Fiona had enjoyed spending time with Kai whenever she could, whether it be baking - or attempting to bake - cakes or painting portraits or doing whatever hobby she could think of, she did her best to be by his side at all times. She all but snubbed the attentions, however few or many they might be on any given day, of her husband to be - which seemed to frustrate him more and more as time passed by. Finally, the day came for Fiona's wedding, in which her mother did everything she could to make the day as wonderful and memorable for her baby girl as possible - while of course giving her absolutely no choice on the matter. Everything from the jewelry she wore to the extravagant, yet gorgeous, dress that hugged her otherwise barely existant curves made her look to be the loveliest she had probably ever been - and Fiona hated every minute of it. The very moment she got time to herself, she had asked Kai to meet her near the railing on the other side of the ship - as it seemed to be the only place where people weren't gathering. While she waited, she gazed at the waters, desperately hoping that only her friend would find her there.

Kai tried to avoid the crowds of people. Everyone (well, most everyone) thought it was going to be a wonderful day and a beautiful ceremony, while he looked as though his heart was little more than a pile of broken shards. He was dressed up nice for the big day, but felt as though he shouldn't be there. Even if he could tell her how he felt, what difference would it make? Her family needed the money he knew that. Watching the deep blue waves surrounding the ship, he longed to take back his wish, even considering jumping into the sea right then and there. His heart just couldn't take much more of this.

Fiona let out a heavy sigh, soon pushing herself away from the railings, finally ready to speak up. "Kai...may I tell you a secret?" she asked, looking just as numb as she had throughout the rest of the revelry - although the cracking in her voice betrayed her true feelings and let slip a hint of the despair that she currently felt.

Kai tried to put on his best smile, though at this point it was starting to show some emotional wear to it, starting to betray his true thoughts of grief. He gave Fiona's hand a squeeze. It didn't matter what she had to say, he'd hear her out. He then began to trace letters on the railing between them. 'A SECRET ILL TAKE TO THE GRAVE NOT THAT I CAN SAY ANYTHING ANYWAY' A meek chuckle escaped his lips.

Fiona gave a sad smile, the first emotion she'd seemed to show throughout the whole ordeal, before she went out and just lightly pecked him on the lips. "I've been head over heels for you for quite a while now, probably for as long as I can remember." She took a deep breath, wiped away a few falling tears, and then continued, "I ain't dumb enough to have any dillusions of you feelin' the same, or of us bein' able to run away even if you did." She gave a shaky sigh, beginning to turn away as she continued, "I'm sorry for dumpin' all this on you, and on my weddin' day no less, but...but I hope that you'll give me a fightin' chance in the next life."

Thank god Fiona had turned away from him. Kai looked absolutely devastated. Things had been going so well when he first entered her life, when did things spiral downhill so fast? He clenched his fists to keep himself from shaking before taking her hand once more to trace on her palm, plastering on the quickly dissolving mask of a smile he'd become so accustomed to. His finger hovered above her palm, unsure of what to actually say, just knowing that he should say something. 'SEEING WHAT YOURE GOING THROUGH NOW IM SURE THE NEXT LIFE WILL BE MORE ACCOMMODATING' It was the easiest way to return the promise without admitting anything. 'YOU MAKE A BEAUTIFUL BRIDE YOUR HUSBAND SHOULD COUNT HIMSELF LUCKY HE GETS TO MARRY SOMEONE LIKE YOU' If she only knew he spent the previous night crying himself to sleep.

Fiona gave a sad chuckle, somehow disappointed with his answer and somehow not. To be honest, part of her had hoped that he would feel the same - maybe talk her into running away. Or maybe having an affair, as awful as that might sound. She would never love her husband anyway. Unable to stop the tears from flowing this time, she quietly wept, "Thank you." She kept repeating it again and again, seeming to break down almost. But she couldn't, because she had a wedding to get to. Some rich something to essentially make a whore out of herself for. Once she managed to calm down, she offered a meek apology and scurried off, unable to face Kai any further lest she start begging and pleading for him to take her away.

Little did she know, however, was that her betrothed had come to find her. He hadn't heard the whole conversation, but had learned just enough to gather that she and Kai were more than just friends. Once his bride to be was safe out of sight, he stormed towards the man. "Who the ******** are you and why the hell were you kissing my wife?!" he hissed, keeping his voice down lest the others hear of it.

Kai looked like a deer in the headlights, backed up against the railing when he saw Fiona's betrothed. How was a mute supposed to defend himself in a verbal disagreement? He quickly pointed to himself, tapped his lips, pointed to the side in indication of Fiona, then made an X with his arms. She kissed him, not the other way around! He repeated the series of motions, emphasizing the X in hopes that the man would believe him, though knowing him it was unlikely. With one finger, he spelled out a word in the air: 'FRIENDS'

Fiona's betrothed had a difficult time understanding Kai's charade, so he moved to slap the man. He went on a long rant demanding the truth, speaking of how he knew Kai could speak like a normal person, how he was just faking - or in a best case scenario, not trying hard enough. His words got louder and louder and more and more vicious as time went along, unintentionally drawing a crowd. Saying something about not allowing Kai to get in the way of his 'meal ticket', he moved to push the man overboard. What he did not realise was that Fiona, her family, and several other guests had been watching the whole scenario play through. He really should have stuck to his first instinct and took better care not to yell.

Kai held his cheek, the stinging sensation unbearable. Tears started to blur his vision as he stared down at the deck. How did it end up this way? How did this happen? Those questions began to ring through his head over and over again, and his situation, compounded with the words from the horrid brute in front of him pushed Kai to the brink, raising a fist and punching the man square on the jaw. After the deed was done, he went wide eyed again, terrified at what he just did and what that probably meant for him. He was backed up against the railing with nowhere to go.

The man was absolutely ********' livid at this point. He strided over to the other male, pushing him overboard without a moment's hesitation. He watched with a sneer as Kai fell into the waters, brought out of his moment of glee by both the guasping of a crowd and Fiona's loud footsteps. Without any hesitation, she exclaimed, "The weddin's OFF!" before punching the ******** as hard as she could across the face. Not waiting for him to try and man-handle her or try (and fail) with crowd control, she ripped the overly flowy skirt from her dress and dived into the ocean waters, intending on saving her friend.

Time seemed to slow down for Kai as he went overboard, a look of absolute terror on his face as he hit the water while staring up at the ship. He never learned to swim with his legs and proceeded to sink like a rock, the water swallowing him up with little effort. 'So this is what Fiona felt...' he thought as he closed his eyes as he let himself sink. The experience was suffocating of course and his throat and lungs burned, but somehow he didn't mind. 'I'm sorry to leave you like this. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you proper.' Apology after apology ran through his head, deciding there was no better place to give up than in the deep blue realm he once called home. 'I hope you won't keep me waiting in the next life...' Opening his eyes one last time, he saw the ship above through the surface of the water, glowing with the light of the sun, and another figure diving down towards him.

Fiona swam faster than she ever had before, reaching Kai before long and wrapping a loving arm tightly around him before daring to try and resurface. She would not let him drown. She would not let him die. Especially not to that b*****d back on deck. Mentally, she swore to never ever consider marrying for money again. No, if she were to ever marry, it would be for love - which would probably mean marrying Kai or not marrying at all.

Kai gasped for air when they surfaced, coughing up the sea water in his lungs and trying to replace it with air. Drowning was not a pleasant experience. Panting, he looked over at Fiona and almost immediately threw out all his previous thoughts, her visage giving him the strength to go on as it always had. He missed being in her arms like this and clung tightly to her as though he'd never let go again.
