Panpour didn't have a whole lot of power thanks to Sunny Day. Well, with the Work Up boost he'd regained his edge. Still, he wasn't set up for kicking a** like a boss just yet. Instead, he'd have to wait out the Sunny Day before he could prove all that effective offensively.
Or at least set up.
So that is why Cress sighed the order, "cover him." Instead of getting a moment to continue to increase his own skill, Cress was forced to cover his brother.
The blast of Water Gun might not have the full effectiveness that it usually had but as it made contact with Night Shade it would be enough to distort and destroy the image of Pansear's fear, the water looking to filter through and turn the Night Shade into a mist of ghostly energy that dispersed soon after.

Pansear flipped.
"Rock Smash!" Chili commanded.
The fire monkey shot down towards the ground, fist ready and the pounding into the rock floor below. The surge of strength would smash the ground and kick it up quickly and aggressive - like some giant Diglett was churning up turf. Only this was a route of rock headed straight for Petilil and Melty.
And here came the kicker. Just beneath the rock ground that made the arena, orange, red and bubbling lava awaited inside a vat. It was the opposite of a frozen lake - the rock substituted ice and the water came straight from a volcano. Simply put, beneath the easily-cracked ground was a pit of fiery death.
Lava sprayed up as the Rock Smash sent the surge of rocky power powering toward the two challenging pokémon.
"The Special Desolation Zone is a special arena reserved for only the most willing of opponents," Chili said with an icy cold tone that sounded utterly alien with him, "Is your will strong enough to defeat us?!"

******** route of lava had opened up before them, coming at them quickly with the liquid fire of death. Melty grit his teeth, there wasn't anything he could do in this situation. Except to try and absorb any flame that managed to catch Petilil. Fire and lava were two different things, though, right? To put it simply, even Melty would succumb to such heat if it caught him.
Still, though, they needed to mount an offense. Dodging all sorts of moves was nice, but it didn't mean a thing if they couldn't land a single blow. This was just from the Pansear, too. Mostly.
"Dizzy Ray!" came Henrietta's order as the temperature in the room instantly skyrocketed. She could feel, both from fear and heat, the sweat come instantly. Hair and cloth clung and her brow furrowed. There wasn't much they could do about it, though.
The Confuse Ray fired from Melty, aiming to catch Pansear if he could.

"Magical Leaf!" Wayne commanded at the same time.
Petilil would then shoot out her leaves, which arced outward both left and right. With Confuse ray heading down the centre, that meant there were attacks coming from three different directions to strike the Pansear.
Even if they could destroy the confuse ray, that left two sets of magical leaf for the gym leading brothers to contend with. Either way, it intended to limit their movements while opening them up for another assault.
Just as Magical Leaf fired, Petilil shot off to the side, avoiding the rock that exploded upward. Lava and fiery embers threatened to splash and burn them, but with Melty absorbing fire and an amount of the heat with his Flash Fire, all Petilil had to do was keep moving to the side to avoid being struck by the lava.
And after it passed, the rock that was being broken up stopped and settled, leaving a scar on the arena - a line of lava with tiny islands of black rock swimming amidst the bubbling orange glow.

He could feel the overall will of his opponent's waver. Like a balance scale tipping to one side as Henrietta's will wavered. That was the power of just looking upon the Desolation Zone's true form. He noted the attacks Pansear had to deal with and left him to it. Cress, after all, didn't have time to stand around.
Sunny Day would fade soon (cause this is the third round of posts) and he had to prepare for his own offensive. First and foremost he said, "Work up into Scald!"
Panpour would dance then, in Petilil's direction, his movements keeping him facing her if she tried to evade the direct line and it would end, ultimately, with the firing of Scald.
Unless Petilil had the foresight to try and put Pansear in the firing line, then he'd hold off until Petilil was forced to move. Cause, you know, trying to put Pansear in the firing line of anything was like trying to put a flamethrower in the firing line with some bees.
Secondly, Cress said, "don't let yourself waver from just that, challenger! Come on, it's just a little heat, show your resolve!" Chili, who had become uncharacteristically cool, was the contrast to Cress who had become excited at the match.
With one hand on his shirt, he'd tear it away in a display of manliness one wouldn't expect from someone who was normally such a gentleman. The shirt thrown to the side, all that was left was the muscular build one wouldn't expect from such a guy.

"You got that?" Chili said with a grin, loosening his bow tie and throwing it aside. "You're never gonna match us with such uninspired tricks!"
He threw his hand forward, "Role Play!"
Pansear then watched Petilil, a careful stare on his face. It may have been a trick of the light, but it suddenly appeared as if a ghostly form of Petilil was standing behind the pokémon. With that, the ghost vanished and he'd copied her abilities - Own Tempo and Chlorophyll.
With his speed boosted by Sunny Day, Pansear raced off to the side, out of Scald's way and behind the pair of pokémon. They were trapped between the two monkeys in a pincer movement.
"Flame Burst!"
Pansear would release a blast of fire aimed for Petilil. When this move made contact with something it would explode into a pair of fire balls, which would then pair off again and again whenever they struck something else. The best part being that even if Melty was hit by a secondary strike, it'd negate his Flash Fire technique and harm him. It was unlikely that either Melty or Henrietta knew this. And it made Chili smirk.
"You'll never match my flame, Henrietta and Frieeeeeend!"

