An exhausted Monique woke up to a muffled din outside the hotel room. Was that the market? An opening of the window revealed that, outside of the hotel lobby, there were people holding signs and banging pots and pans. The signs were little more than spraypainted sheets and slabs of cardboard in Paldean, a language that would have been about as practical to her growing up as learning about the weather.

JUSTICIA PARA FERDINAND
VIVO LO QUEREMOS
NO SOMOS PARAÍSO TURÍSTICO

She looked out the window for a moment before someone in the crowd pointed up at her window. "Mira, mira, ¡es la del gusano azul! ¡Que se la lleve ante la justicia!"

Monique was terrified. They were shouting. They were banging the pots and pans. She didn't even know anything that was being said.

She closed the window and pulled the shades. To get out of here unscathed, she would have to pull off the right disguise. Otherwise, her first full day in Paldea was going to be spent beaten by a mob whose language she did not read or speak.

She turned on a light and began to cast and shift an Illusion, settling on a red dress with thin straps and lacy trim and a lighter skin tone. Would anyone figure her to be the owner of a whatever-that-worm was? A foreigner? If she could get out of this mess without a single utterance, she might get away with it.

Amber recalled Turace and gave a sigh. So the Pokemon in front of them, which was not a Shadow by any stretch of the imagination, by the way, had just been beaten up because of one person's mistake. Oh, how much she wished she'd never gotten out of bed. This was probably going to come back to haunt them in the morning. Going back to the hotel, she sank into her bed, closing her eyes and hoping she could fall back asleep, but knowing it probably wouldn't come. She was right, and she laid there with her eyes closed for several hours, until morning light broke over the buildings in the town.

The morning came with voices that she could hear yelling something about someone named Ferdinand outside the hotel. Getting up, she went to her window to see a crowd gathered, some holding signs of a shiny Toedscruel, one that looked suspiciously familiar, as well as a few grainy shots of some of them returning to the hotel. Yep, the events from the night before had definitely come back to haunt them. Groaning, she stepped away from the window, then turned to leave her room, her irritation with the situation practically rolling off her. Anyone who could sense emotions (or anyone in general, really) would do well to stay out of her way.

"LARRIMORE!" was yelled from the hallway as she made a beeline for one specific room, intending on taking the root of this problem before the masses and letting them deal with it. If she was successful in collaring him, she would march him to the front of the group in the lobby. If not, she would send Spooky after him to chase him toward the group. Either way, the Pinsir hybrid would be driven toward the mob.

---------------------------------------

Brian woke to the masses screaming something about justice for someone called Ferdinand, if what he was hearing was correct. What in the world happened? Picking up his SNAG, he saw the message from Larrimore, and he sighed. Oh, this wasn't going to go well. He freshened up and made his way down to the lobby, then followed Aile as she headed for the breakfast bar. He wanted no part of being part of the group that was being mobbed for something he had nothing to do with. Besides, the locals had no way of knowing he was part of the team, right? A sudden shout of 'LARRIMORE!' jolted him from his thoughts, and he turned toward the hallway to see a Froslass hybrid heading away from him. Just from the tone of her her voice, he could tell she wasn't someone he wanted to get on the wrong side of. Oh, he pitied Larrimore right now, but better the Pinsir hybrid than himself.

Clare awakened in the morning to the sound of a raucous crowd crying out for justice, though they didn’t quite understand. They had learned a bit of Paldean from working with the modeling agency, one or two of the staff they’d interacted with being from the region, though they hadn’t realized until now that was the language being spoken. The only words that stood out as they prepared for the day were “justice” and the name Ferdinand. “I wonder what happened?” They asked, as they brushed out their hair, post shower. The blonde locks fell in beautiful curls as they decided to leave it down for the moment, stepping out of the bathroom and throwing on a flowery ankle-length skirt and a solid pink spaghetti strap tank top. Pulling on a pair of sheer white knee-high stockings and a pair of low green sandals.

