As Tristen was taking his stride, he was a little focused in trying to maintain his pace. He didn't want to make this too much of a landslide; he understood that the other students here didn't go through what he went through. He didn't pay that much mind to the other runners, though...just made sure that he stayed in his lane on the track. He then perked up...sensing something in the air. He wasn't too sure about it, and usually it wouldn't bother him...except it was just random spurts of static with no really any discernible source that he knew of. As he glanced out the corner of his eye, he took note to the sole human on the track was not only smoking the other two hybrids, but was trying to overtake Tristen, which caught him off guard. He didn't bring himself to question it, however. In the heat of the moment, the most that Tristen could figure was that the sole human runner was in it to win it. And as such, Tristen picked up the pace as fast as he could, every step, which was a light grace was now a hard 'dig' into the concrete. He was going to try to outrun this guy at least. He didn't think that anyone would be that fast, but he was clearly mistaken. Tristen was now putting every effort he could that was available to him.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 18, 2024 6:45 pm
It wouldn't take much more effort for Tristen to cut off the human's hopes of surpassing him, the human falling behind as Tristen picked up the pace. From here the human would fall behind more and more as if he had lost whatever juice he was running on. In fact Matteo would catch up and surpass the human as he picked up his own pace, the human however still in front of Carlos.

As they made it to the last quarter of the track, the finish line dead ahead, placements began to settle, from fourth to first with Carlos, Felipe, Matteo, and Tristen.

For a few seconds it looked like Tristen had this, he was going to win this easily with little effort as he got closer and closer to the finish line, his nearest competitor was barely unable to match his speed and there was still a gap between them. That was until Matteo revealed his ace in the hole; Agility.

Focusing his mind Matteo would hone his energy and channel it into heightening his swiftness. For Matteo his manifested in such a way that he could focus on nothing else in this spurt of speed, his reflexes suffering and nothing but the path directly in front of him registering to him, he would even gain tunnel vision. It was like turning off all the pipes to other senses and diverting all efforts to 'run fast'.

Matteo would let out a burst of Psychic energy as he rushed towards and past Tristen, looking almost like an orange blur. While Tristen was just a few feet away from the finish line it was Matteo who would cross it first, the Growlithe hybrid coming to a stumbling stop, almost falling over. He had a long way to go to mastering Agility, it still had many drawbacks for him as he rubbed his eyes, trying to get his vision back and hoping the urge to vomit went away.

"Matteo wins!" Ms. Dendra declared.

As Tristen made his hard frantic sprint, he briefly noticed Felipe starting to peter out. Apparently he was trying too hard and it was starting to catch up with him, while Tristen could perhaps go another mile, even at this pace. Already committed to this speed, he figured just to try to hurry up and finish his race, pretty certain that he already cinched it. The orange and white blur was going to show otherwise. Matteo wasn't the fastest thing he ever bore witness to, he could still at least keep sight of him. That said, it did take the wind out of Tristen's sails a little. For a moment there, he wouldn't have minded winning when one actually was able to challenge him some, and worse, Matteo did in fact have that ace in the hole that Tristen didn't have at all, despite his best efforts. All in all, that...honestly sucked.

As Tristen stood there, not really all that out of breath despite the hard sprint he made, staring at Matteo in a little bit of concern, but more so out of confusion. It didn't escape Tristen's notice that as the Growlithe hybrid tried to stop, he couldn't actually stop that well. His demeanor changed as well, like he was sick in some way. Tristen thought for a moment...recalling something, but wasn't all that sure. Perhaps sometime this evening, if he can get a moment of peace to himself, he might make a call or two to check something. In the meantime... "Are...are you okay?" Tristen asked.

"Yeah...I'm-oof...okay." Matteo responded to Tristen as he was trying to catch his brief and hold his lunch down at the same time, leaning over and holding his knees for a bit before he finally collected himself and stood up straight again. "I'm good, I'm good." He assured Tristen and the other two runners that had arrived by now to check on Matteo.

"Heh, no you ain't. You look greener than my cousin Paulie!" Carlos the yellow feathered bird boy mocked Matteo as he fixed his hair. "Shut up, you lost." Matteo snapped back at Carlos. "Oooh, touchy. You're just lucky I didn't want to mess up my hair for some lame race." The Squawkabilly hybrid went on. Felipe said nothing, just watched all this unfold. When Ms. Dendra approached the boys both went silent.

