It seemed like everyone was settling in, and those that weren't were soon to be settled. Giving a glance toward the shore one last time, she picked up the lantern and looked back over the boats. "All right, we're heading off! Keep your limbs in the boats, and we won't have any issues here. Go ahead and enjoy the view. Pretty sure that it's going to impress." She tapped the wood of the boat, and it lurched forward, the other boats doing the same. Soon the lake was filled with boats making the yearly crossing from the shore to the castle.

                                                              Kai managed a smile as his assumptions were correct about Cy--or Cyrus's--name, though personally had no opinion on it. Who was he to judge someone by their name? His father's name was Solomon, and his two cousin's names were Devonte and Layton, for goodness sake. And he hadn't met very many Kai's before him, not that he was complaining. "I'm sure it's not as bad as you might make it out to be. Could be worse. Generic, maybe. And thanks, not many people comment on my name of all things."

                                                              Once the girl was in the boat, who introduced herself as Annie, and then offered up a slew of other nicknames started talking, he realized how vastly different she seemed to be. She didn't seem to mind oversharing, and in fact embraced it. She had a lot to say, that was for sure.

                                                              Kai shrugged his shoulders as the topic of conversation went from names to houses. "I don't know. I have a cousin in Slytherin who's kind of a jerk, though I think he's in the minority. My other cousin in Hufflepuff says that one is good, though I honestly don't care which one I get sorted into." Kai gripped onto the edge of the boat with one hand as it lurched forward, staring down at his reflection in the dark water.

When the girl took Tamaki's hand to step into the boat, she grabbed her hand in a firm but gentle to ensure that her new friend would not lose her balance and upset herself or the both of them into the murky waters below. She had no idea if anything lived in this lake, but was not interested enough to go diving down there on her first day here. Once she was aboard, she seemed to be having some trouble adjusting her balance and sat down quickly so she would not throw herself off the watercraft. Once seated, Tiki released her grip from the female's hand and placed it onto the edge of the boat as the girl spoke.

She introduced herself as Corinna, Cori for short which Tiki did find pretty interesting. One of those names that would leave a person expecting a boy if they had never met her. She would not be telling this to Cori though, not wanting to come off as sounding rude or strange. After her introduction, Corinna explained her reasoning for being so pleasant to Tiki and most likely, anyone who she would ever speak with. It did sound quite awkward, but Tiki could sympathize with her. She was known to let little things like that slip in while she was speaking. Hopefully there would be no public speaking classes at Hogwarts. If there were, she dreaded what her grades would be by the semester's end. "Well, thank you anyway. I'm not what you'd call a people person. I'm more of a bookworm. Reading, writing, studying and the like." Tamaki admitted to Cori while looking out to the scenery across the lake. Now that they were slightly closer to the school than previously, Tiki could only stare at the sight that was the Hogwarts castle and grounds. It looked like a picture taken from an old book, only refurbished with care taken into preserving every piece of stone. It truly was an amazing view. "You said your mother went here, correct? What classes did she take? Are you going to do the same ones she did?" It seemed to be getting pretty close to all the boats being filled, as Tiki could see a few boats sailing ahead of the group.

Corinna felt the boat lurch beneath her and momentarily panicked, gripping the side of the boat with one hand, the bench beneath her with the other. They'd begun sailing across the lake with the other boats, and they began drawing closer to the castle. Corinna relaxed, and let herself be excited once more. She took up the lantern at the front of the boat, listening to her friend speak all the while. "Sounds like my Dad, always studying and thinking. He's a teacher in our village," Corinna added. "I like doing all that stuff too, but more than that I like finding out how things work. I got in trouble a lot when I was younger, I'd always be taking something apart to see what made it tick. Sometimes it was mum's mixer when she needed to bake something, or the like. I like sketching, too, mostly stuff I see or think about." Corinna patted her bag, notebook and pencils tucked safely inside, for emphasis. They glided through the inky waters of the lake, the breeze cool on Corinna's face. She considered Tiki's question of taking the same classes her mother had. "Yea, it was my Mum that went here. She told me she was good at Herbology and something about magical creatures, as she's a magizoologist. She brings home little creatures sometimes, and I love them. She makes simple elixirs and such out of her garden, and I like helping her sometimes. Yea, I'd say I'd take classes like that. I'm real interested in healing, I think, and transfiguration, and I see her use plenty of charms around the house. I think I'd like to take everything I can, really; I love learning." Corinna smiled and her eyes lit up as she spoke, elated at the thought of finally taking classes at Hogwarts. Her mum had told her some about Hogwarts while she was growing up, and even more after she'd gotten her letter. Her mother had been vague, though, and hadn't given many details. She wanted Corinna to explore things and learn for herself, without bias, as her mum put it. "How about you?" Corinna asked her friend. "Will you take the classes your Dad did?"

A little trinket of sorts, made of what seemed to be glass, but with a colored substance inside. Even on his boat the boy’s attention seemed to be honed in on the thing, an expression of sheer concentration on his face as his tongue promptly darted out from between his lips. ”Guh… come on….” Muttering a plethora of curses under his breath, the boy flicked the little glass trinket with his fingers, watching as the colors changed with every flick. ”Oh dragon bogies…”

Liam shuffled along toward the lake among a large group of children, roughly his age, but not necessarily his size. While he wasn't a giant by any means, he did notice that he was on the taller side of the spectrum, which was vast, to say the least.

