Jinyu-Zhe would spot the basket at the last second, and stop in his tracks. He would look questioningly at it for a few minutes from this distance. Hopefully it was just investigating curious smells and hadn't already had its fill... Approaching it slowly, Jinyu-Zhe would kneel down a short distance from it (a couple feet away), speaking lowly to it though with familiarity in his voice, despite being unfamiliar with this animal. "Hello, friend. Would you mind coming with me for a minute? There's something I would like to discuss with you. No harm will come to you, and you'll be compensated for your time." Smiling at the creature, he would extend one hand with a berry resting on his outstretched index+middle fingers towards its face, stopping to allow it to sniff the berry. Quote: 4k3 Animal Handling to befriend the animal, with a raise to shift its attitude towards Jinyu-Zhe towards friendly. Result: 39 vs TN+5

"Shinjo Asura." Asura nodded back to Juneko before walking off to go and prep his horse.

The little thing chirped out a short giggle, "He, he, he, huh?" as he came towards Jinyu-Zhe. The little thing sniffed and licked the berry cautiously. He had no idea what the Iuchi shugenja was saying, although there WAS a way Jinyu-Zhe could make himself understood perfectly with the little kittypuppy type thing, if he wished.

"This basket will do nicely. Up we go," Jinyu-Zhe would say, reaching forward slowly to take the handle of the basket the creature currently inhabited. Placing his other hand over the opening and whispering, "Sshh sshh sshh...", he'd lift the basket up and carefully walk it, and the animal, back towards camp in a non-hurried fashion. Nearing the main path they had traveled upon, but within sight of the place his people had camped in the night prior, he would slowly set the basket down, and sit close to it... but not before pulling out a scroll. Quote: Nature's Touch, a trickier 3k2 vs TN 15 TN 10. Result of 9, failure. Jinyu-Zhe would try to invoke a nearby air kami to allow him to better communicate with the animal to convey his intentions, but the kami would not hear his prayer. He would beseech them a second time if given the opportunity, granted by the animal's patience, however.

The cubbo obeys in a curious fashion as Jinyu-Zhe coaxes him back into his basket. Cubbo would peak out of the basket and pant, happy to be traveling along. The kit would look at the Utaku with interest as the shugenja tried to beseech the kami to enable him to speak with Cubbo.
As Jinyu-zhe attempted to cast the spell again, the kit would seem to smell something on the wind and bark questioningly at Husband.

"Sorry, little one. I guess that first attempt was for practice. Let me give it another shot." Jinyu-Zhe would say, attempting the spell again, scroll still in hand. Quote: Second verse, same as the first. Result: 13, pass It took some time, but finally Jinyu-Zhe was able to win over the favor the air kami, allowing them to influence his speech. Rolling up the scroll, he would put it away. "Thank you for your patience, my friend. I'm sorry to have disturbed you, but I have a favor I need from you. You see, my other packmates and I are riding ahead to make sure no dangers await us or the rest of our pack, who are a few sunrises behind us. But some of our number were badly hurt last night by the humans who were camped where I found you," he explained sadly. "We do not have the time to tend to the bodies of my hurt packmates. Since you reside around here, could I ask something of you? If you could keep close to the road, until the time comes where our friends arrive? They will be many, and on horses like the ones I rode here upon. Wait for them along this trail until they see you, and get their attention and lead some of them here. They will know what to do once they arrive."Grabbing the berries and nuts he had gathered minutes prior, he would present them in a small pile before the creature. "For considering my request, this is my offering to you, along with my gratitude."Roll to convince per GM request: 9

OOC:
I've decided what Jinyu-zhe is asking for is fairly complex. Because I think you're asking cubbo to wait three days at least for the main body to come by and alert them. Cubbo is young and is easily distracted, although he's fairly smart. I want Jinyu-zhe to make an animal handling roll. Chikushido's blessing is helping as well the ability to speak to animals.

Jinyu-zhe not sure if the little cub understood what you meant. He doesn't give that impression at first. Eventually you think you see a glimmering of understanding. Hopefully, that's what it was. Anyrate, Jinyu-zhe now rejoins the party!

"Arigatou gozaimasu," Jinyu-Zhe would say, bowing deeply to the small animal. "I wish for you a long and fruitful life, my friend. Now, I shall wish you goodbye." Standing from where he sat and brushing off his kimono, he would smile at the animal and then turn to rejoin the others.
"A friend of yours, Misaki-san?" Jinyu-Zhe would ask, raising an eyebrow at the two Mantis. After whatever response, he would bow and offer a greeting to the newcomer. "My name is Jinyu-Zhe. It is a pleasure to meet you."
Turning to Asura, he would bow to him next. "Thank you for keeping watch. At the next opportunity, I will take yours in exchange. I'm appreciative of your sacrifice." Casting a glance briefly back towards the path they had arrived on, he'd explain, "I've tried my best to make arrangements so our comrades will be found by the main convoy. I'm going to write a brief note for them to leave here when they do arrive. If you'll pardon me, I'm going scribe it now so I don't hold us up any longer than necessary."
If not held up further, he'd head back into the building to do just that (I will make a Calligraphy roll when that happens).

"Kitsune Juneko," she replied, bowing in turn, deciding that friend or unexplained ally sat better than explaining she was doing it for cash and to not be lost alone in a strange land. She watched him walk off and speak with the other, lingering around where she'd come to the camp, and idly looking around- before turning back to the other mantis.
"So, what, are... all of your peasants dead? Are we hanging around until we can get resupplied or should I we be loading up to move?"

He just sighed, rubbing his head. Of course, reminded of that little problem. "Idiots that thought they could profit or something from attacking us. It did not go well for them, but they did manage to strike down our workers at the start. So, that's where we're at." He waved at the wagons and the supplies he had been working on. "Packing up. There's still a job to do, even if it means we're going to have to handle more ourselves. Not the worst I've done to take care of things."

"Good of you to mention that, Yoritomo-san. I was hoping I could rely on you to drive the cart." Aneksi called out as she emerged from the building, looking a bit disheveled, but beyond mild dehydration she had broken through the fever and come out no worse for wear. Strong enough to scoop up her husband as he tried to pass by and claim some refreshing affection. "Be sure to include a request for new drivers while you're at it. We don't want to impose upon our Mantis friend.... s... for... too long... who is this? How are we coming across so many Samurai out in the wilderness? That's it... Asura-san! Jinyu-Zhe! We're scouting today! I'll take fore, you two flank. We'll take a mile spread, or as far as you can comfortably see. If there's anyone else out there I want to know about it! See me before we depart if you need a humming bulb arrow."
With a little huff, she released her captive and went to prepare Chishiyo for the day ahead.

IC: Asura: You find lots of plains and scrub brush. Not much else...except a tumbleweed that rolls by as you ponder the life choices that cost you your depth perception.
OOC: Perception/Hunting rolls from Aneksi and Jinyu-zhe then. To the Mantids. You are currently left alone with the horses, the corpses, and a wierd kittypuppy thing eying you.
