Uki opened the door and in the blink of an eye was in the office, running in place. "Ukitiko Mitsumi, Sand Academy Graduate, and the fastest to add to that. I am at your service Kazekage sama." Uki was excited to be here, this is where he could actually start to prove himself for his village. Ukitiko was young and naiive but he had a good heart!

"Training is important, yes. Just don't hurt anyone, yeah?" the Bast addressing Doc and Manny responded to the former. "Have fun!"

Meanwhile, the other Bast in the Office was dealing with the energetic new recruit, a Genin whose boasting, for once, seemed justified. She couldn't figure out if he had tried some of the Lazyman's Brew from the Tea Shoppe or if there was something else going on with him. A quick glance over his information file confirmed the latter, but did not rule out the former.

"Welcome to the ranks of Sunagakure's Shinobi!" she congratulated him, tossing him the headband. "Someone as fast as you should have no problems finding your own niche around here. Do you want to dive right in to getting missions, learn Jutsu, socialize with your fellows, or some combination of the three?"

Catching the headband and without missing a beat he strung it around his neck. "Wooh! Kinda heavy huh?" Still jogging in place, Uki thought about what he wanted to do. The sensei at the academy said that he needed to focus more on training but since he just got here, Uki wanted to do something he loved, work! "Do you have any missions Kazekage sama? I'm pretty quick on my feet, and I can write exquisitely and *coughs* can forge a pretty good signature." Ukitiko was pretty confident in getting to work quickly, he never really did much else, no real time for friends, but that could change if he ever got assigned to a team.

"Quick on your feet, huh?" the Bast murmured while shuffling through papers. "I guess delivering the mail in the Residential District is right up your alley, then. While you're there, there's an old lady whose garden needs to be weeded, and, let's see... help clean the hot springs too, while you're out. If all that sounds fine, you can get your mail sack and the delivery route from the secretary downstairs. The old lady lives on the bottom story of the largest apartment complex, unit 102; she should be ready for you when you get there. The hot springs are a bit out of the way, but they should be easy enough to find. Sound good?"

"Ugh yeah, sounds just fine..." Ukitiko took the voucher for each mission. Looking at the vouchers, Uki stopped for a second and read all the directions. "So Deliver mail, pull weeds, and clean the hotsprings... Alright I'm off." Ukitiko ran off so fast that it left a little breeze of wind in the office. He quickly got down to the bottom floor where he grabbed his mail bag and started his great quest.

Uki ran back to the Kazekage's office and dropped off the mail bag he had been carrying. He sped up the stairs to the Kazekage's office where he knocked three times and headed through the door. "Done Kazekage sama." said Uki with breaths in between. He was feeling tired from doing everything, a good days work he would call this. The vouchers from each of the customers were in Uki's ninja bag on his belt. He pulled them forward and handed them to the Kazekage. "I hope I did you proud Kazekage sama."

Noticing that the Kazekage wasn't in at the moment, Uki wanted to work a bit more. "Oi, Kazekage sama, I'm gonna go work on some missions from the board and maybe learn a few jutsu, I'll be back later!" Ukitiko sped off down to the mission board and looked at a few missions that appealed to him but he had not done anything but worked since he graduated. It was time to train a bit. Ukitiko sped off to do a training mission alone without anybody around.

Ukitiko ran into the office building quickly running up the stairs and to the mission board, he saw the Jounin he had stolen the scroll from and walked up to him, "I... caught... the thief... here..." all out of breath Uki handed over the scroll and walked to the Kazekage's office. He pushed open the door without knocking. He stumbled to the cozy looking couch and plopped down, taking out a brush and a piece of paper that read (Kazekage sama, wake me up when you arrive, Ukitiko!) Uki then passed out on the couch exhausted.

It seemed like the Bast had chosen the wrong time to go fetch food, as it appeared the speedy Shinobi from earlier had been hard at work in her absence! She sat down at the desk, shuffled through a few mission requests, and pulled out a few that were less standard fare for Shinobi, but definitely good for public relations. The Kazekage cleared her throat noisily and would wait for Ukitiko to awaken before describing the new assignment.

