Sorry to burst your bubbles, but anime and manga are considered nerdy or geeky - in a social aspect. There are also a lot of things that are considered geeky or nerdy in culture (figure-collecting, video games, etc). If you like anime (or manga, or figure-collecting, etc) then why fight over it's 'definition'? Why does it matter if it's classified 'geeky' or 'not-geeky'?
That's my 2 cents. And i'm a proud anime-watcher, manga-reader, figure-collector (and, recently, maker), video gamer... and other things. I don't personally CARE whether something is labelled geeky or nerdy or not... there are bigger battles in life then arguing over what something is going to be labelled as.