“There we are! A nice Spring outfit to bring some life to the desert.” They asserted to themself, giving a spin as they looked at themself in the mirror before picking up their SNAG and their bag, noticing as they did that there was a missed message from Larrimore. Shaking their head, they heard Amber calling out for the hybrid in question as they exited their room. “We’ll… I’m glad I’m not a light sleeper.” They muttered, walking quickly and quietly toward the hotel’s cafeteria for breakfast.

~~~
Odd awakened only moments after Clare, blinking a few times as he heard the sound of the crowd outside. “What did those idiots get up to last night?” He asked, positive the others had done something stupid while he slept. Getting up and preparing for the day, he’d find himself growing irritated as he showered and got himself dressed. This was supposed to be a vacation and they’d been in Paldea for less than 24 hours before someone did something to get them all in trouble. “Whichever ones did this can spend some time in jail if that’s what it comes down to…” he decided as he left his room, carrying his limited possessions with him. He wasn’t going to try and defend those who caused this mess this time. He was heading to the cafeteria area as he passed Wren.
“Any idea what’s up?” He asked the other Channeler.
“Yeah… Larrimore made a bad call and we screwed up.” Wren replied, a hand on his forehead as he said it, covering his eyes as if ashamed of his participation in the events that had taken place.
“How bad?” Odd asked, pausing for a moment.
“Mistaken identity. He thought he found a Shadow Tentacruel. Apparently it was a local celebrity. I was reading through the tourism guide this morning and between it and the paperback PokeDex volume I bought at the market yesterday, it looks like we beat up a regional variant of some sort that’s a local celebrity. For no reason.” Wren explained. “I’m heading out there to try and apologize… Dunno if it’ll do any good, though…”
“You do that.” Odd replied, shaking his head. “At least it sounds like it wasn’t an intentional crime. Maybe they’ll understand?” He offered before continuing on to the cafeteria.
~~~

Wren arrived by the hotel’s front entrance where the other’s who’d been involved had begun to gather, noticing first and Forwmost than Deo seemed to be highly agitated for no apparent reason and secondly that several others had already said their piece to him in that regard. So he spoke only two words to the massive hybrid. “Down kitty!” He asserted, a Nest Ball opening in his waist and his Cacturne, Hemlocke appearing at his side as a large number of thorny vines formed a sort of shell around Deo and carefully pulling down down to a kneeling position. If he resisted, those thorns would hurt but otherwise, the vines only tightened if he moved to avoid them until he looked less ready to fight.

“I was one of those that attacked last night.” He announced to the crowd. “We made a mistake, thinking your Ferdinand was infected was the Shadow Virus and tried to protect your town, in the dark of night, we didn’t see that it wasn’t what we thought until after we attacked. We can only apologize for our actions and beg your forgiveness.” He bowed his head apologetically at that point, though he was prepared to move if he was truly attacked. So far it looked like the crowd was angry and loud but no violent.

Freth would have returned to the hotel, and eventually as did Tristen shortly after when he was sure that the Toedscruel was okay, helping to get it back to his feet-...tentacles...whatever. With that said, it wasn't as if that the Pokemon was all that grateful for it. After all, it was ganged up on out of the blue. Tristen ended up having to making a break for it before anything major happened to him.

With the three of us finally back, it was finally time to rest...hopefully with no other false alarms out of anyone. Come the next day, however, the Snagems would awake to a loud riot from the outside of the hotel. Freth and I sat up in bed immediately, looking towards the window. I got up and peered out, cracking open the curtains just enough to see outside, wincing a bit from the sunlight that was being let in. "Ugh, what...what are they saying?" I wearily asked.

"I don't know...something about justice?" Freth said, rubbing her eyes.

"Justice? God, did some sort of political figure piss off this populace off too?" I asked, starting to think this is yet another Lysandre situation.

"Ugh, let's get going...I got a feeling that it might be a bit of a pain trying to leave this morning." Freth said.

