Akari_32 Put the fish in the tank, they'll be ok. You have to remember that they are shipped across the country (or atleast the state), so they can handle more then you think. I would get a new filter, but save that one incase you need it. Leave it running as long as you can. If you have to turn it off, then just hook an air pump up to the tank and do water changes every couple of days untill you get a new one. Cant wait for pics! True, the noise doesn't seem to be spooking them as much as seeing me lol. They're anxious to escape the bag. I'm worried about them jumping out the small gap at the back of the lid where the filer and heater are. I have the water level kind of high for the sensitive filter I'll try to take some out without upsetting it. As for the fish. I don't want to say what I decided on yet cause I want to show you just why I decided on them lol. With the lights off and me gone most of tomorrow, you'll just have to sit in suspense. But take comfort in the fact that even I haven't been able to get a great look at them yet. I do believe and will say this. I have two males and one female... I think The employee said it's best to have more males than females and was confident sexing them so according to him lol, two boys and a girl. Not sure about names yet. I was originally thinking Huey Louie and Duey lol. I think I can do better though.

T.T T.T T.T If we're talking about ivebearers (like Platies), you'll actually want more females then males because male livebearers fight over females, and can chase and bother the females to death. Other then that, as long as they arent too fiesty, it shouldnt really matter what gender ratio you have lol Cant wait! I'm dying!!!!!!!! gonk

Aww Gabs! I'd send you one of my extra filters but they're all rated for 10g so it probably wouldn't help.
Usually you want more females than males that way the males don't harass the females or compete with each other to the point of death, but we'll know more when we find out what fish you have.

K I had to take a video cause they were just too damn cam shy. I'm at work now so will upload it when I get home.
Here's my question though. I got fishy Friday, put em in tank late Friday night. Sunday morning ammonia is still zero. Does this mean I can proceed with more fish?

Here they are! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oZWILxCqL4for now they're just the "dumb blondes" one of em, the boy actually I think. Has swallowed some of the rope I used to tie the plants. He's swimming around with rope sticking out of his mouth gonk I tried to grab it but he's too quick.

Looked like from the vid you had 2 females and a male but they were moving too fast to get a good look. Just look at the a**l fins to tell the difference.

I've tried but like you say they're too fast. I think I might loose one. The idiot chewed on some string that was tying my plants down. He's been swimming around with it sticking out of his mouth but mostly just hiding and being very quiet sad

Ok, yup, it is indeed two girls and one boy. The one with the red tail is indeed the boy. He's the idiot that swallowed the string but I was able to catch him and pull it out and he's doing fine now. Yellow and orange tails are the girls.
They are really loving all the hides lol, I think I may have put TOO many cause I don't see the fish themselves all that much. Tank is still looking kind of empty can't wait for more fish. May or may not add 1-2 more platties.
oh, would it be possible to MAKE a breeding net or would I have to buy one. I was thinking rather than using the spare tank and having to buy another heater, the tank is pretty big a breeding net would be neat if I could save just 1-2 babies rather than go out and buy them. Not that anyone is pregnant yet.
I also still don't have any actual names, though I'm not sure if anyone ever names their schoolers. For now they're just the dumb blondes. They like to try to swim up the filter current and attack the air stone lol. Plus the stupid boy nearly killed himself.

They are so cute, Gabby! I'm glad you got what you want =3
You can make your own breeders net, though it might just be cheaper to buy one. To make one, you just need plastic canvas, two suction cups and either silicone or really small zip ties. I suppose fishing line could work too, instead of zip ties.
I would just buy one, though lol

There's not as much water flow but in a pinch you can cut a 2 liter bottle in half, poke holes in the bottom and secure it to the top with a paperclip or something.

hmm I like Nilla's idea lol. If I poke A LOT of little holes idea If I see a cheap breeding net though I'll get it.
Thanks guys, I really spent a long time looking at different schoolers and I found that the platties always grabbed my attention the most. Like everything else I saw I'd be like, ya, that's nice, I could get those, and the hawaii platties was just WOW... THEY"RE SO YELLOW! xd Plus the contrast with the black and red, biggrin Yup, very glad I found these. Next up is the pleco and then I gotta decide female or male betta! I'm dreading that a bit lol.
