right behind her. Startled, she whirled around from her spot to find a small green spiked cat huddled inside the tree she was under.
“Oh…” she blinked, “hello little one. I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there.”
The cat growled and hissed once more, backing further into its nest, it’s eyes wide and staring straight at her. It’s tail swishing erratically.
“I’m not going to hurt you little one, I’m sorry I blocked out the entry to your home,” Sanyue spoke once more.
The cat continued to growl but did not move to hide itself more, and Sanyue wasn’t about to push them any further. So, she moved herself just out of the way to be at a respectful distance, still within the eyesight of the cat, but not enough to where it would continue to feel threatened. After a time, Sanyue began to hum a low tune, pulling off a prickly pear from a nearby cactus and putting it in front of the cat’s home. A peace offering she hoped. While the cat still didn’t come out of its den, it did stop growling, continuing to stare at her as she watched the water and continued to relax.
The sun finally finished dipping below the horizon, encasing the world into soft darkness, crickets beginning to chirp. With a sigh, Sanyue contemplated heading back towards town, but she wasn’t entirely confident that she had the energy. For this, she decided to rest at the oasis that night. She was safe and sound. As she lay down and began to settle in, she heard a soft rustling. Lifting her head she turned and saw the spiked cat out of their den, and a smaller kitten, a splitting image of the adult, next to her. Sanyue smiled once more at the pair and rolled another prickly pear towards them gently.
“Good night little ones. May the spirits guide you well,” and with that, she dozed off once more.
---
The next morning when she awoke she didn’t see the two cats, and so she assumed they had left to go about their lives. Content with everything, and ready to go, Sanyue turned and made her way back into the sands. While the sun was up, the air was still cool enough to not overheat her body. She didn’t get far, however, before something bumped her back leg. When she looked down, the kitten she had seen the prior night was standing next to her, it’s tail making waves within the sandy ground.
“Hello again,” she spoke to it and the kitten tilted its head to the side curiously, and when Sanyue moved to continue walking, it was not far behind her.
“You want to come with me?”
The kitten’s eyes narrowed and it almost looked like it was smiling as it did so. A chuckle escaped her muzzle. And when she looked up, the adult cat was just a few paces behind, staring at both of them. No growling or hissing, but it certainly hadn’t warmed up to her entirely. If that was the case Sanyue doubted it would allow its child near her.
“You’re welcome to come too if you’d like. I’d never keep you away from your young. The company would be nice.”
The adult cat huffed under its breath, and when Sanyue decided to continue walking, the kitten was almost under foot. The adult cat, not far behind. And it was that day, Sanyue ended up a part of the cat distribution system.

Quote: You've gone treasure hunting in the vast desert. When you find a buried entrance, you can't believe your luck. However, when you go in, the door slams shut. Write a minimum of 250 words about what happens next. If you roll a 1: You are surrounded by scorpions. How do you escape? If you roll a 2: You come face to face with a scorpion the size of a small horse (sorry if you're usidia!). What do you do to outrun it (because there's no way you can fight it)? If you roll a 3: You have been bitten by a scorpion. Your body is starting to slow and go numb. There's a shining crystal vial on a pedestal across the room. It must be the antidote! How do you get there as your limbs start dragging? Do you make it in time? It had been one of the few instances in which Urdr found herself traveling outside of her family’s home, without her sister no less, in the blaring heat of the sun. How she had ended up in the desert wasn’t worth talking about. It really didn’t matter if she was going to be quite frank. But long story short, she had wanted to get some new poisons for her and her sister’s collection. Sure they already had a vast collection of potions, pastes, among other things, many of which were to be of help for her family. However, having some…additional support through poisons, especially various kinds that can be used in multiple different ways, was also helpful. Not only could her and her sister creation antidotes, but also mix together concoctions that would put even the biggest and most dangerous soquili into a death spiral.
Urdr hadn’t anticipated traveling this far out into the kawani lands, let alone a desert. That didn’t stop her though. She was a mare on a mission, and she wasn’t going to let her sister, or her family down. As such she found herself at the precipice of a buried entrance to some sort of cavern. Skittering bugs of all kinds were coming out of the mouth and traveling in various directions. Urdr knew that there were insects, especially spiders of the poisonous type she’d collected in the past, there were other insects she could collect. So, she made her way inside, careful to not step on anything as she did so. Her familiar, Shadow, curled up protectively around her neck.
However, she hadn’t anticipated a door slamming behind her, heavy and wooden as a loud bang reverberated around the cavern she found herself in. Nor had she anticipated being surrounded by scorpions, a mix of black and glowing blue skittering quickly around her legs. This was….less than ideal. The good news was she wasn’t alone. Shadow had better eyesight than her, and he quickly detached himself from around her neck and carefully began to slither between the copious amount of Arachnids. Some reared back in surprise and threatened Shadow with their stingers, others quickly ran away to hide.
“Do you see the way out of here, Shadow,” Urdr asked staying as still as possible as some of the scorpions climbed over her hooves.
“There’s a lever on the far wall. It’s covered in spider webs but that shouldn’t stop me from pulling it,” was his only response as he began to climb up multiple boulders to get to the dimly lit bridge not too far away from them. A single ray of light from the cracks above them providing guidance.
In the meantime, Urdr began to take note of which scorpions seemed to be the least hostile or scared of her, many of them looking to fit the bill. While Urdr desire was to collect them, she wasn’t going to kill them after. If she could keep some alive, her and her sister could collect their venom multiple times over the course of their lifetime. Meaning she wouldn’t need to come back here for quite some time, if at all. So, she carefully encouraged the more tame scorpions towards the containers her and her sister had made before this little adventure, getting multiple of them captured successfully. Shadow, on the other hand, after fending off some spiders, had successfully made it across the bridge and had wrapped himself around the lever and pulled.
“Good to go?” he called out to his partner.
“Indeed, let’s make our way back home. My sisters will be ecstatic at the success we’ve had today.”
With a flourishing of his body, Shadow pulled the lever down, and the door began to creak back open, allowing additional sunlight to beam into the cavern. The scorpions that had surrounded Urdr began to scatter and allow her to make her way back outside. While some still threatened her with their tails, none stung her and reared back into the shadows to avoid the warmth of the sun’s rays. Shadow was not far behind her, quickly climbing back up to settle around her neck for the trek back once they were outside. She shook her head to remove the grains of sand that had made it into her braid. Ensuring her new little friends were safe in their containers and out of direct sunlight on the opposite side of her body, Urdr was more than ready.
“Who wants to bet Þyrnirós is going to be at my heels within seconds of being home and seeing the glowing blue scorpions.”
“That’s if Skuld doesn’t get to you first.”
All Urdr could do was chuckle as she made her way through the sands in the direction of home. So many fun potions to make, so little time.