Wait. Waitwaitwaitwaitwait!
Why did they remove articles of clothing? Henrietta's cheeks tingled and tinged pink but her focus remained on the match for the most part. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Henrietta would have to make a decision. The enemy had copied Petilil's speed and if Henrietta was being honest, Pansear looked a lot faster with the speed boost in comparison to Petilil.
Furthermore, they still had Panpour to contend with. This was where they would have to part ways. Still, they were contending with fire here. A master of flames. Henrietta was out of ideas, but she had to believe. Believe that Melty had something. Anything. Anything in his arsenal that could put an end to this.
[There's only ******** room-
Melty leaped from Petilil and into the flames. Even if he was harmed, it didn't matter. He was right ******** pissed, closing the distance between himself and Pansear to get right up in his face.
-FOR ONE MOTHER ******** FLAME MASTER!]
Melty knew it. An instinct of his species. An ability, a technique. When it came to training, to coaching, for upgrading techniques, for form manipulation and such, like turning an Ember into a stream of fire, that required some effort, some training.
This, however, required none of that. This was will, this was passion. This was mother ******** Melty.
The pink gates of Imprison exploded from Melty's purple flame, the purple fading into pink as the bars would circle around Pansear and aim to catch him. It wasn't that they needed to hold him, it was merely that the cage needed to be completed and Pansear's flame attacks that Melty knew would be sealed.
The list including; Fire Spin Flamethrower Will-O-Wisp Flame Burst

Since Pansear had moved away so quickly, Magical Leaf would hone in on the next available target. Or in other words they were headed for Panpour. Because of their arc, one lot of leaves would be hurtling from behind and the other more or less directly in front of the monkey.
His Scald went Petilil's way and Melty jumped off to deal with Pansear. Oh no. Breaking up was not a part of the plan. Not err, not that they were together or anything. Petilil's face went a deeper green. N-not like that... Umm.
"Mega Drain!"
R-right! M-Mega Drain! Petilil shot out the twister of green energy to drill right through the Scalding hot water. The technique absorbed energy, so it got to work reducing the heat from the water into nothing but cool. And the force it was thrown with was rendered inert, making the Scald just Splash down ineffectually.
Petilil continued forward, aiming to take advantage of Panpour needing to deal with her Magical Leaves. "Another Mega Drain!"
Wayne's command was followed by another blast of green, aimed carefully to follow Panpour's movements - meaning that Petilil would wait until he moved before firing, preventing the monkey from simply leaping out of the way. This would be boosted by Growth, which had doubled Petilil's special attack potential, alongside the extra damage gained from a super effective hit. Or in other words, Mega Drain would be devastating to the water monkey.
"This is good," Wayne said to Henrietta. He figured she'd be panicking now that their practised formation was broken, "Keep Pansear away from Petilil and we can take Panpour down. We can do this."

The restaurant exploded in high-pitched squeels of girls and women alike when Cress' shirt was ripped off. Avan's jaw dropped, and his face turned a deep red when he saw the muscular display of the blue-haired gym leader. It was like the images in his head had manifested themselves just for him. It was incredible. He was officially in 'swoon' mode.

Cress was calm, confident, collected, intelligent, er, other descriptive words. He was not going to be hit by a dual use grass attack. Simply put; ******** all that jazz.
Panpour moved, but only to position himself differently. It was as he jumped aside to assure he wouldn't be caught in the firing line of Pansear's attack, that he was given the order, "freeze it."
Hands extended, one for each side. Magical leaf coming at one side, Petilil's Mega Drain at the other. One would applaud such skill and badassery as Panpour released not one, but two mother ******** Blizzard attacks that tore the attacks coming at him apart.
The leaves frozen and left to be all not magical and the Mega Drain would hit the blizzard, the icy blowing winds and ice would force the attack's force apart, tearing it apart as the ice moved in a flurry through the Mega Drain, the attack aimed to eat apart the Mega Drain and, as it reached Petilil, tear apart the Petilil, too.

Chili was so ******** happy.
"Rock Smash!" he shouted again and Pansear stomped on the ground with one foot, carving out a chuck of rock about the size and shape of a surf board. With Melty coming towards him, that meant that when the rock was quickly flipping into the air, speedily spinning around, the flat of it would be aimed right at Melty's back.
Assuming Melty didn't have eyes in the back of his head (which he doesn't) the attack would most likely catch him off guard. And assuming Melty isn't a speed demon (which his 20 base speed would attest that he's very much not) then it'd be highly unlikely to assume that he could A) turn around to counter in the split second time frame he had or B) dodge out of the way in that same split second.
It also meant that by grabbing the rock's tip as it span downward, Pansear could let it carry him underneath it, soaring above the lava without any trouble His fire type made the lava's convection feel more warm than insanely painful and agonising.
So by jumping out the other side, Pansear left Melty and the Imprison cage behind with a rock spinning right in the way. Even if Melty phased through it, the rock would still block his attacks unless he moved clear of it. If he found he couldn't shift through rock, after all ghost types aren't immune to rock type attacks so he probably can't, and it struck him, he'd be sent into the middle of his own Imprison technique.
If Imprison "Seals all moves known by the user." then by falling victim to his own, Melty would effectively lose his entire arsenal. Or rather, he would lose his entire arsenal.
So with his enhanced speed, Pansear would leave Melty eating dust. Even assuming the ghost type wasn't at all impeded by the prior, he'd still be too, too slow to ever hope of closing the considerable gap in time to come to Petilil's aid. Even his fire, assuming he could still use it, wasn't fast enough to reach Pansear.
And with his speed helping him keep track of her movements, so basically meaning that dodging would be really damn hard for her, Pansear launched a high speed Fire Blast at Petilil's back.

