Millie walked away from the tree she had been staring at and summoned her spear.

Charging the tree at nearly a full run, Millie spun all the way around to give her spear more force at the last minute as she struck the tree as hard as she could.

Candy rained down next to her and she giggled at how many there were. She managed to grab a few of them before they melted, but many were melting before she could get to them. In a frantic attempt to grab one farther away, Millie didn't notice the branches swaying above her from her hit.

Suddenly, a medium-sized pile of snow fell upon Millie's head burying her feet up to her knees in snow. Millie shook the snow off her head and pulled herself out to peek in her woefully underfilled basket.

Maybe it would be better not to hit the trees that hard...

A snow globe? Right. All his life he had been led to believe the only way to other lands was through the trees or the long way, of course, but between the elves' hallway portal and now Red's globe, West was beginning to suspect the paths between the worlds were much more fluid.

He leaned forward, about to rise from his seat when the world changed around him. West flopped onto the snowy ground but was on his feet again quickly. He frowned. No one saw that. They better not have.

So, candy. If this picking sweets thing was similar to what the tatzel did back home, they'd have this done in no time. He bent over, grabbing something he was sure was a peppermint. It wasn't.

Millie tried tapping the tree instead. She had managed to grab several handfuls but somehow her basket seemed just as empty. It was a little fuller now but not by much.

Millie was getting frustrated. How had Roch filled up his basket that quickly?

Was there some sort of secret to doing this gracefully?

Millie tried hitting another tree in an attempt to do it as gracefully and as effortless looking as Roch had done, but branches fell down around Millie instead of candy. She let out a yelp in surprise and a little bit of fear as one nearly clocked her on the head, but thankfully, they all missed her.

Embarrassed, Millie plopped down next to her basket and grabbed a nearby branch from the ground. Millie had to pick the candy off the fallen branches by hand.

Her basket was getting fuller, wasn't it? Millie pouted as she pulled small candies off the fallen branches, glaring at Roch's turned back, as if it was his fault she was so clumsy.

Clearly she needed a new tactic.

Millie sought out the largest tree she could find without wandering too far from the group, but it was still a bit away. They were still within yelling distance at least. Hopefully this wide tree wouldn't drop branches on her with a little hit.

Gripping Esu as hard as she could, she twirled around and struck the tree with as much force as she could muster.

Candy rained down around her. The smaller pieces melted almost immediately, but there were several large pieces Millie could grab before the melted. She managed to fill her basket and then some.

"Alright!" She yelled to herself. "Progress!"

This was Millie's new favorite tree.
She debated on hitting it with the full force of her FEAR attack, but in the end, that would probably not be a very wise idea. Besides, simply whacking it as hard as she could was more fun.

Before long, she had quickly filled up another basket with a few more good whacks.

Millie took a moment to rest from racing around under this tree and looked back towards the group. A somber thought had occurred to her, This wasn't just a race to fill baskets as Millie had been treating it for the past half hour. This was an attempt to heal another student.

What if it didn't work? What if he was stuck that way? This.. disease was contagious and it had affected several other students, Professor Red included. They all had been cured obviously, but what did these candies do?

Millie looked in her basket at the colorful candy. It looked like FEAR candy to Millie. Well, different shapes but they did smell sweet. What would happen if you ate one?

Roch felt someone staring at him. He turned, but saw nothing but other students trying to get candy... well, sure, he was going to be paranoid in Christmasland, he told himself. He'd been kicked in the fork by a nutcracker, he wasn't about to forget that fact...

But he still felt like someone had been hating on him for some reason, he thought as he tapped another tree with his guitar. He finished off the second basket and tossed five more into a third.

Terra had been trying to figure out what the candy had to do with her weapon. She was just STARING at the piece she'd plucked, a suspicious look on her painted face, as if it would do something strange to her at any moment. But it just looked like candy, she finally decided. It made her sigh. She reached out a hand, summoning her weapon and going to the nearest tree. It looked as if whacking it was the way to go.

Then she glared at Roch because he made it look so easy. And while he wasn't looking, scooped up a handful of snow, patted it into a ball, and threw it at the back of his head. Sadly, it only hit his back.

