Really? Maybe he could! Reyinath gave a happy bugle. Maybe, maybe this would be the day he won Avroth's heart. I will do my best, sweet gold! I hope the best dragon catches you. Whatever color. Whoever that dragon was.

He certainly wasn't quick enough to catch her. He overshot, suitably distracted.

Rixth chuckled to himself, an audible cluck that no one could hear past the rushing winds. He saw Fianth again only when she was high above him, but the bronze wasn't bothered. There was plenty of time to catch up.

Besides being strong, he purred, putting on an effortless burst of speed to climb after her, I am well-traveled and have greater stories to tell than any of your other—

He honked in alarm as Krah streaked past once more, his claws a little too close for comfort. Rixth took a moment to make sure he hadn't been grazed before getting back on track, slowed a smidge by the near-assault.

You will never be bored while I am around... though I have a feeling you already were not. Krahsujunth is very... surprising.

Avroth was trying, he really was. He didn't understand, he had been so close the entire time with Uridith, were these other dragons just so much more superior to his competition in the last Gold Flight he joined or had he just been lucky then? or was he struggling because of something within him, he was losing confidence in himself, that's when the shining gold dived.. from behind him.... she'd been hiding, waiting. Oh she was tricky but she was wonderful, his hearts leaped and thudded at her encouragement and he gave a bugle to her, folding his wings in and trying to dive with her.

He heard Iptoneth and was gladdened, the support from a fellow rival was just as important to him "and you with your queen Iptoneth" He truly wished the other well, when the bronze left the main chase behind, it was good to have a love. For a moment Avroth's hearts stung with the loss of his own weyrmate, someone whom he'd never have been able to have a clutch with even had he survived the return of Threadfall and felt even more strongly about wanting to catch Fianth and give Krah the clutch he couldn't have with her normally, he didn't care right then if the clutch never knew him as their blood, he just wanted to give the blue children to care for and love.

Speaking of the Blue, he had been so busy concentrating on diving for Fianth, he hadn't noticed Krah diving at HIM... he opened his wings and dodged the furious blue, losing some ground on Fianth as he did so. "Peace Krahsujunth please, i wish only to give you hatchlings to care for" he begged of the blue as he levelled out low to the ground in the chase.

see above for rp response to this when i put it there

1 - The furious blue comes streaking towards you, claws outstretched! You manage to duck out of the way of his strike, but it costs you a bit of movement. -2 to total score.

2 - Pain lances through you as Krahsujunth's teeth sink into a softer patch of flesh. You trumpet alarm and manage to pull free, but you've fallen a bit behind in the process! -6 to total score.

3. Out of nowhere the blue swoops in, flying right into your path. For a moment you think you can duck around him, then CRACK! Like a whip his tail snaps out, striking across your snout! -3 to total score.

4. You edge a bit too near to the blue for his liking, and he snarls a warning at you. Thankfully, another rival catches his eye at just that moment, and you're spared the feel of his claws...for now.

Irath replied, giving a loud, long trill as he twisted and dove down, spiraling after the queen.

He riffled through his memories considering the songs his rider sang backed by the small fair of firelizards and his own deeper rumbles and finally settled on one. He hummed softly, changing the lyrics to suit a bit more, letting the thrill of a violin and the trills of the flits sound in the background.

Irath cut off, swerving away from Krahsujunth as the blue swung by.

What kind of gossip takes your fancy my dear? Something slightly scandalous? Or perhaps a silly little bit? There's always the incredible that gets larger with each telling. The webbed marked brown had been loafing in the back. He had lots of little bits that he could offer to interest the queen. It all depended upon where her interests lay.

Out from the clouds he saw the gold plummet toward the craggy rocks of the mountains below. Being at the rear had it's advantages after all. He nosed over and folded his wings. Falling was much easier.

With his rider egging him on, Severith put forth some extra effort. It paid off. A bit too well. He had managed to move up a bit into the pack. Right into the path of the chasing blue. For a moment he thought he would be able to avoid Krah. The sharp sting of the tail whipping across his muzzle though made his eyes flash red and instinctively he snapped at the offending tail with a roar.

She danced, she dove, this queen was not afraid to show the way that she dazzled off to the world and unabashed by how nearly all of it was intended for one. If anything that filled him with some amusement and joy, for staying would never be an option to him, so many dragons would overwhelm him in ways that they were nearly threatening to now. Some might call him wicked things for his past actions and violently crass nature, but Zioneth was who he was and wasn’t afraid or ashamed of his actions as at least one other chasing in the sky seemed to be. Today he rose for Fianth and no other name was on his mind, no other form dancing in the background of his mind as so clearly seemed to be affecting a certain bronze. Yes, he had caught and carried Ariath on her maiden flight, but her understanding had been just as impressive as he’d expected and the gold had not asked him once to stay as he’d rode off with his rider.

Though there may have been one softer spoken set of words than his normally aggressive tone that had passed between them. For she had been young.

Dipping through the clouds, thoughts totally focused on following the glowing beauty that was Fianth, Zioneth twisted and turned his body to follow, amazed at the stunts she was pulling off and his ability to keep up with them. Normally he was the least of acrobatic dragons, nothing but a flying rock with rocks for brains, but a gold that tempted him could change all that. Yours is the only opinion that mattered from the moment your call first left. Those caught up in the past or other queens are fools to think of anything but you. Let it never be said that a queen couldn’t be inspiring, even to a dragon as ill tempered and rock-headed as he.

