The Uchiha would spot nothing amiss with his Sharingan, no Genjutsu in place at all, at least not any he could detect with such an underdeveloped vessel. There was, however, sounds. Ones that both of them could hear, if only they were to be quiet and pay attention. Whispers soft as the wind, weight falling upon fragile leaves and branches, albeit gently. The cracks were slow, as if whoever stepped upon it was taking their time with each step. There was no breathing to be detected except for each others.
If their focus continued, the two would be able to see movement. Just barely. The reaction of peripheral vision detecting something that couldn't be seen but makes one know that something was just in motion. It wasn't speed or bad timing. In the next few moments, they'd discover that it was merely the form taken by those they were sent to investigate. There was nothing in hiding, the creatures were standing right there! Circling.
Although, with a tall forest that blocked out the sun with its many trees, how could one see a beast that made its home in shadow? As if to startle their newfound prey, the wolves began to growl, their sounds coming from the shadows of the trees, the smallest specks of red glints betraying their stealth.

Oh god they were glass wolves. Literal glass, or at least see through. Jesus christ. Quickly he put his back to Artemis, making sure both of them wouldn't get surprised from behind since there wouldn't be any behind left.
Getting into shooter stance he waited. Artemis tightened her grip on her brass knuckles as Atsuko backed up to her. She didn't want them to be caught unawares... wait, where those... ah, the glass wolves must be invisible. "How many do you think are here?" She whispered, in case anything louder when set them off already. She shivered at the sound of their growling, unsure of how many must be making that noise. She looked closer into the woods, realizing that small red dots revealed their position - though she couldn't say for sure if the red signified their eyes or another piece of their body. "Look for red flecks."

It was strange. When the girl spoke those last words of hers, a breeze through the forest carried the sound of what could be interpreted as a subtle snickering laugh. As if on cue, the wolves each closed their eyes, getting rid of the telltale way of knowing they were there...still, they interacted with nature. The sounds of their moving bodies, twigs continuing to be snapped with each step...the intervals between each step was getting smaller. They were moving in, but how obvious would it be to the two who never encountered such an enemy?
Technically speaking, neither group could use their eyes in that situation. The wolves gained the benefit through naturally enhanced senses. The only time the wolves would be seen was when two approached from the back of the Uchiha male to sink their fangs into both his hip and back, one leaping into the air to perform the latter. One of the other wolves made a mad dash towards Artemis, only appearing when it was about to bite into her ankle, to try and take her down. To drag her deeper into the forest if such an attack was successful.
It was time to start. Well his sharingan wouldn't be useful in some aspects it did help him with the movements of the wolves, or at least the signs they were there. Even if they were invisible they weren't weightless which betrayed somewhat of their positioning.
Mercury Round Activated (B Rank, +6 DR, From shooters stance and STR = A Rank)
His hands would light up with black flames as the wolves closed in for their own attacks. He didn't know how strong these things were but he wasn't about to risk getting taken down. Paying close attention to where their prints were and the sounds they made he'd fire off a blast of fiery chakra, six small orbs being fired off of his first like a shotgun blast into the first wolf. The second wolf would meet a similar attack that fired off of his second hand with a loud KABOOM.
Shotgun Fist Used (B Rank, +6 DR, From shooters stance and STR, = A Rank)
It was starting things off a bit more hardcore for a fight then naught but they had no clue just how strong these things were and Atsuko didn't know just how much support Artemis needed. His pet was keeping safe for now but would watch Artemis side carefully so that if she was in trouble he could let Atsuko know with a n** on the ear. Artemis channeled chakra into her fist, readying herself. She flinched when she felt Atsuko begin to fight. The paranoia she'd already been dealing with, paired with new-found adrenaline, compelled her to try and make a mess around her so that the wolves would either get covered in gravel or move it when they came close. She threw her fist into the earth, but instead of just punching up the ground, she smashed a glass wolf face and created a rippling effect, like a tiny earthquake. The wolf that had tried to n** at her feet was suddenly crushed beneath her fist. She immediately stood again, expecting the wolf to stay down. She dug her left hand into the knapsack on her back to find her knuckle busters, knowing the weapon would be an easier conduit for her chakra and consequently more powerful.
The flashes of light produced by Atsuko's strikes briefly illuminated the area and at the very least impacted their targets, though when the light was gone the wolves were once again part of the formless darkness. Artemis' fist hit dirt and sent up a spray of gravel, but she would feel neither a wolf being crushed under her hand nor teeth around her ankle. The gravel fell to the ground as normal after a short delay.
A wolf lunged out of the darkness toward Atsuko's left arm, fangs bared, while another came at him from behind, his side in its sights. A third bore its teeth at Artemis' thigh from her blind side. The movements of the earth under the wolves' feet would be masked by the hailstorm of gravel while the darkness masked the creatures' physical presence. Their eyes would open as they began their attacks, but that would be the only sign of their approach, as the hail of gravel seemed to slip through them.

