Why not take a look yourself? At the very least I think it looks more similar than what you are wearing now.

I took a look and didn't think so...or did I?

Why would you not think so? The length and buckles look similar, the studded lining on the arms looks similar to the silver lining on his though it's closed fully and without anything that looks similar to his shoulder armour. also with the high collar.

maybe it would be better if it was open slightly? I could use mythrill armor for the shoulder armor things...

I think that is your biggest problem, though your current outfit is too open and makes it more clear that you lack the kind of wrestling belt he sports, would you not think? Either way some Mythril Armour would look better on both coats. And both have their pros and cons, noh?
