@ Shogi Competition:
Hogai would grin, snatching up his king and tossing it to Kagae without warning. "A Hida backs down from no challenge. Your wall isn't to give us an advantage, but to give us a level playing field. Careful playing with tactics like that back home, Kagae-san, or they'll say you fight with the ruthless spirit of the Shadowlands. Or, worse yet, the Scorpion." He would laugh to himself, in an attempt to cheer Kagae up.
"I heard that. Those accusations are both slanderous and untrue," Shosuro Naizen would say from the side of the table. How long had he been standing there, watching?!
"I'll be your next opponent," he said, addressing Kagae. Behind Naizen, a very distressed-looking Wazuka was leaving the area, seemingly drained.

@ Athletics Competition, Horsemanship Event:
@ Hisashi's Run...
Yoritomo Hisashi would be the last samurai to take a mount. Since Sayoko went and got her own, he had his choice of two, and decided on the slightly smaller of the two. Attempting to get it to go the direction he wanted, he would eventually turn it towards the logs.
The pony would casually approach them, walking around when it could, and making short 'hops' over them. A type of motion that would threaten to make someone seasick, if they weren't as awesome as a Mantis!
Next came the staffs that had been lined up like tree branches. He wasn't a bushi so he didn't try any fancy stunts like Sayoko did, so he would use the height advantage of the pony being smaller than the rest to minimize his bumps. He would get tagged a few times, but the pony's casual gait helped soften the blows.
When it got to the trenches, however, it seemed less than pleased, and attempted to turn around! Hisashi would struggle to make it regain its focus, and it turned so suddenly where he slid off its back! Holding into the reigns, he was in for a bumpy ride as it then proceeded to jump over the trenches, luckily not stamping on him in the process!
The horse would drag Hisashi on a bit until he managed to "Whoa!" it into submission. It had already proceeded on the fourth section, and just as Hisashi managed to climb atop the mount, he turned to see the Daidoji rushing him a la Braveheart style! This was going to suWHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK!
........
When the momentary daze was over, the Daidoji had scared the mount onto the fifth track, a heavily bruised Hisashi was practically drooling as he simply lay there, hugging the beast's neck. Now with Hurt wound penalties, the mount suddenly hurried for the first time, galloping towards the finish line. Unable to keep himself upright, Hisashi would plummet from the top of the pony, rolling across the ground as the horse finished without him!
Not an impressive run, and tied his fellow Mantis, scoring 4 points!
HORSEMANSHIP SCOREBOARD Horiuchi Sayoko 16 points. Isawa Sosuke 10 points Bayushi Kojiro 10 points Ujina Denbe 10 points Kakita Zanzen 6 points Yoritomo Hisashi 4 points Yoritomo Susumu 4 points
YORITOMO HISASHI HAS BEEN ELIMINATED! Susumu had higher results on 4/5 rolls.
--------------------
"Not... the most impressive showing I have ever seen. Unless you boys want to walk everywhere in the empire, I suggest you learning at least how to control a horse," Raicho said, a bit of disappointment in her voice. She would wave the servants over, as they would police up all the ponies, including Ume-chan, and return them to the stables.
Ume-chan, having been fed an apple or two, gave one last longing look to Bayushi Kojiro with her big brown eyes as she was led away.
"I will go meet Horiuchi Sayoko as she is returning to the group, so take this moment to rest. Yoritomo Hisashi, feel free to peel your pitiful self off the ground and get back to your tent." And with that, Raicho would begin walking away.
