If you roll a 3: The cat is somewhere between "touchy" about you to outright grouchy or even distrustful.
The sun shone brightly through the bare tree limbs, and the leaves that once hung on the branches crunched under Trixie's paws as she padded along the trail, going back towards the den she now shared with her mate. Ahriman was a gift that she had not been looking for, but she thanked the gods for it every day. The bobcat hummed to herself around the grouse in her mouth as she traveled, it had been her turn to hunt. While Ahriman was prone to bringing in hares and once even a gazelle foal, Trixie liked treating her mate to fresh fowl when she was lucky enough to come across them living here at the edge of the desert as they did. Which, speaking of, maybe she could talk him into moving deeper into the sands as the weather cooled, find somewhere hotter for the...
Abruptly her ears perked as she heard a faint yowl coming from a cluster of cacti. The bobcat waited a moment to see if the cry came again before shaking her head. Must have been hearing things! Maybe she was just...Wait! There it was again! Trixie was sure this time she was hearing the cry of a kit. Dropping her kill, she took off running towards the cacti calling out, "I'm coming! Keep calling little one!"
Of course that seemed to have the opposite effect as the call went silent, but as Trixie got closer she was able to pick up an unusual scent that hung in the air. Feline, yet..not.
Her flame-tipped ears flicked as she began scenting about, careful of the sharp thorns, "Kit? Let me know where you are. I'm here to help you!" Mentally Trixie tried to prepare herself for anything but she had to admit a tiny cub that seemed to be a living cactus was
not what she expected. Much less when the little thing puffed up, whipping it's thorny tail as it spit and hissed at her warningly.
"Whoa now, easy little bit!" Hastily taking a few steps back to keep from crowding the little cat, Trixie flattened herself to the warm ground trying to seem less threatening. Still, the little cat growled at her, never taking bright eyes off the larger predator.
Flicking an ear again, Trixie studied the smaller feline a worried feeling in her growing. However this strange little thing came into being, it was young and from the thinness likely didn't know how to care for itself. Getting up, which provoked another show of hissing, spitting, and snarling, she moved back to where she had dropped the grouse earlier. Snatching it up, she hurried back to the cluster. Braving the thrones (and little claws), Trixie dropped the bird in front of the little cactus cat. "here darlin', you eat up. I can catch more for that goofy wolf of mine anytime."
Thankfully the little cat's distrust wasn't stronger than it's hunger and Trixie had barely stepped back before the offered bird was pounced upon feathers flying as the little cactus cat tore into it's meal.
Trixie chuckled her amusement before nodding to herself, sure of her good deed for the day. Turning away, she started back towards the path that would lead her home. She hadn't gone very far when she heard an odd mrrph behind her. Pausing to look over her shoulder, Trixie couldn't hide her surprise to see the little cat, jaws still clamped around one torn-off wing, trotting determinedly after her. Chuckling faintly, Trixie decided to wait for the little one to catch up with her, "Going home with me hmm?"
The little cat huffed at her around the wing in it's mouth, stalking past with a haughty look as if to say,
'What are you waiting on peasant?'"Oh pardon me there your majesty!"
Well, Ahriman
had been making noises lately about it would be nice to have a little one around...
