"well his dad killed a skinwalker, it's the skull he wears as a mask, as a reminder to himself of how short life really can be. and his sister has always been a better hunter than him, having killed a kalona that she wears as a helmet essentially, on her first Away Hunt. So to prove himself he left the family, and vowed not to come back until he had found or done something worth while. Right now he's still caught up with Fathom (the blue kalona I showed you the other day), but im still not sure if he';; know about becoming a father, so after her plots he will be on his own again, and I think from here on he will begin to plot about how he can manage to kill himself a skinwalker to prove himself to his father. At the very least his attempts will be sloppy at first and he will get hurt along the way by other skinwalkers and fail, but maybe I will eventually have him kill one that he can bring back to Rainart. If not, at that point he will have to find something else to be worthy or else he may end up turning darker and joining with those he could not defeat

Because depending on how he comes out of the relationship with Fathom, (and perhaps later events with other SW's), he will either come out of this not liking SW's (as he does now) and becoming a better person (so to speak), or he will be misguided and manipulated until he believes the opposite and becomes essentially a SW's pet/follower/ally"

Anyway, what I have so far for Acanthus is that he left his parents and sister when he hit adulthood to go for his first Away Hunt, which is basically the trial into adulthood from his Father where he must go out and bring back a trophy of some sort. Thing is, he's not as good a hunter as his sister, and never has been. So after much internal debate about his crappy hunting skills (mind you, he still hunts to eat, but he's not always suave or silent and often gets distracted or bored when hunting bigger game), he comes to the decision that the only thing he could bring home to prove to his father that he is a strong stallion would be to bring a skinwalker's pelt home with him. Though a pelt is rather strange as Rainart usually keeps the Skull, or else other bones if the skull is too damaged, it would be something more Acanthus' style, something of his own, really.
(He also believes that Rainart will believe he is a failure if he does not come home with a trophy, but Rainart loves his son no matter what, but Acanthus does not know that.)
So he cannot go home until he has the pelt of a Skinwalker. Which means... he has to kill one.