Oh, but it appeared that Iptoneth’s mouth just wouldn’t close, for there was that pompous string of ever assuming words again. As if it were his fault the bronze hadn’t been strong or fast or skilled enough to catch his beloved “mate” all those turns ago when she’d first risen. I MISSED NOTHING WITH ARIATH. WHO WAS IT THAT WAS THERE TO CATCH HER? CERTAINLY NOT YOUR WEAK WINGS, BUT TO ASK ME TK STAY AND HELP A WEYR SLAVE RAISE A NEW BATCH OF SLAVES? SHE MADE NO MISTAKE THAT DAY, SHE CHOSE THE STRONGEST TO CARRY HER BACK DOWN, BUT SHE WAS A FOOL TO STAY IN A WEYR. Zioneth snarled, making certain his words were leveled at Iptoneth alone. He didn’t need to arise the ire of the gold he was chasing by appearing distracted during her display. WHY NOT SHUT YOUR FAT GOB ABOUT YOUR BLOODY STUPID MATE AND FLY STRAIGHT AFTER THE ONLY GOLD THAT MATTERS RIGHT NOW? AND I’M THE DISRESPECTFUL ONE!

With a snort he surged ahead after the gold once more, grateful at least that it was only Iptoneth who’s mouth was still wagging rather than two of them. Bunch of brainwashed fools!

He restrained his eager jump to the request to mere radiation of delight. And now, as Fianth took them through the glorious mountains, he had all the vistas to stimulate his muse. Surely he could make something with words as good as he could his music! And seeing the pure drive Krahsujunth showed, the primal aura he radiated...This time, if not any others, he deserved to hear his gift to the queen as well.

(Gulp.)

There was time for Argoth to compose, as he had to focus after the sudden plunge. Thankfully he avoided dashing himself on the rocks, but that didn't mean he could leisurely navigate either. Certainly not with the stormy blue eager to tear into any unwary hide in his grasp. The fall seemed to help him some as his bulk finally got put to use, giving him the momentum to swing after the gold, large wings beating regularly. If he couldn't wow them with his physical prowess like those further up front, he had to work as hard as Krah did physically with his words.

He did not know of the secret messages between the pair; intimacy that burned so beautifully like that was only imaginable in his songs. But how couldn't one sing about that love, even without Fianth's request for something sweet? Though no, "sweet" wasn't the right word for this. He was no word smith, but he was going to try. Her hearts may not sing for his song, but his certainly did. Perhaps, rather than try to trip over his words on the fly...

Argoth tried something new: he tried to paint a picture for the two of them as he sang. It seemed better than attempting to put it to words, when feelings were so much easier to send, mix, and embellish.

A stormy sky above the mountains they flew, dangerous and full of lightning, wind, and water. Jagged and bright teeth of them struck out at the flight of dragons, some whose shadows fell away, others who staggered but continued on, and some very few who dodged. The dragons themselves were barely more than colors and noise, deep and high and colorful and desiring, desiring just one simple thing: to see the pale winged star shining through an open patch of dark sky. Ichor fell like rain, but still the hunt would move on. It was revelry: excitement, lust, purpose given form and hope, the urge to challenge and rise above. It was bittersweet: duty, acceptance, anger at what cannot be changed, wrath at the unworthy and that which cannot be ripped down. It was base instinct weaponized into action, bugles and howls and keens sharpened by tooth and claw, the battering of body against body against the very aether itself, and more still that Argoth could not define. It was the siren call of a queen who was both leader and prize, who tended to them with the kindness of a mother and the ready paw of a predator. It was the whole of these suitors being set against a whetstone of a blue to be sharpened to a fine point, to give only whom was best among them. It was he who would cut Fianth, and in that wound their blood would mix to create something better than themselves.

It was a war song, and Fianth and Krahsujunth were conquerors.

~ ~ ~

Ulix smirked and, quite simply, began to push his way towards Olliah. Argoth's powerful imagery swept through him, and he egged it on with unabashed pride. The other suitors weren't there, frankly; or if they were, they were simple obstacles to force out of his way. He had no will to play coy or courteous. In flightlust, if you saw an opportunity, you took. The problem was getting the weyrwoman second on board, but he foresaw no real problem unless someone interfered. Or Argoth somehow upset the queen.

"I can make you sing next," the man said with a rogueish smile and a promise in his voice, with a similar attitude to the way he moved to take her shoulder, "so that they all hear. But I'm perfectly fine with private performances. too."

Picassath thrummed from Fianth's attention and he would have to keep doing well to keep it! He was determined to do so. Her hide was so pretty though, the delicate pattern...he started imagining how he would picture her if he got his to paint the beautiful gold. In doing so, he lost some of his momentum and found himself slipping more towards the back. Gasp he imagined what his rider did when he got surprised. My dear Fianth, you must forgive me. Here I was saying I'd give you my all and then I started imagining you as a painting and I have fallen back some. I hope you'll forgive me. She seemed the forgiving type, at least he hoped so. He'd hate for his romantics to have cost him any chance he might have had!

He had unintentionally touched a nerve with Krah. The brown shifted to avoid the blue, giving him an apologetic look. He'd apologize later. For now, there was a gold to chase. He gave a surge, trying to catch up. No effort was used on trying to talk, now, as that was sure to only get him into more trouble and claws raking his body and wings.