"Good job, Matteo! Fast as always but you really need to work on your Agility buddy." She said to the boy as she patted him on the shoulder. "Okay guys, head back to the sidelines! We're going to set up another race!"

Felipe was already heading back to the rest of the students while Matteo began to walk after instructed. Carlos tried to hang around for a bit, adjusting his shirt and feathers, Ms. Dendra had to call on him to get him to finally move.

Back with the rest of the students the mouse twins would congratulate Matteo and reassure Tristen. "Matteo is just really fast!" E would said. "You were really close to winnin'!" B went on. Matteo made no comments as the twins excitedly carried on, instead he kept rubbing his eyes in silence. Meanwhile Ms. Dendra was calling up most students for another race, those students taking to the track.

Tristen was a little hesitant to leave the track right away seeing Matteo the way he was, but it wasn’t so much as concern about what he was going through in the aftermath of using his Agility, it was more of what was going through his mind. He wondered if that was the reason why he wasn’t really fully taught how to use Agility as of yet. Over the years, there have been numerous attempts at trying to learn how to use Agility, or at the very least Quick Attack, however there was not much progress, if any at all. Tristen wasn’t really grasping at what he needed to do. He seen countless times the speed of his adoptive parents, recognizing various things at the very least as to what they do. Most prominent thing was that they were using their icy prowess to give that proverbial rocket launch of speed to go from one spot to another, but was there something more to it? How were they able to not needing to dry-heave like Matteo was just now? Well…unless they used their Agility to extreme amounts, that is, and only then that was more akin to exhaustion, not…whatever Matteo was going through.

He would follow the rest of the racers off the track eventually and stood off to the side. B and E would point out about Matteo being fast, but honestly, while he would hold his tongue on the matter, it was just only because he had Agility to call upon…albeit not skilled at using it. Tristen was almost confident that if that wasn’t a factor, he’d be the one who one. Then again, if dealing with Matteo told him so far, he would perhaps once again have full on disdain towards him for no apparent reason. However, Matteo’s win was probably going to sustain his already exacerbated ego. Tristen perhaps couldn’t win for losing in that now that he thought about it.

For now, Tristen would just stand by and watch the rest of the class start taking their own turns running the track. Plenty to think about now…

There would be several more races after this one, Tristen getting to watch then as they played out. There were some pretty fast humans but none of them could run nearly as fast as Tristen, not even on their best day. In one race E and B would both get to run, both of them losing out to a human, just further solidifying for Tristen the fact that not all hybrids got the kind of training he did, not all of them actually pursued their abilities. The twins seemed to have fun though.

Once the races were down the entire class, save for those who ran last who were given the option to sit out, were instructed to jog the track. Ms. Dendra, as a teacher who did exactly what she expected of her own students, would lead the group at the front, jogging ahead of them. E and B were more like skipping than jogging while Matteo hung towards the back for awhile until he found a moment to run up on Tristen and then match his speed, jogging side by side.

"You were pretty fast, I hate to admit." He started off the conversation. "Are Manetric just normally that fast? Did you train for speed prior? Is it an ability? Did you actually use a move?" He said, asking a bunch of questions, seeking out the source of Tristen's speed.

Tristen would stand by, watching the other students make their run on the track, still left a fair bit to mentally chew on. B and E only cemented something he suspected, but then again, he also didn’t know what whatever they’re hybrids of had normally. All the same, there wasn’t really much conversation to be had here as he waited for students to take their rounds.

Waiting on them, he would find, would take a fair chunk of the time that this class had, which once again Tristen found himself astonished in. Honestly, in some aspects, this was no different from back at headquarters. Hitting the books that Freth gave him to study up on, then follow that up with time spent in the training room afterwards to train himself or his Pokémon. In some respects, he didn’t necessarily expect that this school would have something similar, or for that matter if any school would do that. It was a little interesting, now that he thought about it.

