It was another beautiful day in Soleil... Leon awoke early and went to his study, where he worked on writing the manuscript for his latest book. After a while, however, his attention had started to wane. He hated being cooped up inside on a perfect day like this. Not to mention, Molly was getting quite restless - she needed a walk. Leon figured that some fresh air and exercise would do them both some good... so he clipped a leash onto the golden retriever's collar and headed outside. As he walked, he looked for things that would inspire him in writing the latest chapter of his novel. He was introducing a new character - a girl who would later turn out to be a mermaid... He planned for her to become an important character in the series. He needed to come up with a backstory for her, however, and he was fresh out of ideas. He hoped to find something on his walk that would inspire him...
Leon and Molly made their way to the Cerise shopping district. Most of the same shops he remembered from his childhood were still standing... Except for one. Where a costume shop used to be, there was now an establishment called 'Pezzle's Potions'. "Potions, huh?" muttered Leon, his curiosity piqued. He made his way into the store, with Molly tagging along at his side...
Upon stepping inside the shop, Leon took a look around. Vials filled with various colors of liquid filled the shelves. An astringent odor reminiscent of witch hazel and burnt anise hung in the air... Molly sniffed around curiously.
As a supernatural fiction writer, Leon was always looking for strange new experiences... Things that would fill him with wonder, and inspire him to write. He started looking through the potions, reading the descriptions. He hoped to find something that would give him an out-of-body experience, or perhaps allow him to embark on a psychonautical journey deepest reaches of his own subconscious mind. He thought back on some of the wondrous and inspirational experiences he'd had with diviner's sage, morning glory seeds, peyote and other hallucinogens. Not to mention, such substances worked wonders for his bipolar disorder.
Reading the descriptions next to the bottles, however, Leon found himself more than a bit uncomfortable. A 24-hour forced 'love potion'? That was just as bad as slipping somebody a roofie, if not worse... And a potion to break up a relationship? Now that's just plain wrong, even if it's only temporary. What kind of horrible person would want to use witchcraft like this? A part of Leon wanted to turn and leave the store right now... However, another part of him was still curious. Certainly, there had to be some potions here that weren't evil... Something that doesn't involve hurting people or forcing them to do things against their will.
Leon turned around, and that is when he saw her... A stunningly beautiful girl with white hair. Her eyes were the loveliest shade of blue he had ever seen. He was momentarily speechless upon seeing her - his breath caught in his lungs, and his heart fluttered in his chest... He realized that he had been just staring at her without saying anything, and he probably seemed odd. He decided to break the silence. "Excuse me. Uhh... do you work here?" he asked, a blush staining his cheeks. Molly, in the meanwhile, sniffed at her curiously, her tail wagging. |

The talk with Esmee the other day was worthwhile, but now, Cassie was back to work. As usual, the place was empty, devoid of customers, so she was slowly killing time through reading one of the books from her personal collection, a supernatural romance novel. Cassie was currently at chapter five since she wasn't able to read that much. It was only when a male voice called out to her that the fair-haired female took a break from her reading mood. Baby blue eyes looked up to the face of the man, ruggedly handsome, though there was the aura of manliness that captivated her. But also, he was not alone; the dog who was wagging the tail like an excited kid was his company. Her smile was gentle as she regarded both their presence.
"Yes, I am, sir, the sales associate of this place to be exact. Glad to see that you decided to drop by here. Any potion that sparks your curiosity?" Cassandra spoke to the man, and then closed the book, the page she was in marked with a bookmark. She then commented on the dog, tapping the nose gently. "Quite an eager puppy, isn't it? I bet the retriever is your pet."
Truly, the handsome man with the golden retriever as his companion was something Casandra didn't see everyday. In fact, the only animal companions she knew of were the familiars summoned with her ice magic.

