The droid's photoreceptors and targeting systems must be damaged. The droid goes in for a closer attack by igniting it's saber and rushing the boy.

Hmmm... Still not close enough. The droid grabs the boy in a bear hug and headbutts him with it's metallic cranium.

Though unharmed by the blast, the woman is distracted long enough for the droid to pull out it's blaster. It fires a few precise shots at the woman.