Despite the begging from his team, Terashi in front of him, it was not till Wren said "Down Kitty!", he was furious, but he knew, he was no cop anymore. The feeling of the shell and thorns in him made him scared, the pain, the torture, the feeling of thorns along his body felt of needles and as Deo lost his focus and went to turn to Wren, blood was visible as he fought the thorns and it hurt. The pain reminded him of being stung by a thousand wasps. As he turned around, he looked to wren and sparks flew from his cheeks as Wren would then receive a punch straight to the face. Afterward, Deo would crouch down and enter a position of defending himself. "GET AWAY FROM ME!!!" he would cry as if he was being stung by a thousand wasps, which happened when he was a kid, but the people could not hear it, but he was hearing the thousands of wasps swarming in around him.

Aile would be greeted by the sight of a Vivillon hybrid staring at her with a smile on his face as she entered the little breakfast buffet the hotel had set up. Gesturing to a table already prepped with a few cups for coffee, a steaming pot of coffee, and a few pastries, Beau would say, "Care to join the greatest spectator sport known to man? Cause, oh boy, its like watching a train wreck." It seemed Beau was reveling in the fact that for once he had absolutely no relation to what was going wrong. Must have been a new sensation for the usually persecuted hybrid to have absolutely nothing he did be a reason for this disaster.

Crystal's ears would flick back as she heard the release of a Pokémon, head turning as the confrontation between Wren and Deo happened. "Light blind you both!" She'd dart over to put herself between the two, the Solgaleo hybrid handily catching his fist in her own hand quite easily, not giving him the opportunity to crouch down just yet. "Deo, stand your hide down now and get out of here! You are officially being a hinderance to this situation. Cool down and walk away from the area, those of us with calmer heads will take over form here." Her blue eyes seemed to be glowing brighter than normal as she threw his fist to the side, giving the Luxray hybrid a furious glare. Not that she wasn't irritated at Wren, either. She felt that the comment towards Deo wasn't quite needed, nor were the actions he took when there was already an upset crowd in front of them. With a deep breath to calm herself, she'd more calmly say, "Get breakfast. Do something else. Just get away from the people now, please." The hybrid would keep her stare on him until he left, and if she needed to, she'd put force into getting him to move. In her eyes, Deo was a powder keg at the moment, and she didn't want the explosion to happen in front of regular civilians.

She would have one thing to ask of her other teammate, however, keeping her eyes on Deo all the same. "And Wren? Please recall your Pokémon." Light pray that they got out of there without causing a full blown riot at this point.

Shaking, but getting up, where he was was a small puddle of blood, it may have only pierced a little, but his resisting made the cut, a torrent. He went to the buffet as he went the crowd was parting as he was bleeding alot, he got 3 plates high of cultural cuisines and as he ate he was not only eating, but tears were coming down from where he was stung, and also his flashback. The food was delicious and he kept woofing it down, going back about 4-5 times for another plate full. the whole while he seemed to slowly recover, but now he would be not only stress eating, but even though he seemed to get better, he only got weaker. Though he had only left a puddle of blood, he felt like it was much more. Though as he finished up, his wounds were starting to heal themselves and he just sat and watch outside, the water on the sea, the clouds in the sky, and he lost all focus in the area, as he watched outside, into blankness.

Aile looked over the spread Beau had set up on the table, tilting her head. "It's like you were expecting to flag someone down... Sure." She'd slide her backpack down her arm, letting it hit the floor with a thud as she took a chair to sit in. "It certainly is a train wreck. I'm just wondering if one of the engines will explode now." She'd pour herself some coffee and add some sugar to it, taking a drink and setting it down before grabbing one of the pastries. "Do you happen to know the specifics of whatever the hell happened last night," she'd ask, watching Deo as he walked past for a moment before her head turned back forward. "Because something had to have gone wrong for this to have happened."

----------

With Deo walking away, Crystal let out a large sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Light burn me to slag," she'd mutter, tail underneath her skirt flicking back and forth in annoyance as she took some deep breaths to calm herself. Please let this be the worst it got.