Leon's gaze shifted from the girl's lovely sapphire eyes to the book that was in her hands... He smiled upon seeing the art upon the cover - a white rose laying in a pool of blood. He immediately recognized this as his own book Dark Desires - the first book in the series of the same title. The white rose and blood were an artistic reference to a murder that occurs early in the book - one which acts as a catalyst for much of the events in the series... Naturally, Leon wondered if the girl would recognize him...
"Well actually, the potions I've seen so far kind of scare me..." admitted Leon sheepishly. "A potion that forces someone to fall in love against their will? Not trying to judge or anything, but that seems a bit evil, doesn't it? I mean, I imagine people can use these potions for all sorts of unsavory purposes..." He then smiled nervously, hoping he hadn't upset her with his opinion. "Actually, I am looking for a potion today... I'm looking for an experience - something that will inspire me. Maybe help me to see the world in a different way, do something I haven't done before, or think about things from a new perspective. Do you have anything like that?"
Leon then nodded when Cassie mentioned his dog. "Yes, Molly here is my best friend!" he answered "Go ahead and pet her if you want, she's very friendly!" He smiled warmly at her, holding out his hand. "It's nice to meet you, by the way - I'm Leon Hawke. I uhhh... wrote the book you're reading." A slight blush crossed his cheeks, and he couldn't help but wonder how she would react to this news. |

A wistful sigh escaped her lips since he did make a point. "Well, yeah, gotta admit that the intentions for the creation of these potions weren't totally noble, and it may always backfire. Luckily, there are some that are good to use." The rest of the sales talk may wait a bit since the questions about the dog were answered; turned out that the golden retriever was a female one with a cute name. "Molly is quite a good name for this cutie pie. It does suit her." The introduction began next, the male introducing himself as Leon Hawke, even revealing himself to be the author of the novel that she was currently reading. The touch of the joined hands was warm with the handshake, though Cassie's expression was surprised at the newfound discovery.
"Oh goodness! It's nice meeting you in the flesh, Mr. Hawke. I'm Cassandra Ice, or Cassie for short!" she chirped before pulling her hand away. "Anyway, back to the business of getting something worthwhile. I do have one potion that may be worth your time." She then approached one of the display cases, eyes transfixed on the potion possessing the deep blue color, like the sea at the beach and the clear skies above. Cradling the glass bottle cautiously, she presented it to Leon. "This potion is known as "Breath of Bubbles". Have you ever thought about swimming underwater, wanting to see more of the ocean life below, but without the hassle of having to hold your breath? This may be the answer that you may be looking for."
But since the potions came with instructions, Cassie had to show Leon the brochure on how to use them. She pointed her finger on the instructions on how to use that underwater potion; the others were intimidating him, rubbing him off in several wrong ways, but the azure concoction may suffice for him.

"It may always backfire?" asked Leon, looking into Cassandra's eyes. "If you ask me, a 'love potion' isn't any different from a date rape drug. How can it ever be used for good? Slipping something into somebody's drink without their permission is something that can never be justified morally..." He wasn't angry with her, he was simply expressing his concern. He could tell that she was a good person, and he hoped he wouldn't make her angry by pointing this out.
As Leon shook Cassandra's hand, he couldn't help but notice how she was cold to the touch. Oh well... cold hands, warm heart. He followed her over to the display case... and his attention was immediately drawn to the brilliant blue potion - it was almost the same color as her eyes! When she handed it to him, he took it from her hands gingerly...
As Cassie explained what the potion did, Leon's eyes widened, and a smile crossed his face. This was almost too good to be true. "Really?! That's awesome!" he exclaimed, chuckling... "I mean, I've been scuba diving before... But to be able to swim underwater like a fish, without any equipment or heavy tanks strapped to my back, that's... just the sort of thing I was looking for." He then smiled at her... "Don't tell anyone, but I'm planning on introducing a new character in my next book. Her name's Lucita, and she's going to be a mermaid, and the love interest of one of the male characters. I've been trying to come up with a backstory for her and her people, as well as a way to introduce her to the book. This potion should give me just the inspiration I need!" As he read through the brochure, he liked what he saw... Even now, he was feeling inspired. He thought about adding a potion like this into his book, one which his neko male character could use to swim underwater with the mermaid who would become his lover.
"I'd like to buy a Breath of Bubbles potion... but to tell the truth, I don't want to do this alone." he then grinned at her - "What time do you get off work tonight, Cassie? I'd love it if you could join me... I'll even buy you one of the potions if you'd like." He was sure that swimming underwater would be an amazing experience for both of them... Not to mention, it would be a great way for him to get to know her better. Naturally, he found himself drawn to this young woman. |

