Marianne's smile warmed up a little. "I'm glad to hear that they're doing well. As for miss Larai, she's probably just a late bloomer. Give her a few years and I'm sure she'll be just as magically inclined as her brother, if not more so."

"I hope so, or Kai'd get quite the ego, something he really doesn't need." Van said with a chuckle as he tucked the book under one arm. "Well, I got what I came for so I should get going. Hopefully I can convince Mala to get over it all before the kids are of drinking age."

Marianne chuckled slightly, waving at Van as he left. "Thank you. See you later, I guess."

Van waved over his shoulder as he left and made the long trek back up the stairs. "I'm back!" he called as he came home. "Marianne gave me something that should help your magical cooking." he said presenting Mala with the book. "And before you say anything, no, it's not cursed, jinxed, hexed, or any other form of bad enchantment."

"I'll try it out later and see, okay?" Mala said, keeping a somewhat gloomy look about her.

"Alright, so why the gloom?" Van asked as he set the book aside.

"I don't like dealing with her. I don't see why you insist on me trying to get along with her. To an extreme lesser extent, it'd be like me trying to force you and Atius to become friends." Mala said, sighing softly to herself. "Except you are angry at him for incarceration while I'm angry at mother for abandoning me."

"I have to admit, you do have a point there..." Van said with a sigh before walking up and hugging her from behind while resting his chin on her shoulder. "You're right, and I'm sorry. I just feel bad leaving someone out of the family when they don't deserve it. Yeah, I hate Atius, but he hated me first and still does. Your mom on the other hand doesn't hate you and wishes you'd forgive her someday."

Mala sighed softly. "If you want to get them involved with her, go ahead. I just won't be going anywhere near her, acknowledging that she is a living person and not a rotted corpse, or forgiving her for abandoning me without telling me why." Mala was stubborn, and it would take a great deal of persistance and effort to get her anywhere near forgiving Marianne. It wasn't impossible, just highly improbable.

"I thought she explained why she left before?" Van said, remembering the girls talking about something when they found out Marianne was alive and well.

"Have you ever heard the phrase 'too little too late'?" Mala asked, raising an eyebrow. "It's expecting a bit much of me to come up and explain something like that after hundreds of years versus a week's notice."

"Can I at least remind you that Marianne lives in the local temple ruins? There's only so long you can hide her from the kids you know." Van said.

 

[M3Gnificent]

"As I said, introduce them if you like - just don't leave them alone with her and don't expect me to go with you." Mala said, not ready to budge further than this just yet.

 

[Zelly-fangirl]

"Well, it's a start I guess. Perhaps the overpowering innocence of our children telling you how great their grandma is will change your mind later." Van said as he removed his arms from around Mala and went to find Kai and Larai. "Alright, who's up for a little field trip?"

"Hardly likely." Mala grumbled. "If you need me, I'll be sleeping the stress away."

Larai ran from her current location to Van's, grinning from ear to ear. "I am! I am!" she exclaimed merilly.