This was it. The gym leaders Chili and Cress were relentless. They always had been. This was the moment Henrietta had dreaded. Yet, she felt strangely calm now. She watched the entire scenario taking place in mere moments, seconds would pass before that rock hit. However, it never would. Henrietta knew this.
The twisting rock came high and everything passed.
"Mini!" was the called order. Melty knew what she meant to do. There was only time for hearing one command, however he needed one more, an offensive. Abandoning the Imprison in favor of minimizing himself, Melty reached a size that would allow the rock to pass in front of him. Micro-sized, Melty would hit the rock, landing with some skill as he twisted himself around to face Pansear.
To the naked eye he was a tiny creature, almost a dot, an ant to creatures. Aiming at him alone would take some training. A smirk had crossed his expression and, before the rock would twist to fling him away, to safety from the lava, he released it. All one fluid motion, from landing and twisting to releasing the Night Shade at Pansear's back, where he had no chance of seeing it.
Then the rock would spin, completing its rotation and throwing Melty clear of the lava pit that had opened from the new Rock Smash, sending him across the arena. Away from Petilil but it didn't matter, he would have to be able to take care of himself, as Petilil would have to be able to take care of her own self.

But as Panpour had only used Blizzard in two directions, when attacks came from three (Magical Leaf was attacking from two at once) he'd be open to being struck hard in the back, which is what happened. Basically several, double boosted, super effective blades slashed into his spine.
If that didn't at least stun him then clearly the gym's machine had selected the wrong Panpour.
And with the last of the Sunny Day in the air, Wayne would call out, "Solar Beam!" for Petilil to launch a high powered blast of similarly boosted, similarly super effective energy to engulf the water monkey before he could recover.
With Fire Blast heading Petilil's way (ohh yes) Wayne would call out a quick, "Synthesis!"
And Petilil would begin the powered up healing process that would heal damage as it was made. Meaning that even though Petilil was consumed by horrible, agonising flames, screaming a high pitched shriek, she'd be healing herself at the same time the damage was being done. It ultimately left her charred and weakened, but not out.

The end of Sunny Day, the dimming light that spelled the end of the challenger's hopes. Separated and about to lose a lot of their power, the two stood no chance now.
Even as Panpour was caught by two super effect powered up moves, Cress did not flinch. This was, normally, the point where he'd call the match, as Panpour roared with the ferocity of his species, of his entire kind by scientific classification(monkeys, in case you're stupid), he said no word.
A cool demeanor. If one had faced Cress before, they would note that they got their badge at this point. Cress was not feeling that merciful today.
"The candle," Cress desginated the new target as Petilil was engulfed in flames. Panpour, who struggled to his feet, weakened by the dual attacks, had a target he was confident that he could beat. Melty, a speck on the radar, was across the arena and Panpour stared in the direction.
"Get it."
Panpour exploded into action. Ferocity, adrenaline and rage. The cool demeanor of Cress did not reflect in his Pokemon. One giant leap into the crushing of the ground, sending boulders high and, with skillful movements, they'd be sent toward Melty, to bury his entire vicinity in Rock Tomb.

The Night Shade struck Pansear's back and his world shifted; the arena floor looked like an ocean of water, not a speck of land in sight, nothing to grab onto. Just water. Cold, sharp, painful water. He'd drown. Be devoured by the waves, sink to the endless, pitch black depths of despair. Never again to see the light of hope.
Or at least that was what ran through Pansear's mind until he touched down and the illusion was dispelled. It had damaged him mentally, but not really enough to impede his movements. It was a pretty pointless attack, actually.
And then he launched his Fire Blast, which we've established hit Petilil and left her injured.
Not stopping there; Sunny Day had faded and Petilil's speed had been reduced to pitiful. Chili saw his mark and seized this chance.
"Fire Blast!"
And Pansear landed, even closer than last time, aiming to blast poor Petilil with another powerful attack. While not as strong without Sunny Day, it wouldn't matter - Petilil had been weakened and this next shot would finish her off. Without her Chlorophyll boost, Petilil had pretty much no chance of avoiding this blast. And even with the now less effective Synthesis, she wouldn't be able to recover at a rate enough to compete with Fire Blast's damage.
Chili tore his shirt off. It was heating up so much that not even he could bear it any longer!