Larrimore was pushed out in front of the angry mob by Amber, the Pinsir hybrid gripped by fear as his eyes met those of the collective mob, the grand majority of them humans. Flashbacks of the angry bigots back home coming to lynch a hybrid rushed through Larrimore's head, the hybrid unable to speak let alone move as he stood there and quickly began to hyperventilate. He was completely to blame for this entire mess, he knew that, and he wanted to apologize, but fear got the best of the usually dour 'knight' and now all he could do was sweat and hope they make his untimely death quick and painless.

"Enough!" Sub shouted as he finally arrived on scene, his voice drowned out by the crowd's chants for justice for their tentacle friend. Deciding he needed to get the crowd's attention one way or another Sub took out a Dusk Ball and tossed it into the air, the ball bursting open in a shadowy display and from within appeared Vlademar the Hydreigon, the three-headed dragon letting out a fierce and savage roar, instantly gaining the attention of the crowd, their chants immediately ceased as they went silent before the Brutal Pokemon. Looks like Hydreigon was known to this region, that was convenient.

"People! I'm the leader of my group, the ones responsible for your friend...Ferdinand...being harmed! As leader I take all responsibility but please, calm down!" He asked, Vlademar hovering above him, snarling at the group. Taking note that the people gathered were still paying more attention to the beast above him Sub let out a sigh and recalled his Pokemon, his usefulness since passed for the moment. "Like I was saying, we're sorry and I take responsibility. Our name is Team Snagem and we were only trying to help, as others have explained before me." The Snagem leader continued.

The crowd would slowly become more lively, starting with hushed whispers as the group began to acknowledge it was Team Snagem, the group's reputation apparently preceding them but that was unsurprising. Signs would be lowered and a few people would disperse while others began to shout angry again, however before it could get too rowdy again the police showed up, forcing the crowd to settle down and move on, then the owner of the hotel would appear, trying to flag Sub down. With a sigh Sub would walk up to the woman and speak to her for several minutes before returning to his group.

"You guys go get your things from your rooms and gather at that motorcycle Pokemon station...thing...from yesterday." Saying no more Sub would walk off.

-----

Some time later, with everyone gathered at the designated area and Larrimore somewhat more calmed down, Sub would arrive, backpack thrown over his shoulders and a resigned look on his face. "We're headed to the region's capital, Mesagoza, we've been summoned by the league." He said, his tone slightly annoyed. "Apparently they keep an extremely close eye on things in this region and our presence was noted the moment we set foot here. Now there is someone at Naranja-Uva Academy who wishes to see us all in person. I contacted Hoenn's consulate here in Paldea already and it was heavily suggested we go." With that said he turned to face Sol. "What's our quickest route to Mesagoza? They haven't exactly offered us a teleport ride so we're hoofing it."

I stared transfixed at what Wren did to Deo for a bit, though it was pretty clear that his spazzing out post cactus vine cocoon was not something he'd be snapped out of easy. Probably PTSD or some childhood trauma triggered somehow. Was he having a panic attack? Kind of looked like it. Regardless, Sub finally showed up and, between him and the cops, the crowd dispersed. Then after he spent some quality time with someone who I assumed was a manager for the hotel, Sub gave the go-ahead to disperse. With that, I headed back to the room Keiko and I were in.

"What happened?" Keiko asked when I got there, looking at list a little bit less annoyed.

"The pokemon Larrimore had us gang-battle last night was apparently a local celebrity," I explained as I started packing. "A few of us tried to calm the crowd, except for Deo who seemed like he was actively trying to piss them off. Starting to think he's holding on to his previous occupation a bit much."

"Okay, why are you packing?" she asked, looking a bit worried.

"Sub showed up, used his Hydregion to get the crowd's attention, then told them what the rest of us had been saying," I answered. "Then the actual cops showed up. Then, a woman who I assume was the manager of the hotel had a conversation with Sub."

"Probably," I shrugged. "Didn't exactly hear what was said, but Sub did say to gather at the Pokecenter kiosk... I think. His exact words were 'motorcycle Pokemon station thing.'"

"Oh, he probably meant that fence where a bunch of green Pokemon with wheels for legs were in," Keiko pointed out.

