Location: Lake Leonette’s smile never faltered as Elsie admitted she was in fact nervous. Maybe she was better at figuring out how others were feeling then she thought. “It’s nice to meet you too Elsie.” She said realizing that she had found just who she’d been looking for at least that’s what it sounded like with the name and all. Turning her attention to Tanya it seemed that both Elsie and this girl knew each other. Leonette sure wished she had have meet some of her classmates before coming to Hogwarts. Sadly she only met older students. “Hello,” Leonette replied giving a small wave to Tanya. “Yeah the more the merrier.” She agreed. “Is your sister friends with a girl named Chloe?” Leonette asked Elsie. "Action-oriented? she asked her curiosity perked. Chess was a game of patterns, which made it a game she actually struggled at. She had been forced, along with the rest of her former school mates to learn it, but she had continued with it determined to master it. She still hadn't. "How can Chess be anymore action packed?" she asked chuckling imagine for a moment that when you move a chess piece there were sounds of horses, or maybe when you took a piece sounds of swords and shields meeting. That could get quite noisy. [{o.o.C }]

✖✖- - -Listening in on the conversation, Kas debated on whether or not he should try to jump in and join. He mulled the prospect over in his head for a while, until they finally touched down on the notion of action-packed chess.
"They move."
Kas continued, smiling sheepishly as if to say 'sorry' for the interruption. "The pieces, I mean. And they demolish each other. I don't think anyone has ever played a game of wizarding chess without emerging from it with a complete set. They fight, basically, when you make a move and occasionally, have been known to swear. It's quite entertaining, if a bit uncomfortable when you have to dodge the airborne pieces."

"They move?!" Cat exclaimed, "Seriously? So it's like an actually battle? That is so...bloody amazing!"For a moment she imaged little figured men smashing each faces and cursing. She figured it would sound something like the pub down the street from her flat. It was a wonder what magic could do. How did the magic work? Was there a special spell that only Wizarding chess makers knew to cast to make them move? They must also have personality of a sort...Which had to make letting get smashed rather painful or was it a benefit? Then another more peculiar question popped into her head, "Wait, you said there are rarely complete sets. Don't they just magically fix themselves or something?" [{o.o.C }]

Actually, that's a really good explanation. David smiled at Kas's explanation, impressed at how well it was explained. He always appreciated a good explanation and it made him like the boy more. "Indeed," David said, smiling, "Wizard Chess... far more my taste than Quidditch. I don't believe in unnecessary putting oneself in harms way-goes against my intelect as a future healer. Besides, how much brains does it take to hit a bludger?"

✖✖- - -Kas nodded in answer and thought over Catharine's question, trying his best to explain. "Some of them have built-in charms, I think," he thought back to the chess set he had at the Manor and tried to remember, tapping his chin lightly. "The one I used before did- - - after a game, I think it had a timer, it would repair itself again. If it doesn't then a simple Reparo should work equally as well, I should think."
He smiled that crooked little smile of his again. "And I find myself agreeing with David on that note. Wizard's chess is infinitely more educational than Quidditch and a lot more sedentary as well." Laughing at himself, he continued, "Actually, the sedentary aspect is what drew me in. However, don't let Quidditch bias your view on brooms. When not zooming at illogical speeds with the prospect of possible injury, riding a broomstick is one of the best experiences there will be in this school."

Good, I have agreement. David listened as Kas explained, he should have remembered that, then again he grew up only occasionally around magic. Reparo of course would work on something that simple. When Kas said don't let Quidditch views bias his views on brooms he raised a brow as he listened to Kas's explanation. "I'll have to take your word that riding a broomstick is an enjoyable experience. Or at least for now," David said. "Again, something I never did... fly on a broom. I'm still more interested in the coursework. Third year we can take healing as an elective, now that I am looking forward to."

"Well, I can't challenge on how much knowledge it takes to hit a bludger, since I only vaguely know what you're referencing. However it's pretty hard to hit a moving object. I tried to play cricket once...terrible idea. People got hurt. Mainly my ego," she shook her head sadly thinking over the failure that had been. The hand to eye coordination needed had been lacking that day. Continuing, she jokingly asked, "You think less of those who try to save others than? Like Officers and such?" Listening to Kas she nodded, she figured that Reparo might work. Though would it damage the spells that caused movement and seeming personality? Animated objects...how wonderfully creative magic can be. Then David opened his mouth and Catharine fought not to roll her eyes. She glanced at him and said in a joking tone, "We got almost spent a full minute without talking about future job. Amazing!
Nah, I'm joking. Though seriously I can't even begin to choose what I want to do for third year. I'm just hoping to get through my first. I know-," she said preempting what she assumed David would say, "It's only a mere 2 years from now, but I'll be a bit more fluid in my possible electives and see what interests me. Though I know a head of time...I'm avoiding Care of Magical Creatures." [{o.o.C }]