She hummed in thought at his words about the potion. "Come to think of it... You do have a point. Even forcing a couple to break up just to make it happen through similar means... Yep, definitely messed up." Serious discussion aside, Leon was interested with the potion, and even mentioned that he went scuba diving. "Now that you mention it, I haven't been swimming for a long while, at least not since I moved here into this city." The explanation about the plot for the next novel was next, and that was when she was intrigued.
"Giving me a short sneak peek before anyone else, huh? How bold of you," her giggle was light alongside the compliment for revealing his plan.
His plan of introducing her to that similar experience left her a bit too breathless. Was it like... a proposal of friendship? But then again, it wouldn't be everyday that a man would escort a woman to do fun things together on the first meeting. "I would definitely love to. Gotta savor the moment as much as I can." And immediately, she gave him another bottle of the potion, thus ending up in two bottles as his order for the day. "Each bottle of this concoction costs $75, so $150 all in all for two. Or maybe, I should bring a swimsuit along to complete the experience.~"
Her wink was a playful one; God, she was starting to like his company, being a gentleman alongside being talented as a novelist. Hikaru may find him as a new friend since the fallen angel was also a writer as well.

Leon was glad that Cassandra had agreed with his point of view... That love potions and similar concoctions were morally wrong. The sound of her cheerful giggling was sweet words to his ears. He couldn't help but chuckle herself. "Well, if you'd like, I'll let you read the manuscript for my newest book, and you can tell me what you think! It's always good to have a second opinion, a second set of eyes to look over my work..." He then paused for a minute. "Maybe you should finish reading the first and second books first though, unless you're ready to deal with some major spoilers!" She seemed like the kind of person he could trust to look over his work without leaking the details to the public, and he'd gladly allow her to do so if she wanted.
Leon smiled when Cassie had agreed to go swimming with him... He took the second bottle when she handed it to him. $150 seemed like a bargain, especially for an amazing experience such as this. When she mentioned bringing a swimsuit, he couldn't help but grin, looking over her body. He had a vivid imagination... and right now, in his mind's eye he could picture her wearing a bikini. It was needless to say, he liked what he saw. The blush on his cheeks grew even deeper. "Yeah, you should probably bring a swimsuit. I'll bring a pair of swimming trunks along myself!"
"Do you take debit?" asked Leon, handing her his card to buy the potions. If he had to, he wouldn't mind paying with cash - but using his card was always easier and more convenient. "So... how long have you lived here in Soleil, Cassie?" he asked, hoping to strike up a conversation with her. He was eager to get to know her better. |

The suggestion for someone else to check into his manuscript was a good proposition. "I won't mind checking into what you can come up for your future novels every now and then since I'm a fan of your works, and I will make sure to look into those first two books as well, just to make sure." Cassandra was tempted to include Hikaru into the conversation since the brunette was a skilled writer, but the last thing the fallen angel wanted to get dragged into another proposition without proper consent. Cassie pairing her up with Anthony would just be enough. She let out a whistle when Leon mentioned about swimming trunks. "So your body is muscular underneath your outfit, huh? I can't wait to see the view." Sure, the cousins' bodies were used to having to deal with heavy work because of their secret occupations, but noticing the male author's gorgeous body wouldn't be so bad, either.
"And it's not everyday that people ask me to pay using the card, but this is allowed here," the ice mage responded, using the card terminal machine to commence on the transaction. "I have been in Soleil for like, four to five months now? I can't recall the exact time, but I actually moved here because of the engagement between my cousin and his beloved, the fallen angel who stole his heart. Neat, huh?" And since there was the prompt for the card holder to input the password, she gave the device to him, having to look away slightly to avoid staring at the buttons. "Type in the password number to complete the transaction."

Leon was happy to hear that Cassandra was a fan of his works. He laughed at her next words, blushing even more deeply. "W-Well, I'm not exactly 'muscular', but I keep in shape." he admitted. Being an author didn't involve much hard work or heavy lifting. He didn't go to the gym or lift weights either, but he ate healthy and got plenty of exercise with Molly. He was in good shape, if not a bit on the tall and lanky side. "Well... I must admit, I'm looking forward to the view as well!" he admitted. From what he could see of her right now, he knew she'd be a knockout in a bathing suit. He was relieved to find that she was so openly flirtatious. He knew he could be flirty with her as well, and he didn't have to worry about saying something that would upset her or make her think he was a creep.
Leon was a bit surprised to hear that most people didn't pay with cards. After all, credit and debit seemed like the most popular way to pay in this dat and age, as cash was slowly becoming a thing of the past. Then again, this didn't seem like the kind of store that 'average' people would shop at.
Leon smiled at Cassie's words. "I'm happy for your cousin..." he said "There's nothing I love like a sweet romance story, especially if it's nonfiction. I wish your cousin and his beloved all the best! I actually grew up here in Soleil, but when I was thirteen my mom got hired by a law firm in Los Angeles, so we ended up moving. I always loved Soleil, though. It's a nice, quiet peaceful place to live, and some of my fondest memories are here. A few months ago I moved back here, and I ended up buying my childhood home! Now, I plan on finding that 'special someone', raising a family, and spending the rest of my life here."
When Cassandra handed Leon the PIN pad, he punched in his number and hit the green 'Enter' button. He'd been a Trekkie since he was a kid, so naturally his PIN was 1701. It probably wasn't the safest code to use, but nobody had stolen his card yet... "So - do you have family here besides your cousin?" he asked kindly. |