"New mission," she would tell him curtly, tossing over the mission information files. "Short version: A snake pit has been uncovered outside the Shopping Superdome, the newspaper wants photos, and the snakes need to be exterminated or relocated. Long version: Some kid's pet snake escaped a while back and had babies. The newspaper's writing a story about the kid and the snakes, so it needs pictures of the snake pit in question to show just how far out of hand things have gotten and to spin some sort of pet responsibility moral. The pictures are the primary goal for them, but public safety requires the snakes be removed. Think you can handle it? After this you'll have some free time to learn Jutsu, socialize, or whatever else you want to do."

Ukitiko woke up quickly from the cat nap, but that was all he needed! Catching the papers and skimming them over, Uki couldn't help but hear the last part on friends and training. "Eto, Kazekage sama, I don't have any friends, and as far as training goes well, I suppose I could do that..." Uki wasn't used to all this wonderment on friends and strength. "But... I did, sort of learn a powerful jutsu on my own. But snake pit, and pets. Gotcha!" Ukitiko sped off towards the superdome and grabbed a camera on his way out.

Running quickly up to the Kazekage's office, Ukitiko walked in and put the three photos of the snake pit on the desk, one of the crowd and partial seeing of the snake pit, another of an up close and personal picture of the pit, and the last photo of the mother snake rising up from the snake pit. After placing the photos down, Uki dropped a medium sized squirming bag on top of the desk as well. "Like you ordered, three pics and a pet snake. But really why do shinobi do tasks that normal citizens could accomplish... probably because I haven't trained enough right, well I'll train as hard as I can Kazekage sama." Uki stood there wondering what the Kazekage would think of him.

Bast calmly went and brewed a cup of tea as soon as Ukitiko left, and was back at her desk just in time for him to return. She gave the drink a sip, prodded the bag with a pen, and then addressed the boy's questions.

"Hm... reasons? Well, there are a lot of them, but good press and a steady income are pretty high up there. Most people are not Shinobi, and most problems thus do not require the skills of a Shinobi. These jobs exist to put food on our plates and remind us that, not too long ago, we were normal people too." The woman took a long sip of tea, during which time the snake bag disappeared from her desk with a whooshing sound. When she finished her sip, she let out a long sigh and shook her head. "Sorry about that. I probably need a nap. You've got free time now. If you want to train, I'd suggest heading to the training grounds or the academy, where you'll usually find some of your fellow students also training. Jutsu scrolls are located in the library; you can check out up to C-Rank Jutsu as a Genin, B-Rank as a Chuunin, and so on, without permission from a higher-up. Don't mess up the scrolls, though, or the librarian will have your head!"

Ukitiko smiled and then frowned. He turned to leave but first "Thank you Kazekage sama." Ukitiko left the office, it was obvious even the Kazekage didn't know he had stolen a jounin scroll to learn a sealing jutsu. But Uki left the office to go work on some of his bloodline jutsu, he wasn't really to interested in friends that would probably forget he even existed due to all the work he would do. So for now Uki left to train alone behind the Dango shop.

XXXXXKiskue strolled through the village on his way to the Kazekage's office. His grey eye scanning everyone as he walked into the entrance of the building. As he entered he removed his hat and tucked it beneath his arm if anything Kisuke was respectful of others. He nodded to the woman who greeted him inside the door and turned to mount the stairs making his way toward the Kazekage's office.

XXXXXAt the top of the stairs Kisuke rapped gently on the door before pushing through. He was sort of surprised to see no one in the Kazekage's office but the man himself. "Slow day at the office huh?" Kisuke smiled to the Kazekage after his greeting, "I've come for my headband Kazekage-sama." Kisuke offered a bow and tightened his arm around his rice hat so it wouldn't fall to the ground.
