The queen looked to the two and shrugged to the other but wouldn't answer him. He was human and she didn't deal with the race. The one before her was curious. She held the shard still for them to see almost taunting like. "And why would I give you this shard? I rather like it and feel a desire to keep it. And since it fell in my realm I can only imagine it was a gift from the fire Gods to rise to the glory we once were. I wouldn't expect a halfling like you to truly understand. Especially where you're trying to appeal to me by begging. Wise, but foolish as true fire-witches would never resort to such." She could see the girl growing angry in her expression, but also caught the glance towards the other. She understood the human need to protect possibly another and knew that look, even though it detested her. She leaned back on her thrown playing with the shard in her hand. "Hmm, I'll tell you what. Prove to me you're not just half wit, half fire-witch and I may just be kind and give it to you." Her eyes would flash a bit of fire behind them wondering if the girl would go for the bait. After all, she had been board and wanted something to entertain her.

Gee, what wonderful manners she has. Virgil thought sarcastically. He would have loved nothing more than to beat the living hell out of something, but he decided against it, figuring Karma would get them sooner or later.

She wanted to yell back and let her anger rise. She almost did listening to the tone of the Queen as if she were some reluctant stepchild. She looked to Virgil a moment but remembered this place could turn him to ashes if they really felt the need or want to. She would count in her head trying anything to calm down, even as the queen threw her insults at her. "We got lucky catching bone man off guard while he was attacking them. She supplied for him, then turned back tot he queen weighing her options. She couldn't get it by force, they'd give a good fight she was sure, but given the lava not too far away she wouldn't chance it. "What do you want me to do to get that shard?"

She smiled smugly looking to her new pet. "Three challenges you have to pass. If you can pass them, you can have the shard." She stood clapping her hands lightly and watched as a table was brought in and prepared with food and drink. "If you can stand the heat, I'll have you both stay in a guest room. In the morning will begin your challenges. For now, eat and rest. You're going to need it halfling." She smiled again before turning to leave the throne room. Now was the time for plots. What could she have the girl do no halfling could. Oh this would be fun.

The excitement slowly faded from Kisuke's eyes as the doom prophecising lycanthrope seemed to be out cold again. A small sigh escaped his lips as he laid back down on the soft ground underneath him and once again gazed toward the sky. A blue flicker of light in the corner of his eye quickly got his attention and Kisuke turned his head watching Thayne work his magic. So, now I know how he fits into this group. He thought to himself watching intently with new found interest.

Once it was all over and Kisuke's intrigue had been sated his eyes wandered the camp again. Umu was looking at the bird she had caught seemingly unsure of what to do with it now. He sat up looking at the girl a little surprised that even though she had caught the bird in record time she didn't know how to prepare it for cooking. "Umu? Would you like some help with that?" He offered. Being as he was a wanderer he had learned very quickly how to hunt and prepare meals, this was something he would be willing to pass on.

Greyscar sat up, a bit drowsy. "Uhg, my head..." He mumbled as he got upa nd walked over to the fire. He sat down and began to stare into it. A vision of the others began to fill into the flames. "They beat the skeletal mage I guess..." He said as he continued to watch them.

Umu jumped slightly as she heard Kisuke's voice, a tiny gasp escaping her. She had been so wrapped up in trying to puzzle out what to do with this bird that she hadn't noticed him sit up. Looking up at him she nodded "Yes please...I'm not really used to cooking I suppose" she murmured softly. Her cheeks heated slightly with embarrassment. She was very used to being on her own so there were a few things about caring for others she didn't really know about.

She leaned over and handed the bird to him, watching intently so that she might know for the next time. Sitting with her feet under her she shifted her weight back and forth "Sorry to make you have to do this after your escape...but I really appreciate it" she added gently. She wondered what he had done to warrant having to flee. He had said he wasn't a criminal so it made her wonder the cause. However it wasn't her place to ask so she didn't. She jumped again slightly when Greyscar sat up and plopped down by the fire. She seemed a touch nervous now that he was there a sigh forcing past her lips. It wasn't that she didn't like him it was just...she sighed again and shook her head. Refocusing her attention to Kisuke she watched to learn what to do with large fowl to prep them for eating.

Kisuke smiled then took hold of the bird and slowly began to pluck it. He noticed Greyscar sit himself down next to the fire staring at it intently as he spoke seemingly to himself, Kisuke hadn't heard exactly what Greyscar had said though. He looked back to Umu hearing her apologise had made him smile again. "It's fine, this is one of the few things I can do well." The young man said making sure Umu could see how he was plucking the bird. After a few minutes the bird was completely bald and now it was time for the gory part. "If you have a weak stomach you may not want to watch what comes next." He warned the girl just to be on the safe side.

The bird was now prepared and ready to be cooked and even skewered with a stick as a makeshift spit, Kisuke handed it to Umu. "And that's how you fully prep a turkey." He said Hopeful that she had been able to learn the basics of bird preparation. "Now all you need to do is cook it." He stopped for a moment realising how obvious that last part was. Kisuke hadn't seemed to get any turkey blood on his clothes throughout the preparation but the same couldn't be said for his hands. He looked at his hands as if hoping that they would clean themselves. I'm going to need to go wash these somewhere... He remembered he had a bottle of water hanging from his belt and decided to use that for cleaning himself up.

