We had been in the process of hatching when she hatched, one of the queens pointed out. Just because it took longer, since our egg was pretty full, doesn't mean that it wasn't our turn to hatch too. She seemed a bit offended by the whole production, and her level of annoyance was slightly elevated.
Her sister, on the other hand, was downright irked. Not to the point of attacking their brother, mind you, but annoyed to be sure. This is not some noble battle of ideals that you can win. We were hatched this way. Neither of us asked for it, but it is our hatch right! For they were queens of Pern! Whatever the Weyr might think, there were certain natural responsibilities and honors bestowed upon a queen, however free minded their Weyr might be.
This was ridiculous.
So you say, Brown Paw Print hissed. But I haven't seen you do a single thing to earn anything. You just showed up. And I had been hatching too!
Blue and Purple Paint was not in the business of talking things out. She was in the business of smacking a b***h. So, without further adieu, she closed with the foremost queen, and glared up into her face. It was going to get real very soon.

Korbet
His first smile of the evening resulted from the appearance of yet another set of twins, this time a bronze and a brown. They really were all rather charming, even the ones who were still fighting. Maybe it was because he was regularly surrounded by bickering, red-eyed firelizards, but he wasn't all that concerned over the greens and golds. Until they started mauling candidates, he was content to let them be, withdrawing his thoughts from the group entirely. Korbet wished he could convey that sentiment to their brown sire. The massive dragon looked rather miserable.
He watched a number of less belligerent greens express interest in the humans nearby, Blue Cloud and Daisy drawing his eye as they wandered. Korbet straightened, pulling a roll of parchment out of his belt and scribbling messily as inspiration struck. When he looked up again, he noticed a petite bronze, just... sitting. Watching. What was he thinking?

That, the angry queen spat, was not the first blow! Or did you forget our poor siblings who were not ready to be hatched? Does their suffering mean nothing to you? I was trying to stop her. And for that she had been greatly scolded by their father as well as the Candidates!
The other queen stared down at her sister, but did not back down. I'm surprised at you, sister. Surely your ire has a better target than either of us. For indeed, they had not been the ones who had chosen to hatch.
Blue and Purple Paint green snorted. Are you? When all you can do is lord it over us as though you are better than us? When our sister had her pinned down and helpless? I was supposed to just stay in my egg? Tch! The green swatted her sister again, who did not retaliate. Why, indeed, should she when this was but the tiniest of efforts? Hardly worthwhile.
Which, naturally, only incensed Brown Paw Print all the more. You could have apologized, or even said anything at all. But no. The most rude sisters.

Nikal - 19, he/him
Nikal stiffened even more as Aerdan joined them, and he kept his gaze forward, his fists still at his side. He gave a noncommittal grunt that was hard to tell where it had been aimed. Most likely at the both of them. After all, Nikal was just as used to rebuffing the statements as Allamor was giving them. Watch the other two get their dragons and see how much caring about him stuck around.
“Way too late to be bloodless,” he said simply.
He was much more interested in what was starting to form between the hatched babies. Several stayed attentive about the candidates, but there was a storm brewing between the greens, golds, and supporters or arbiters. He didn’t want to look away.
- - - Karunia - 20, she/her
She gave a chipper shrug. “They have a sixth sense!” Karunia guessed. “I’ve heard from people that work with the herdbeasts that sometimes they act up before a bad storm. And dragons naturally know who their best match is on top of that! It’s all tied together! I think!” She was just a girl who liked engineering and the beauty found in fire HN03 sprayers; everything else she just trusted as part of a system she didn’t necessarily have to know each moving part for. Dragons were just built better, and she loved them for it.
“I like their spirit,” she added as an aside, quiet as if this were a show. An important show, and a dramatic one at that. “Sort of waiting for the harpers to strike up an equally dramatic tune.”