"Oh, yeah," I muttered, as I hadn't thought of that. We proceeded to gather our belongings in silence, then headed out together. Though, a thought hit me as we entered the lobby. "Lemme check something real quick. I'll catch up with you," I told Keiko.

~*~

I messaged Absinthe via GRAY, recalling that I didn't see her in the lobby earlier. After a few minutes of waiting, I didn't get a response, so I figured I knew where she was. I headed up back uppstairs and started checking doors, most of which were locked, until I came across Abby's, whose wasn't.

"What do you want?" Abby grumbled when I opened her door. I didn't see her right away, but her light was off and her window was covered.

"Sub gave the order to vacate," I explained. "We're to head to the motorcycle Pokemon pen we saw on the way up here."

"Uggghhhh... turn the light on and close the door," Absinthe ordered.

I turned the light on and closed the door, giving Absinthe the privacy needed to, I assumed, get dressed. "I've been trying to sleep for the past half-hour while the locals screamed at my window in some ching-chong language, so I'm understandably grumpy," Abby warned through the door.

"Larrimore had us gang-battle what he thought was a Pokemon infected with the Shadow Virus. Turns out with was a Shiny regional variant of a Tentacruel, and a local celebrity."

"Well, that's stupid," Absinthe huffed as she opened her door, dressed and packed. We didn't say anything after that, and headed out quietly to avoid any straggling mob members.

Crystal watched Sub eventually get the crowd to disperse, letting out an even larger sigh and hanging her head forward in relief. Thank goodness it was over. A brief look around would point out to her that she hadn't seen Darts around since last night, nor had she seen Doc Owl at all during the night. "Huh. Well, let's not have them be late and miss all of this stuff..." She'd head back up to the rooms and went hunting around mentally for them, reaching out with the lightest of mental prodding, just enough to try and figure out who was who. When she finally settled on the room, she'd walk up to the door and pound on it. "Hey, Doc, Darts! You two might want to get ready to go if you're not! We're going to be heading out soon, meeting up at the Ride Pokémon station!" She'd wait right next to the door to wait and see if they'd come out soon.

Wren nodded to Crystal and recalled Hemlock to his ball. "Apologies, Space Princess, but I felt like the 8-foot-tall walking anger management problem looking like he wanted to fight everyone in the crowd wasn't exactly ideal and words didn't seem like they were working." He responded with a sigh. "I didn't expect him to lose his mind like that. I'll apologize to him when this is over." He sighed at that point, spotting Sub arriving at that point and proceeding to do what none of the rest of them had and convincing most of the crowd to disperse with a little display of force without actually showing any of such force. Once the crowd had dispersed and Sub gave the order to vacate the hotel, he would head to his room, recover his scattered items and then head back to the lobby, where he would wait until he was sure if Deo was back to himself and moving or not before approaching him, wherever he was at that point.