Soon after everyone took their rounds, they would all be directed by the teacher to take a jog around the track, no racing this go round, just a simple jog. He would do as directed and start following the others on the track, not really pushing himself, just pacing himself just right. It wouldn’t escape his notice that B and E was trying to make this a lot more of a leisurly thing than he’d expected it to be. Though as he focused on just trying to maintain his pace, Matteo would start making his way next to him, bombarding him with all manner of questions. Tristen was imagining that Matteo was trying to hold his tongue at the moment, especially how he lead off with him hating to admit that Tristen did have speed on him. “Uh…kinda the first two?” Tristen said. “Manetric are kinda fast on their own, though how well that translate to hybrids, well…I don’t know. I just trained here and there. I tried to figure out how to do something like Agility or Quick Attack on my own, but I haven’t really gotten it figured out yet.” How well that sort of explanation would go over well with Matteo was beyond Tristen. He didn’t really lie, but it wasn’t fully the truth either, still trying to avoid bringing anything Snagem related into this conversation. Though, probably knowing that Tristen was naturally fast like that was probably not going to do any favors.

[Forty minutes later.]

"Okay class, we have just five minutes left so let me quickly explain your homework. I want you to teach your Pokemon the move Round! It doesn't have to be perfect, just a rudimentary concept of how to use the move. I'll be providing you all with a TM for the move of course. It's important you have your Pokemon capable of using the move before we meet again the day after tomorrow. If you need any help feel free to email me. TMs are in a box by the door, pick one up on the way out. Also please-" Mr. Salvatore would continue on, explaining more about the move Round. While he was explaining the bell would ring and he would dismiss the class.

Next up for Naranja House was Math Class with Ms. Tyme.
Gale would be taken aback by Mr. Salvatore's apparent praise? Excitement? That and the students left her nervous, but the nod she'd see from Amaranth kept her at ease until she was recalled and the channeler returned to her seat with another nod. The rest of the class going fairly smoothly afterward, she'd be left with some things to question later. Maybe for next class with him... for now, she'd take one of the TMs and wondered who to teach it too. Probably her Pidgeot for consistency's sake.

Deciding to make that decision later, she'd hurry on to math. Though, something had felt slightly unusual to her in the last class... probably just nerves about the academy life.

"Hm..." Matteo hummed to himself as he stared at Tristen. Thinking more about it, that the boy was possibly just naturally fast, kind of grinds his Klang. "...and you didn't use a move..." He said, in an almost displeased tone, as if he so badly wanted it to be a move he utilized that helped him pull it off. Breaking eye contact with Tristen he faced forward and jogged for awhile longer before speaking again. "Want to train together one day? Maybe teach you how I use Agility." He asked the boy. The offer was perhaps sudden and strange, considering Matteo seen him as some sort of rival so why would he want to help Tristen get better?

Tristen practically ended up doing a slight double-take, between making sure that he was still going straight on the track and making sure that he did hear Matteo right. He’d help Tristen learn Agility? Though…how Matteo knows how to use Agility? Tristen wasn’t really up for dry-heaving like he did or…well…perhaps just lose all senses with how he had the hardest time in stopping. Though maybe…he could figure out where Matteo was going wrong and repay the favor. “Really?” Tristen asked. “That’d be great. I’m game.” Tristen said to Matteo.

"Yeah, really." Matteo answered Tristen, almost dismissively, still trying to be 'cool' or something. "Meet me here in the courtyard early tomorrow morning before class at let's say...seven-ish? We can get an hour of practice in before classes start. Don't stay up late tonight." He instructed Tristen, still not facing him anymore as he spoke.

A minute later the entire class would cross the track's finish line and Ms. Dendra would inform them to go sit and relax. After a few minutes of everyone relaxing on the benches the bell would ring indicating class was over. "Okay kids if you would like you can all go hit the communal showers or take one up in your room, your pick! Next time we'll be focusing on exercise for our Pokemon! So stay moving and I'll see you all later! Bye!" Ms. Dendra said, dismissing her class.

Matteo would leave before Tristen, actually kind of quick to slip away. However the mice boys would linger a bit before spotting Tristen and would walk up to him.

"Tristen! We wanted to tell you something!" E declared happily.

"Yeah! We wanted to tell you before you left that..." B jumped in.

"We are really happy to have you as our new friend!" They both said in unison before jumping up and giving Tristen a hug. Sweet kids, way different from the other hybrid Tristen made 'friends' with today. After giving Tristen a hug they would jump back and wave to him goodbye before both running off, arms out as they played 'airplane'.

