The Demon King's Contest 1: Finished!

Mariko had no time to dodge the attack; her eyes had been locked onto the dark mass in front of her as she wondered what would emerge. She tumbled to the ground as the claw made contact, but pushed herself back onto her feet moments later. She looked up and her throat tightened as she saw what stood before her.
Fear gripped her right then and she almost cried out, so hideous was the thing before her. Instead, she steeled herself, prepared to win the fight whatever the cost. Taking her axe in her hand once more, she backed as far away from the monster as possible, though she still felt that she was too close to the monster, even on the other side of the arena.
Once more she threw her axe, aiming for the centipede's legs.

The weapon cut easily through several of the creature's legs. It gave a howl of pain, and launched itself at Mariko, headfirst.

Mariko panicked as she saw her nightmare flying toward her. She stumbled over herself in her haste and the centipede flew straight into her. She retaliated with a quick jab to the beast's eye.

Ichiro returned to human form, gasping. He quickly banished his Red Oni, and swung with full force using the Blue Oni kanabo. He struggled to calm his nerves. Using his Fullbring at full output did drain him physically, but the mental toll was much more dire.

The kanabo made contact with Mariko's head, throwing her to ground. Blood began to seep from the wound and she found herself blinking slowly, almost sleepily, as her surroundings blurred and she fell into unconsciousness.

Ichiro lifted both hands in surrender as his Blue Oni faded from existence.
"I'm sorry!" he called to the referee that walked out to name him the winner. "That's it for me. It was a stroke of luck that I beat her--I doubt I can keep up with the rest of the competition. I definitely won't be able to use Black Oni on the King. I must withdraw." He wandered back to his quarters amid boos and jeers from all sides. He hoped his teammates would understand. The referee raised one of Mariko's limp hands by the wrist, and named her winner with a shrug.

Mariko approached the arena wearily. Curses and boos from the crowd reminded her that she shouldn't be here at all. She didn't even understand why the human had dropped out, allowing her to continue.
A particularly loud demon shouted a few choice words at her. She glared at the crowd, spitting in their general direction.
Without a word, she reached her position in the arena and prepared for the next battle.

The arena fell silent once more as the Demon King gave a second speech.
"Humans, Youkai, Shinigami, Hollows, and everything in between! Congratulations, Daisuke, Mariko, Cullingblade, and Haruko. You have made your masters proud, no doubt. However, I must call your attention to the result of the last bout. How shameful for Ichiro Oda to back out now! Afraid to face me, are you? Fine! You'd better hope the Shinigami can stop me, humans... because after this tournament, I will march on your world and consume it for your cowardice!"

Two more weeks had passed, giving contestants time to heal. Daisuke entered the ring across from Mariko, his opponent by default.

Daisuke bowed respectfully to his new opponent and released his Zanpakuto. Before she could do anything, he released a quick Kido.
"Hado number 33, Sokatsui!" A ball of blue-white fire leaped from Daisuke's fingertips toward the hot-blodded Youkai.

Mariko knew that she couldn't dodge the fire attack. Instead, she dropped into a crouch, covering her head and face with her arms. The fire singed her arms and shoulders, but she was unharmed for the most part.
She threw her axe before she even stood, and charged at her opponent after it.

Shunpo carried Daisuke out of the weapon's path. He lashed out once with Yamato, now in whip form.