"Hey... Sorry for that earlier... It just seemed like you were way too ready to fight and nobody else was getting through to you at the time. I didn't mean to set you off like that. I was just trying to make you look less threatening to them." He explained. "You are a giant compared to most people and a hybrid that could probably easily take on a dozen or more people in a fight without breaking a sweat." He pointed out. "I did deserve that punch you tried to give me, though..." He admitted with another sigh."Would it make you feel better if I let you hit me now?"

~~~
Clare and Odd had both returned to their rooms after they'd eaten, but not before they spotted Sub heading outside and going to see what he was going to do to disperse the crowd outside. Odd retrieved his things and headed out fairly quickly with little to collect save for his bag. Clare, however, found themself with a bit of a mess to clean up upon finding that their Pokemon Egg from the market had hatched. The small, rather zesty Pokemon that sat on their bed in the mess of shattered eggshell was certainly adorable, they had to admit. "I wonder what you are?" They asked it as they picked the recently hatched critter up and held it in their arms, collecting the last bit of their possessions and heading back out.
By the time Sub arrived, Odd would be hanging around the edge of the group while Clare was playing with their Capsakid, trying to decide on a name for it. "Do you like Mirage?" They asked it, holding it up to the sky. The little Pokemon closed it's eyes and basked in the sun for a moment but didn't respond.
Monique was in the crowd, largely unnoticed, when Sub tried to get its attention with his massive Hydreigon. It took some time for him to do so, but he finally got through. After a few moments and the recognition of who this actually was, the group mostly dispersed. Sub gave the order to vacate the hotel, though Monique was actually already out of there.
***
Everyone eventually gathered at the parking area, Monique having shifted from the "native Paldean" look she was using to her more typical human visage. It looked like they were wanted in Mesagoza, which apparently was some distance from here. Well, time to prepare for a long trip, she thought, waiting for Sol to announce how exactly they were going to get there.
Beau would give a chuckle at Aile's question, grabbing another of the croissants off the plate of them he had before answering. "So, apparently, Larry cried Lycanroc at some point last night and a few Snagems accidentally took out the local town mascot because they thought it was a Shadow Pokemon. Was talking with Aria about it when the crowd started gathering and she bolted out of here, so I'm guessing she helped with whatever they did to poor old Ferdinand." Beau giggled out, still smiling and chomping away at his bit of pastry as he continued to watch the crowd outside and the flailings of every Snagem collapsing at the first vague pushback from something they couldn't punch.
But Beau's mirth would melt away immediately as Larrimore was shoved in front of the crowd, the Pinsir hybrid's panic easily readable for Beau. Keeping his eyes locked onto the crowd, he would slowly grab something out of his bag with his one hand as the other snapped open and lit his lighter. And just as Beau prepared to light and launch whatever he was grabbing out of his bag, Sub would erupt onto the scene and some some actual grace under fire compared to the other Snagems who had just thrown a man in front of an angry crowd, looked prepared to commit random assault and battery on civilians, and had only managed the vaguest attempt at placation before this. Another metallic click would sound as the lighter was snapped shut and Beau resumed eating breakfast like he hadn't just been preparing to commit crimes again. "So, let's finish breakfast. Because I get the feeling Sub is about to agree to some stuff involving us for what happened last night." Beau continued, doing his best to act like the conversation hadn't paused at all between him and Aile.
-----
Reno would be beside Sub at the strange pitstop, looking over what could of the messages they had been sent for their trip to Mesagoza and a map of the general area he had grabbed from their waiting area. "I feel like they might hate us a bit. No matter how we leave here, we have to walk through a lot of desert to get to anywhere else and they didn't exactly offer any transport besides the old shoe leather express." Glancing up from his map, he would look towards Leslie. "I'm amazed you didn't end up there. Free reign to start a fight?"
"Nope. Had other things to be sure on. Didn't wanna miss this. Or not have GRAY immediately confirm things for me." Leslie shot back, eyes locked onto the former occupant of the egg she had received last night.
"What kind of Pokemon is that? And did it come with the little metal rattle or what?"
"GRAY isn't sure what Mori is. All I know is she's a Fairy type and she's just what I'm needing." Leslie whistfully said, giving a giggle before devolving into a small coughing fit as she continued to play with the small pink Pokemon that now sat at her side. "Also.....bill for my room might be a little higher. I couldn't let this little darling not make what she so desperately wanted."
Sighing, Reno would sit back down on his bike, mentally tallying up how much metal this....whatever had used to make that rattle and where it likely came from. He could see bathroom trim, some hinges, a few drawer rails, and.....was that the front door panel from the hotel safe? Well, this wasn't likely to be cheap. But given what else happened yesterday, barely a footnote.
Aria would be a hair away from the rest of the group, frantically attempting to run what she could for PR for Snagem to help them weather the public backlash they were (rightfully) receiving. As long as she did her best to remember the guidelines of what other internet personalities doing apologies looked like and avoided all of those steps at all possible, this should be fine. But herself personally might need to do something a little extra in order to get opinion back behind her and the rest of Snagem. Maybe her own little personal trip out to Levincia should be expedited after they got whatever brow beating awaited them at Mesagoza?