Cassie heard about Leon's story, that he actually grew up in Soleil before having to move to Los Angeles with his mother due to her occupation. Quite understandable, considering that Solaris had moved from Australia (though the exact reason was actually beyond human comprehension) and Hikaru went through the similar path from Japan. "I see. Your mother was a hardworking gal, I can tell. And that's funny, because searching for a boyfriend is one main reason why I decided to move here aside from checking on my cousins." She was glad to know that Leon was on a similar boat as her, to say the least.
At the question about her family, that was when the ice mage frowned. "I do have an uncle and aunt, the parents of my cousins, but they are currently in the family house overseas at this moment, either in Italy or France depending on the purpose of traveling. My parents were dead a long time ago," she replied, but then saw that the transaction was almost done and there was the slip of paper as the receipt, ejected from the machine. Her smile was faint as she handed it over to him. "Sign here, and we are good to go. Actually, today, my shift will end until early afternoon, like around 3 to 4 PM. Maybe we should exchange numbers before we part ways, then meet up at the beach. Does that sound like a fair proposition?"
Indeed, she was starting to like his company even more. If time would permit, the meetings would become a bit more frequent, much to both their liking.

((Sorry it took me so long to reply. I've had a Hellish week, and barely any time to myself))
Leon smiled, nodding his head at Cassie's words. "Yes, my parents were both... and still are hard-working people, even though they come from very different walks of life. My mother is a lawyer, and my father manages a marine mechanic business." They were approaching retirement age, but they both liked staying busy, and planned on working until they couldn't anymore. Leon grinned, delighted to hear that her main reason to come here had been looking for a boyfriend. "Well, I wish you good luck in finding that 'special someone'!" he said, winking at her flirtatiously and chuckling. "But who knows... maybe you're looking at him right now?"
"I'm sorry to hear about your parents, Cassandra..." said Leon sympathetically. "My own parents both live in LA, and I have a younger sister living up in Seattle. My grandmother still lives here in Soleil, though - we see each other as often as we can." He looked forward to telling her the story of how his parents had met, fallen in love, and eaten the fruit in the orchard to prove that they were meant for each other. It was a sweet, tender love story - one which he thought she might enjoy.
Leon signed his name on the receipt, then handed it back to Cassie. He had ended up buying two potions of course - one for himself, and one for her. He was happy to hear that her shift was ending early today. "Yes, that's a great idea!" he happily replied. He pulled out his cell phone, giving her his number, then taking down her own. "I'll see you later at the beach! Take care, now!"
As Leon walked out of the store with Molly at his side, his heart was fluttering in his chest... Even though he had just met Cassandra, he already liked her a lot. He looked forward to seeing her again. She seemed like such a sweet, beautiful girl - and he could already tell that they were going to be great friends! Or maybe, just maybe something even more than that...

The ice mage was glad to discover more about Leon's family through his sympathy with the loss. "But I have moved on from that; what matters is that I have my cousins with me. I appreciate your sympathy." In fact, back then, some people were glad that her parents had kicked the bucket, another set of obstructions overcome. It was a shame that they didn't know what had come to them next. They were the ones ending up dead next, except that they were sent to hell. That one aside, the contact information was then exchanged, the cellphone numbers as one step closer to communication, and she waved both him and the dog good-bye. One thing was for sure; it was a meeting that she would never ever forget.
And later, once her shift was finally over for the day, her house would be the next destination. After all, she had found the perfect swimsuit for the occasion, and it would surely come in handy.
