Jack had talked to Pierre on the way to the hot springs then the two men had stopped at the cave. Jack set up camp and the two men fished for the next several days, discussing potential paths to Pierre's homeland. The enemy figured they'd kill of Pierre's kind and weren't really looking for them.

Don't mean more ain't been created. Get out another plane, they plenty portals here from everwhere else.

Damn, I know Jack. It isn't just the refugees here. You know what they'd do to everyone here.

Jack sighs. Both men know there isn't much they can do.

Pierre figures he's probably been away from his establishment too long and the two men shake hands before Pierre leaves. Jack watches him go, shaking his head.

Damn fool betta have a talk with them staff o'his. Not the geezers would hurt em.

He clears up the campsite, collecting a few stray beer cans and putting out the fire. Taking the bag with him, he follows the lake path back to Chatty Kathy's and comes in through the patio. He tosses the bag in the bin, nods to the staff and walks out the door.

Shifting to coyote form, he trots off through the underbrush sniffing the air occasionally. His golden eyes glow in the dark.

*Finishing her espresso on the way to Kathy's, she tosses the cup in the trash as she comes through the door. She stops and has a quick conversation with Pierre then slips back out.*  

[Lil Brat]

*A very faint voice echos in Pierre's head. He barely recognizes her, the sound is so quiet. He heads out the back door, crossing the patio. Several minutes later, he finds Brat sprawled out next to the springs, clutching a book in her hands. Picking her up gently, he carries her back to the bar, moving past his staff and takes her to his office. He lays her down on the sofa and attempts to take the book to put it aside, but her fingers are too stiff to let go. He probes her mind, finding her awake, but barely. Nodding softly, he covers her with a blanket and retreats.*
