Though Idhren's heart is good, her outward appearance causes other soquili to judge her harshly. To her it seems that only her mother accepts her as she is, though she finds her mother's constant cheerfulness is grating.

She decides to leave the Kawani lands and head into the dark, unknown wilderness. She meets up with a bitter flutter stallion who shares her darker twist on life. Though they will be a couple forever, because of Eglan's background, they will never formally lifemate.