It had been a long day for Tristen with a lot of firsts but while class was over his day was not, he had a promise to still keep.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 29, 2024 9:00 am
“Alright, I’ll see you then.” Tristen said to Matteo. A early morning run? Sure, Tristen could handle that one.

It wasn’t long until everyone took their jog around the track and Ms. Dendra dismisses the class upon the bell ringing. Though it left a realization. Exercise for their Pokémon? Well that was inevitability…he had to start bringing his Pokémon out as well. The most he showed off was Castform, even with the other Snagems around, but what if he had to release other Pokémon. He probably had to figure out what kind of Pokémon party he’d bring along to make things as low key as possible. Maybe Espeon since he already admitted that to Penny earlier. Dragonite and Gyarados though might need to stay behind, either Matteo would get overly excited or immensely jealous, if not both of having such Pokémon in his presence was going to make things complicated and that wasn’t getting into perhaps revealing more of his hand about him being with Snagem. Zebstrika might be fine, however. He just needs to figure out what else to do…wait. The bug Pokémon that he got in Science class…maybe he could knock out two proverbial Pidgeys with one stone.

Thoughts immediately were derailed when B and E showed up, showing their affection to their newfound friendship, not really expecting their whole reception of it. These two must have a hard time getting friends for some reason if they are so grateful to get a new friend like that. As the two ran off making their airplane maneuvers all the way off the field and back into the building, Tristen was left to think for a second. Honestly? He didn’t really see anything wrong with them. They were pretty endearing and really? He was due for a new friend as well. He never really got them hanging out in Snagem. It was…a weird feeling. He liked it. Maybe it was a good idea to stay here at the academy after all…

With the final class done for the day, a couple of appointments he had to take care of. Ms. Picante was owed for the yeast from earlier. Tristen would make his way off the field himself and back into the building. Careful to keep his bearings right, he eventually found his way back for the cafeteria. He imagined that the place would probably be next to empty now that the lunch rush was over, but she was probably going to try to be ready for anyone looking for dinner in roughly 2 or 3 hours from now. Perhaps that is why she suggested Tristen was going to do some cleaning up with the cafeteria. “Ms. Picante?” Tristen spoke up as he entered into the cafeteria, then making his way towards the kitchen in search of the nice baker.

"Mi hijo! You're here!" Ms. Picante shouted out to Tristen from the kitchen, her voice echoing throughout the empty cafeteria, save for the janitor changing the trash who just gave Tristen an acknowledging nod before going back to his work. When Tristen made it to the back of the kitchen he would find Ms. Picante standing in front of a huge mess of dirty dishes, pots, pans, utensils and everything else imaginable. It looked like a herculean task to clean all this for one person but Ms. Picante wasn't alone and that's not because Tristen was here.

"Oh! This is garoto Tristen? Pleased to meet you!" Another woman greeted Tristen in a thick west Paldean accent. The woman standing next to Ms. Picante looked to be around the same age as her, however much skinnier compared to the plump Picante.

"This is him! He's a sweet boy." Ms. Picante replied to the other woman. "Tristen, this is my wife, Ms. Leve!" She said, introducing the boy to her wife. "Grab an apron hijo and step on up to the sink, you look tall enough! I'll wash, you rinse, and the misses with dry! Sound like a game plan?" She asked the young hybrid.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 30, 2024 5:40 pm
Dishes? That seemed simple enough. "Alright, I can do that." He went over and grabbed the large apron nearby on a rack where all the other aprons were stored. The put the large loop around his neck then tied the waste ties behind him, then walked over towards the sink, reaching over to get the water running for the sink, ready and waiting to start moving dishes down the line.

As Tristen helped clean the dishes Ms. Picante's duo of Tandemaus would scurry back and forth putting more dirty items in the sink, helping out as well. One of her Fidough would also show up to sniff Tristen's leg before curling up against him and lay down at his feet, looks like it took a liking to him.

"So, Tristen..." Ms. Picante started to speak up. "How are you liking the academy? Making any friends?" She asked the boy.

"Sim, some of the criancas talk about new kid, you." Ms. Leve spoke up, again in that thick accent.

"Some of the children have been talking about you. While there are many hybrids at the academy you are the only Manetric and the Pokemon isn't native to our region so you must understand that you stand out, especially being new." Ms. Picante jumped in.