... Both sets of girls turned to stare at their brother, all a little disbelieving. Clearly, if they had thought it was silly, they wouldn't have been having the argument in the first place.
You are too bold, the irritated queen said, and then visibly flinched when their father spoke up again. Had she truly been acting in the wrong? The gold's eyes went a little more grey than red again, although her hide remained its bright hue. Why did everyone keep telling her to stop being what she was? Or implying that there was something else she ought to be doing?
No, both greens said sullenly, and almost in unison. But it was the other queen's response that set them off.
This is all quite enough. You're done now.
Excuse her?? What did she mean, they were done now? Brown Paw Print wasn't done, and Blue and Purple Paint had only just gotten started. So saying, she smacked her golden sister with the flat of her tail, right across the face.
The twin behind her let out a bellow of rage, and charged. Oh dear.

Vesden | High Reaches | He/Him
Oh right, the pretty boy who'd bumped that egg before. He'd almost forgot he was there for a minute, he'd been so intently focused on the hatching. Jaiyce, was it? That was a nice enough name, maybe a bit hard to shorten if he impressed today.
"Thanks, you're probably right." He admitted easily enough, accepting the steadying hand on him and willing himself to ignore the heat of the sands through his thin soled sandals.
"Vesden, formerly of Telgar. That is a handsome pair." He said, aiming his own good thoughts on the newly hatched twins, eyes back on the sands. He flashed Jaiyce a quick gentle smile, he appreciated the steadying effect a little small talk had on his nerves.
Of course it didn't last long before the first attack on a candidate. It ended as soon as it started though, and the girl didn't look any worse for the wear. Vesden covered his mouth with his hand, concern for the girl and the dragons who were now squaring off. Things had really gotten off to a bad start, but he'd heard of hatchings that went much worse than this.
"I hope the blue talks them down," He mused aloud, trying to ease his own apprehension somewhat, "They don't deserve to be so tense right out of the shell."
Oh. Well... he winced, spoke too soon. This was going well.

Oh!
Oh it was time, and here they were still egging! ... and yet, this one could sense something happening out there. Something was both very right and very wrong and this egg wasn't sure if it should continue to be the Best Egg to Ever Egg.... or if it should instead throw itself out there. Especially because...well....
So it was, the Flying Purple Heart Egg started to wobble from where it had been placed! Someone inside wanted out. Finally, with a loud crack, and a few shrugs, a green wing appeared, followed by another shove, and suddenly a head. Eyes whirling bright yellow, the dragonet immediately focused on the crowd of siblings over there... Just in time to see Blue and Purple Paint Green smack her golden sister right in the face!.
What did you just do!? DID YOU... DID YOU JUST... hang, my wing is stuck... DID YOU JUST HIT HER!? The green was trying desperately to get out of its egg and approach, but it literally was partially stuck in its shell; one foreleg out, one wing halfway out, along with her head, and her shoulders.
They are you queen and you need to listen to them, oh yes you do! Daddy, you make them stop! Mama! Mama, make them stop and say sorry! Little greens shouldn't go around defying our sisters' orders!! You need to stop or... Or I'll make you! While she would never go up against her beloved golden siblings, she had no problem putting a green in their place. Why? Because she knew her place, and that was to be good, and dutiful, and helpful, and not-at-all-smack-Queens-no-matter-the-size.
I'll tell on you! She threatened, baring her fangs, and hissing... even as she struggled to get out of the egg. It wouldn't be long, and then there would be heck to pay!

Solameya | She/Her | HRW
Solameya sighed as she looked on. At least the squabbling dragonets appeared to be trying to work things out, trying to. Another green was making her way through the candidates, but warning off people from getting too close. Look but don't touch. Fair enough!
Aaaaand the talks were over, one of the greens knocked one of the golden twins to the ground and the fight resumed. Her lips set in a tight line as she pondered how a solution could be reached. It wasn't always ideal, siblings exchanging blow for blow, but maybe the scrapping would get some of the animosity out. At the very least, it'd burn off some energy so that they might feel the draw of finding their bondmates. Hopefully. It'd be heartbreaking if a baby ended up dead, no matter the color.
Another green, er, half emerged and seemed to be expressing her distaste of the squabbling.