She went back to working and looking innocent as he turned to see who had done it.

She must not have looked innocent enough. But Terra was in the middle of trying to grab all of the candy that fell from the next hit when the snowball hit her in the middle of the back, sending half of her candy flying.

When she looked up, Roch was busy. She sent him a very dirty look and went back to work--only to lose almost all of the second half of her basket when another snowball hit her--exactly where the first had.

She wasn't going to tell the professora. But she WAS going to shove snow down his pants, she swore. As soon as she finished this basket, that was.

Snow down his pants, down his shirt--he would be sorry for not wearing sleeves, even if he was wearing a coat at the moment, Terra swore as she hit the tree again with her weapon. He would regret ever picking a fight with Terra Bethel Scythe!!

Wait... she'd been the first to throw a snowball...

REGARDLESS!! She was so busy mentally ranting that she tripped and spilled half of the basket she'd just gathered.

Oh, now she was fuming. It was ALL ROCH'S FAULT!! She turned, glowering at her hermano, her hands tightening on the violin--

Malodore made a startled noise as, quite suddenly, they were somewhere else entirely. Somewhere festive. And minty. And cold. It turned in place, looking around at everything. Ah, yes, it remembered these trees, though it rather hoped none of them were animate; a memory made it sigh for a moment, of Cider Fairies and drunken trees, and particularly of drunken sirens. Israfel...

It shook away the thought, though. They were here to bring Jericho back, and save him from a fate that might be worse than what had befallen their siren friend. It listened to Red's explanation, then relaxed a bit as she went over to Shehk. Surely, Red would be able to assist her - and more effectively than Malodore itself could, too. It picked its way through the snow to a basket. They were indeed surprisingly light and delicate in their construction.

Thankfully, the trees showed no signs of hitting on it, metaphorically or literally. It braced one claw against the tree and began to shake. At first nothing fell, and then Malodore lost its grip on its basket - thankfully, there was nothing in there to fall out!

At last, a few candies fell, and Malodore collected them and carefully tucked them into the basket. They looked pretty lonely, though. More would be required.

Terra took a deep breath. She counted to ten. She reminded herself that she was almost finished with her basket--and that she was being a good ghoul because Christmas was coming soon--

And she whacked another tree, picturing her hermano. She hit it too hard. A big drift of snow dropped onto her, hitting her basket and letting most of what she'd gathered disappear.

She shoved the snow off of her, feeling her makeup gone completely, and groaned as she saw what had happened. This job did NOT like her.

It was a good thing Jayden always wore long sleeve shirts under his T-shirts and that he was wearing sweat pants instead of shorts, because Christmas land was colder then any water he had ever surfed in. But he was fine. The important thing here was to gather candy. So he figured he would just climb the tree, if he kicked the thing it mite fall on another student and Jayden didn't want his fellow students to get hurt by something he did. Besides, he wasn't lazy although this tree would be difficult to climb he was up to the challenge.

So after getting up off the cold snow, he started climbing a tree. At first he was about to reach for a candy cane but the branch broke. Falling to the ground, he stood up and went back to climbing, this time he would have to find a different route. Climbing on a different branch this time he managed to grab three gum drops. He jumped down and put them in the basket. Climbing back up again this time he managed to grab one small piece of a candy cane,but it was one joy unit so that counted right? That would be four units so far. He had a lot more climbing to do. He jumped down again and put the piece of candy cane in the basket.

The plague doctor continued to shake, then yelped audibly as a huge piece of candy crashed onto its head; when the dust settled, its basket (and its hat, and its clothing) had a fine dusting of peppermint all over it. Stubbornly, it kept shaking, but only one small piece fell out. Time to move to another tree? Probably.

Malodore wandered for a bit until it found a likely tree; it clung onto the trunk and started shaking for all it was worth. A rain of candy splattered around it; at some point the basket got tipped over, and it hurriedly righted it again. A few large candies exploded on impact. It was chaos.

But when the fallout was over, Malodore found itself with a full basket.