Atusko wouldn't let these things get the better of them. It seemed their attacks were for naught, adding to the mystery of these things. They are the very least could makes themselves corporal. He kept to his fire hands but this time he would hold the appearance that he was letting his guard down on the wolves.
Keeping track as best he could to where the wolves were coming in he prepped his own attack. Boy oh boy was it going to suck to try this out. The wolf that went for his arm would be greeted surprisingly by getting it shoved out into its mouth, Atsuko waiting until he felt the searing pain of its teeth before his right arm shot around forward and fired off a bolt of black fire at the wolf point blank, twirling out of the way just barely to avoid the other wolfs attack.
There was a theory that Atsuko was trying to hold to these wolves. Well they had some sort of form to them visibility they tended to shift in between states, or at least he'd assume so. Purely physical attacks seemed to fade between them but at the same time when that happened any of their own attacks didn't hit either. Yet the wolves were still trying to bite them.
With this in mind it meant either their bites weren't meant to eat them and instead might have been feeding off their chakra, OR the wolves were waiting until they were able to sink their teeth in without getting hit in return. Chakra attacks seemed to be helping but both he and Artemis were at a loss for anything concentrated.
These were the thoughts and reasoning behind his current attack. His sharingan helped him keep track of things a bit better so the situation was unfolding, though by not a large margin, a bit slower in his eyes. If he was figuring these things out right then hopefully he'd trade a bitten arm for a dead wolf.
If he got that far as well he would be able to tell Artemis. Speaking of which he could only pray that she was able to fend on her own until they figured these things out. Atsumo was of no help to them right now nor would he even risk putting his pet out in the open. This entire even he'd take to heart as a reason he'd train hard once they made it out of this damn forest.

Artemis grunted through her teeth when her attack failed against the beasts. She didn't have time to feel disappointed or underperforming when she heard wolves move towards her partner. She knew he was handling himself well when she didn't hear any cries of pain form him, though she wasn't able to put her guard down just yet. Chakra flooded her arm and was concentrated into her left fist, where it pooled until it was channeled into an extended blade on her brass knuckles. She dropped her left hand as she brought her right up to brace against anything that aimed for her front upper body. Instead, her left hand jerked against an obstruction as the extended blade hit it--
A wolf mouth over her thigh. She yelped more out of surprise than pain as she shook her hand upwards just to slam it back down to the wolf head, though she could tell from the sudden hot-cold sensation that her skin was punctured from the beast's teeth. "I hope they send a search party out for our bodies." Her whole body felt much warmer, from the natural adrenaline reaction and the shock of drawing blood.
Not to mention the lecture she'd get from a certain teammate about getting hurt... freakin' medics.

One wolf skittered into darkness while the other two managed to bite their targets. Their teeth left ragged wounds that oozed blood and hurt quite substantially, but they weren't especially disabling in the short term. The pair's attacks successfully dislodged their assailants, with Atsuko's scrambling off frantically while still glowing from the fiery blast and Artemis' limping back and rejoining the shadows.
The smoldering wolf let out a ragged bark and sprinted toward Atsuko, but dove between his legs at the last moment. The uninjured wolf circled around the duo and sprinted through Artemis' legs before whipping around and snapping its jaws at Atsuko's side, putting itself between the pair.
There it was, proof in the pudding. It was all about timing and it looked as though Artemis had figured it out around the same time he did which was perfect. Now they could go on the attack without hesitating against these things.
Ducking down after the wolf had sprinted between his legs he prepped an attack and waited until the wolves actually went to bite, only watching them up until that point. When the one did move in it meant that he'd face it and unload a powerful overhand strike [Mortar Shell Used] directly into the wolves face. Even if his hand was bitten he had more then enough force and fire to make the wolf regret that.
Right now it was all about survival. These wolves were fast, and numerous, but they didn't seem so keen on getting hit. If they were on the intelligence level of animals to all the pair needed to show was they weren't about to be pushed around and that THEY were the dominant pair.
Beyond the current fight Atsuko was thinking a bit more as to where these things had come from and just how many more there were. He wasn't convinced that they were strong, after all he and Artemis might have been trained but they weren't at a high skill level just yet. Perhaps these wolves were just a scouting party or the smaller ones and they hadn't stumbled across the big one yet.
Hopefully it wouldn't come to that. Atsuko knew they'd be lucky just to leave this fight without to many injuries, let alone tackle something that much bigger then they were. The wolves pulled back, and they survived another minute of this oddly timed onslaught. She caught her breath in time for the next wave to attack, these two darting between legs. When one feinted her, she brought her fist down with chakra charged in it, hoping to finally shatter one of these glass beasts.
Atsuko's attack passed right through the wolf as it slipped away, but the one attacking Artemis wasn't so lucky; it hit the ground hard after her fist crunched into its head, then went limp. A strangeld howl echoed out of the shadows, then the two remaining--severely injured--wolves charged in with little tact or forethought. The smoldering one would jump toward Artemis' face with its teeth bared while the other lunged drunkenly for her thigh. Their aim wasn't great and the attacks wouldn't land exactly where they wanted, but they were still beasts, with all of the danger that brought with it.

They were winning the fight and Atsuko felt it was drawing near finally to some sort of close. With no wolf attacking him he'd immediately watch Artemis's side, picking out which wolf was the most threat and waiting.

Artemis' eyes widened as Atsuko shot fire into the wolf coming for her face. Her gaze fell on her other opponent, a growling wolf coming straight for her leg. Feeling a bit exhausted from all of the techniques she had been using, she elected to spin on the foot the wolf wasn't aiming for so it would fly right past her, in a manner similar to a man teasing a bull with a red cloth.