Umu watched intently as Kisuke pulled the feathers from the bird and removed the insides. Blinking she took the finished bird from him with a nod. She watched as he looked at his now bloodied hands, looking like he wished they weren't. "There's a small stream not too far from here if you need to wash up" she said pointing to the area of the stream with her free hand.

Then taking the bird with both hands she hoisted it over the fire. Holding a hand out over the ground a small green glow appeared before disappearing leaving behind a small herb patch. She took a few herbs and spices and seasoned the bird with them before leaving it be. The herbs vanishing once she was done with them. Heaving a sigh she sat back, turning the food on their spits every now and again. Mostly however she got lost in her thoughts as she stared into the fire. Could they really succeed in this venture? What was she doing here other than awkwardly hanging about? She sighed again and leaned back to look up at the sky mostly obscured by the trees. It sure had been a strange couple of days.

Kisuke's gaze followed Umu's finger towards an area just a short way from the camp. He nodded a quick thanks and started to wander off in the direction indicated to him. Sticks and twigs cracked under his feet as he walked, it was louder then he had expected. This was the point where he realised that there was very few animals or even birds around, it seemed eerily quiet. Maybe there's a storm coming. He thought as he slumped down by the stream. Placing his hand into the cool water he began to rub them together making sure to get all the blood off his hands. Once all traces of the red liquid had left his hands Kisuke sat idly beside the stream humming a tune to himself while watching a large blue furred bear-like creature escorting it's cubs away from the stream and back into the forest.

Kisuke looked round to be sure he was alone, feeling that he was he raised his right hand into the air. The black smoky magic flowed out of his palm, waving it trough the air slowly he watched as it dissipated into nothingness. With a sudden clench of his fist the magic completely vanished from his hand in a small cloud. He looked at the fist and caught himself thinking about his parents. The man shook his head and slowly wandered back towards the camp.

Stretching Umu yawned before starting to remove some of the food items from the fire. Most of the smaller things were done cooking and they could start to eat them. As she removed them from their spits and placed them on the large leaves she had laid out she noticed how quiet the forest was. Given yesterdays events she figured it wasn't unnatural but it was still a bit odd. Once she was done laying out the food save for the turkey she stood and dusted off her dress.

Walking over to the large tree injured by the skeletal man yesterday she rested her cheek against the rough park. Her slender arms wrapped in what would be a hug if she were able to reach around the massive trunk. Connecting to her magic and to the tree she began to glow softly. After talking to it for a short while she realized that the forest was afraid. Afraid of that skeletal mage but also afraid of what was to come. The animals the plants and even the rocks and soil were collectively holding their breath as if waiting for the storm to pass them by. She sighed and slowly returned herself to world around her, slowly closing her connection to the tree and her magic. She returned to the fire and turned the large bird over the fire again. Sighing again she tucked her legs up to her chest and rested her knees atop them. How would things turn out? Could they accomplish the task they were given?

She had waited till the queen left before moving to the table. Her stomach had given a growl reminding her how hungry she had actually gotten. She sat down fixing a plate though was weary of the kindness of the Queen. Her mother's half was not normally this jovial around others, and sometimes even worse half-bloods like herself. She knew the challenges would be chosen based on that fact alone. She would look to Virgil noting his silence and sighed. "I appreciated the quiet when she was talking but, it's just us now. The cider here is cool, should help you with the heat, I can see you starting to drip there." She wasn't sure about her companion yet. He was quiet and though stated he was a fighter, hadn't seen much of those skills in use, despite the situation when they arrived.

"Yeah, I thought it would be a good idea to keep my smartass comments to myself in favor of not getting burned alive." Virgil said as he happily accepted the cider. "I'm more worried about those challenges, if you don't come through, we're going to have to to steal the crystal and haul tail out of here." Virgil said and sighed, he wasn't planning on leaving empty handed, and he didn't want that crystal to fall into Bonehead's cold, undead grasp.

"Honestly, it's safer here then anywhere else, assuming we didn't actually kill that weird thing. I'm going to assume not since it was too easy to get him." She ate a bit passing food now and then for him as well. The challenges made her nervous. She wouldn't admit it, but knew they would be chosen specifically so she couldn't pass them. "I wouldn't try stealing the shard. Not with just the two of us. I may be immune to fire, but that doesn't mean you are. We're in a volcano temple city where fire is choice. My mother told me rumors of creatures that can control earth also lurking under the fire-witch rule, so I'm not willing to risk that." She was silent while they would eat but look around as she had. When they were finished she was still silent wondering how she'd be tested and how she could keep him safe, relatively, in the off chance she did pass the challenges.

"The I guess if we fail Bonehead can just come back, take the crystal and we try and snag it from him." Virgil said, taking the food and eating. He hoped Olivia would make it through the challenges, but he couldn't help but try and come up[ with a Plan B.