✖✖- - -He grinned in amusement at Catherine's sharing of her reminiscing.
The redhead nodded again in acknowledgement. "Flying classes will come around soon one way or another. In my opinion, flying classes are just there to gauge who would make a good addition to the House teams. Recreational flying is something I enjoy, however." He looked over at David and smiled. "You should try it, then." A short laugh escaped him again. It was quite obvious really what David would have taken for his electives.
Propping a fist under his chin, he thought it over. "They said we could opt for two electives. I'm planning on Ghoul and Ghost studies myself." he mused, thinking of the Madam back at the Manor. Maybe he could learn something that would help him out, or make him more comfortable during his stay, anyhow. "I'll keep my options open for the second one, but Healing does sound appealing. If I live that long, it'd be nice to become a Potions Master." Turning to Catherine, his grin widened. "Not good with animals, then?"

Good, I have agreement. "Putting yourself in harms way to protect others isn't called sport," David replied seriously. He listened to Kas discuss the electives he was interested in and thought Ghoul and Ghost studies while it might be somewhat interesting was an odd choice. David figured that Cursebreaking would be his second option and knowing him a third or fourth elective wasn't entirely out of the question. When Catharine joked about him talking about the future he said, "Hey, remember who gave up his cloak to keep you warm Miss I'm going to skin the furriest thing in the Dark Forest and cuddle up with it." Catharine beat David to the punch with his lecturing about being prepared for the future. She was smart.

♂First Year♂Unsorted♂Half-Blood♂Single♂Wearing♂ Joshua didn't notice the girl until it was too late. The instant her hands touched his face, the boy's eyes became virtual black holes of rage. "Don't. Touch. Me. Ever again." He pushed her hands away, glaring daggers. He watched her walk to the boats, then she called him... silly. He stormed to the boat, growling. "I am not silly, you twit. You should, perhaps, never speak again. I, for one, would be better off." He glared off into the distance, before realizing he was in a boat. This... was not okay! {OoC:}

Echo, not being fond of crowds, had hung back a bit, intending to keep track of Tanya and rejoin her when things thinned out. Unfortunately, many of the older students towered over the two first year's heights, and he'd lost her almost instantly. He'd had to wind through the crowd, being pushed into bodies and bumping into all manner of people, all of which he responded to by keeping his head down and murmuring a quiet 'excuse me.' He'd finally made his way to the lake and the boats, and approached Tanya, recognizing Elsie standing with her, and another girl that he didn't recognize. His cheeks flushed ever so slightly. He didn't always do so well meeting new people... he'd totally lucked out by making friends with Elsie. Tanya had been... well, he supposed he had Gypsy to thank for that, a thought that didn't exactly make him happy. "Um, hey, Tanya, Elsie. Glad I found you guys. Got sort of lost in the crowd." He flushed again, looking at the other girl. "Um... hi, I'm, uh, I'm Echo." His feet shuffled nervously, and his head tilted down a bit. He hoped they took off soonish. He wanted to get this over with.

Catharine couldn't help it she laughed. It was short and not very loud more a chuckle than full laugh, but it felt good. After all the tension of worrying whether she belonged there at all. It eased her nerves and oddly enough made her feel more at ease with her situation. Still smiling, she snuggled into the cloak as she said, "For chivalry you get to freeze that is how it is. Though just to warn. I wouldn't go into the Dark Forest. I'd hate for you try and skin a werewolf or some other nasty thing."She tried to keep her tone light, but she was already recalling what she had read about werewolves and other creatures that might lurk in places like the Dark Forest. Remember what she had read about, she shuddered, "Truth is, it's the beast that decided it. I read through Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, as well as a few others and they settled my mind for me.
Red caps, Vampires, Boggarts and the like. Red cap in particular since I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple when I went out of the city once with my mother. I can't remember everything at the time I hadn't a clue if what I had seen was true, but there was a dog. Poor thing seemed lost and they beat it. Trust me, my nightmare about the incident didn't get any better once I learned what they were," she said remember in flashes the small dog lazily trotting through the marshy mess then small red dots began to move at a blurring speed, the sound cracking and the dog's yelp. She had run to get help, but when she had returned they only found the beaten dog. It had lived, but after that she'd been more wary of getting lost in such places. She shook her head, "I don't want to know how to care for such creatures. I want to know how to stop them for hurting others. Thus my interest in Defense against the Dark Arts. I'm sure we'll cover protection against magical creatures." [{sorry I took so long}]

✖✖- - -The remark she had made about chivalry amused him.
Catharine would probably make a fine Auror, he thought, contemplating what he had gathered from their brief time. He didn't know if that line of work would be what he would expect from someone like her, but it was the first thing that really came to mind. He could be wrong, though. Maybe a more specialized sort of position? Turning back to the conversation, he put in his own two cents again.
"It's understandable. Had I been in your position, I would have felt as such," he remarked. "What do you plan to be in the future, though? Have you thought about it? I imagine it would have made a few changes, since a lot of possibilities would have opened up for you."
