"I believe you misheard me," the Kazekage stated. "If you're in the Exams, then go. If you aren't, then stay and learn all you can. It's that simple." She took a sip of her tea, then stated succinctly: "One emergency situation does not a Jounin make."
It would likely be a controversial decision, at least among the people in the room, but that was her ruling on the matter. She had not, in fact, been planning on an escort to the Exams; back in the day, people just went on their own. That had been part of the test: to go and come back alive. Perhaps this new arrival--this old face--would make a good escort.
A brigade of pens would unlatch the window Al had knocked on, then skitter back to the corners of the room. At long last he had returned from whatever he had been doing and would be able to help out again. She would address him in a bit, though, after Knives' complaints had been ironed out.
Wait, wasn't Shiroi a higher rank?
The thought came from nowhere, but she disregarded it. There was no way she had made a mistake, and even if she had, the girl would certainly correct her. She needed stronger tea. |

It took nearly all of Alvard's professional training to prevent himself from chuckling loudly at the situation. He knew she'd been interested in his summons, and he finally had someone to share the joys of the hares with. Beneath his mask he turned towards Bast's indication, and slowly he nodded his head. It was certainly interesting that Shiroi didn't remember his distinct abilities, but then again it was during a strenuous mission. She'd certainly recognized his prescence, at least. A capable sensor, and talented student, he judged her worthy of receiving the summoning contract. No to mention, over the past year his communing with Usagichi that occurred during the last Lunar Eclipse revealed to him whispers of who was to succeed him.
Silently, he removed his mask and stowed it, then coughed loudly to catch Shiroi's attention. "It would be rather difficult for you to acquire that summoning creature, I would think. Unless of course, you agree to fight me for the right to sign the Hare Summoning contract. Alvard of the Shakuton clan, Sage of the Hares, at your service. I can't allow just anybody the privilege of summoning the most noble Hare, so unless you can pass my test, I recommend you reconsider." He would see for himself if her commitment was solid, and it would also help him with recovering some rusted skills.
"If you truly wish to continue down this path, then meet me at the training grounds. I will judge you there." In an instant, he was gone, a swirl of sand the only indication that he'd been there.

San gave a smile at the Kage's comment, and let it brush off. You never woke a Miyamoto from their sleep unless...well..you just never did it. Speaking in a still quieter and relaxed tone, the sannin decided it was time to report in.
"Unfortunatly no, sensei, but i figured teat would at least help. I have alot to report about Gimangakure. The city itself was founded a long time ago, being fought over by two major factions: the Kurokasa Mafia and the Shinjiro Yakuza. Their conflict has been in nearly every form from right out battle to political espionage to peaceful negotiations. James is currently contracted by the Kurokasa, and is attempting to recieve information about the current state of affairs. From my own information gathering, neither of them are really happy with the arrival of the UHV."
San took the pot, and poured himself some tea. Was he getting hungry too?
"The city has some interesting attractions. Their is a casino where you can bet ryo, an arena, night club, tavern, and those are just above ground. Through a dangerous system of tunnels, their is a man who, for the lack of a better word, houses the black market that specializes in rare and specialty items. It was when i made my way to the Hospital that i found the real information."
San rose the cup to his lips, and took a long sip of tea. It seemed this part would raise many issues and questions, but was of the upmost importance.
"I met Mamoru, One and Six, at the hospital researching Juin Jutsu. With them was the man known as Souh, or we would better know as Akane. He is the first otokage of Otogakure, which is currently allied with the UHV...which leaves us in quite the predicament. While i was there, i witnessed 2 successful applications of versions of the Juin, one done by Souh. I think we need to be very careful with this Village....because of what he tried last time. "
San took a power bar from his burden golem and began to munch down. He indeed had become hungry in his long travel. After chewing and swallowing, he spoke again.
"Mamoru asked me to, with your permission, return to him with some scrolls on Fuuin, possibly taking them from the Miyamoto household in...well...the Void if possible. He is doing some massive research, and this would greatly help him.
This is all the major news i have to give, but i ahve another development that will need your attention. Kin, one of our chunnin sent to the exams...he didnt just lose his bout...he never even tried. He simply gave up, and didnt even participate. I would recomend signing him up for disciplinary action. He has put this village in danger by not performing well. Reputation spills less blood, am i correct?"
San took his cup, and began drinking the tea again to wash down the power bar. Hopefully, he handt missed anything

Bast sipped on her tea, warming up her mind as San spoke of his adventures. She did not respond immediately to his request for scrolls, but rather addressed what seemed to be the least significant of all the information.
"What were the circumstances of Kin's surrender?" she asked.
Rather than seeming worried about the bundle of information that had just fallen into her lap, she instead seemed to be just as calm as before. It was almost as if her nap had helped to clear her mind. While it hadn't actually done so, it had calmed her down enough to ignore the ongoing frustration of not having pens.
As her mind churned, she summarized the report thus: the two warring factions in Gimangakure disliked the UHV, they have access to rare and special items, One and Six were working alongside the ex-Suna-nin Otokage to develop "Curse Marks", and they wanted to use some of the scrolls in her sister's care. She was beginning to formulate a plan of action, but would wait for a response regarding Kin.
