The first of that evening's inevitable parade of visitors had shown up, and it was none other than Ayame and Daichi. Bast took a long sip of tea while Daichi situated his head in her lap, then gave him a quick scratch behind the ears.
"Long time no see, Ayame," the Kazekage greeted the Hatake. "Care for a drink? The sun was rather hot earlier today, and it isn't fun trying to report with a dry mouth. Some lemonade, perhaps? Gin? Sodium pentothal? Bittersweet nightshade tea? The tears of our vanquished foes?"
The pen swarm filed back into the Office in a rippling wave of wood, brass, and ink, presumably to catch up on the ungodly amount of paperwork that had piled up in recent months.

I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.
Kaori and Nova silently walked into the Kazekage's office and looked around at the gathered people, there were more than she was expecting to be honest. She nudged Nova and went to go sit in a corner, a little away from everyone, but within sight of her superiors in case she was called on to speak. Nova, however, just went up and laid on the floor near Daichi and rumbled, the tiger equivalent of a purr, since they couldn't actually purr like house cats could. Kaori barely resisted the urge to hit herself in the face at her partner's blatant nonchalance about personal space. She really hoped a fight wouldn't break out, especially here of all places.
'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.
As Shinobi lined up around her makeshift desk outdoors, she quietly created a few couches and chairs for people to sit on. She wondered if the creator of Uitenpen had ever fathomed it would be used to create furniture, and if they would be upset now that it was.
"Alright, everybody," she called over the din, "welcome back and all that. Now if someone could tell me what happened, that would be fantastic. Any deaths? Massive property damage? Treasure? Pirates?"
It was a good thing they were outside, or the multitude of people and large beasts would have made the Office unbearably hot. She drank the cup of tea that San passed her before returning to her skull cup. At least, she thought, it was nice out.

"The mission was a success. All civilians were evacuated with minimal injuries on their end. However one of our genin fell into the water near the boat and couldnt swim. We were unable to get to her in time. I believe Doc was able to get her breathing again, but as she was part of my squad, I will accept the responsibility of the loss of the potential shinobi in our ranks..." Aika said as she crossed her arms behind her back.

Didnt know how to swim? that was literally like one of the first things they were taught...i mean manny chopped the water with his sword but he still knew how to do it at least. Well...if that was the only casualty and aika had to handle it...then she had indeed performed well...

Once Aika finished speaking, Theodin stepped forward, he couldn't let aika take all the blame for kumiko's accident. "Lady Kazekage, While what Aika said about the mission being a success is completely true, it went great with barely any injuries to the civilians, I can't let her take sole responsibility for the accident with the genin from our squad. I was the one that got to her first and pulled her out of the water. I tried everything I could think of to revive her until Doc and James got there, but none of what I did worked. Maybe if I could've gotten there a little faster......anyway, whatever the consequences are, I think some of the blame for how that situation ended rests on my shoulders as well." with that said, theodin stepped back slightly, touching his knuckles together behind his back.

Bast's jovial attitude vanished almost immediately when it turned out that there had, in fact, been a near-death for one of her Shinobi. When that information came to light, her blood ran cold, and she was unnaturally quiet and still during the explanation and subsequent apologies. The desert sun, once a welcome reprieve from endless hours of artificial lighting, grew much too hot on her skin. The wind sliced through her like a knife. Her hand would feel as cold and hard as stone to Daichi. After taking a few seconds to collect herself, she placed her cup on the makeshift stone desk and opened her mouth to speak.
"First, I would like to congratulate you all on a mission well-done. The removal of an enemy from our dominion is truly something to be celebrated," she praised the group, her voice level. "You were sent to do a job, and not only that, but one where the threat of death was real; you were sent in as Shinobi of the Hidden Sand. The burden of trust placed on you was great, as it will continue to be from here on out, and at the bare minimum it was expected the job be handled competently. Dying in combat is one thing, but for someone to have a brush with death due to incompetence or neglect dishonors every single person who helped them get to where they are."
The woman took a deep breath. She could feel a knot of anger forming in her stomach, but she suppressed it as best she could.
"If anyone else was nearby when we almost lost a Shinobi, step forward now. Punishment for this failure will be determined after I've received a full run-down of the mission. Anyone who has no business with either of those is dismissed."

"Oh I know nothing about this almost death. However, I've got a few figures on property damage." Knives chuckled tossing one of his remaining special bottles in his hands ignoring the apparent sudden drop in mood from Bast. To Knives death was nothing new, considering his basically inhuman thirst for blood at times.

Kaori stood then and stepped closer to her fellow Shinobi in front of the Kazekage, "Nova and I were just coming to the docks when we were informed of the downed shinobi, Lady Kazekage. We took the message to James." She told the Kazekage in her usual calm voice, she held her arms behind her back, and wrapped her fingers around her elbows. Nova lifted her large head and bobbed it in a nod at the Kazekage before she nudged at Daichi with a paw, then batted at his tail almost playfully. Kaori shook her head at Nova's behavior, now was not the time to play. Nova looked up at her partner, then let out an upset sound before she stood and trotted up to Kaori's side and sat at her feet, but even sitting, Nova was up to Kaori's shoulders.