The dark-haired woman led the group to a collection of boats at the water's edge, the surface a piercing black that reflected the lanterns like glass. Without hesitation, the boy slipped into an empty vessel, not even thinking to make conversation with any of the other kids. Although Liam had a book tucked in his robes for this very occasion, he felt overloaded with the abundance of new information that surrounded him on all sides, and couldn't help but analyze every piece of it.

The first year watched as children loaded themselves into the boats, most of them awkwardly, with an obvious fear of taking an accidental dip into what appeared to be relatively cold and mysterious waters. His attention was focused primarily on one thing at a time, though his subconscious seemed to take note of everything in the background. It was in this very manner that he found himself caught up in a conversation between three girls in the boat next to his, each of them seemingly excited to make the trip across the water. Before he even realized how long he had been listening, he was already informally acquainted with them. Perhaps very informally would be more appropriate, as he had only overheard them address each other by name. Jazzy, Lynn, and Minnie.

Minnie. The non-traditional aspect of the name caught Liam's attention, and he immediately began to wonder the girl's ancestry, curious as to whether the two were tied together, or if her parents were simply endowed with creative minds. Or perhaps the name had a deeper meaning behind it. While the matter interested him enough to ask about it, he didn't want to interrupt to girls and their conversation, and refused to come off as rude for eavesdropping—intentional or not.

Tucking the concern away for a later time, perhaps when he had access to the library to look into it, or if he happened to bump into the red-headed first year later in the night, Liam turned his attention to the other side of the lake, toward which each of their boats were now fast approaching.

Corinna wasn't the only one who looked quite surprised when the boat they were on began to moved forwards, trailing along with the rest of the boats containing the other first years like the two of them. She let out a small gasp at the sudden movement, but relaxed when she realized that everything seemed to be going according to plan. "Heh...Sorry." She apologized for no reason, the apology being one of her default replies when she done done something embarrassing.

Cori began to link Tiki up with her own father, saying that he was like her and taught in the village that the fiery haired girl was from. It did seem interesting being a teacher, or even one of the professors here. She never really though about it, but she did find it interesting and exciting to teach others some new things, though the closest she had to experience was trying to teacher her parents how to play the latest edition of wizarding cards. "Wow. I'm sure he's respected then." She added before Corinna began to delve more into herself. As she had told Tamaki, she definitely was a curious young aspiring wizard. While Tiki was also curious when she was an infant or so, she was never curious enough to disassemble something. Mainly, her issue was that she liked to wander off which led to many days when an entire shop was shut down so they could track down a child who had become separated from their parents so they could roam around uninterrupted. Thankfully, she had grown out of that phase, or so she had told herself.

Next came the topic about Corinna's mother and the classes she took here. Cori introduced her as a magizoologist that loved the smaller magical creatures and regularly brought them home to Cori's family. While talking about the subjects that would probably be introduced in the first year of classes at Hogwarts, Tiki could tell that her new friend loved to discover new things, recipes, and everything else. It was an affinity for learning that she could probably guess just exactly which of her parents it came from. She let out a small chuckle as she ended her train of thought, nodding a single time in agreement. "I can tell. You should do just fine at Hogwarts then. Especially for the subjects your parents were in." The shy girl gave Cori her own smile, this time a bit more confident.

"My father is a potion mixer, so you can probably tell what classes he was good in." Tamaki began, looking down at the water for a moment. "He took potions classes, then the normal transfiguration, charms, and the others. It looked hard to understand and do, but he always said it was as easy as cooking if the food had a chance of blowing up in your face." Remembering his exact words when he said that, Tiki let out a small sigh. She was going to miss home, but knew it would only be for a while. "My mother was a herbologist. She taught at some academy far away that I could never remember. She was top of her class and said she moved all around to do reports before she met my father. Then she asked to be moved into a position where she could stay in Britain." The next question made Tamaki take a moment's pause to reflect before answering. She looked back at Cori and gave a shrug. "Maybe. I'm not very sure if I'll take the same classes as my parents. I've always wanted to do something with magic, but I don't know what I want to do specifically. I'm sorry if I'm not making sense."

Torn from her brother's side, Savannah had listlessly separated herself from the older students and their uniform colors of a cookie cutter house; different, but still exactly the same. Now she meandered at a slow pace, bright eyes soaking in the starlight and ears mute to the world. Slender fingers shuffled her deck of cards, she only paused as she vaulted into an empty boat at the caretakers discretion—preferring the company of solitude and silence than her fellow students—until she began to shuffle again. A soft radiant glow of colors had distracted her attention, clutched in the hands of a boy on a different boat, she could only stare in wonder as they were each swept across the lake towards the castle. Deciding she would let the cards tell her how to act for her sorting, she ceased her shuffling and plucked two from the middle of the stack. ”Six of spades; act reasonably..... well bullocks, tha's obvious innit?” Savannah breathed a tedious sigh before diverting her gaze to the second card, an eight of hearts. ”A new person will help you...” she fixed her deck a hard stare, ”think you're being funny, do you?” Narrowed vision, she discarded her deck on the wooden seat beside her, tired of its presence already.

Tiki was also momentarily startled as the boat began moving, and it helped Corinna feel a bit better, until Tiki gave an embarrassed apology that sounded automatic. Cori didn't press the issue, but tucked it away for later. It made her sad that some people lived a life of constant apologies, and she wondered briefly if Hogwarts might help Tamaki as she grew and found her own niche in the Wizarding World.

Coming back to the present, Corinna listened as Tiki talked about her family, and Cori was entranced. Both her parents were wizards? What must that have been like growing up? The black-haired girl, confident in her speaking now, mentioned something about the subjects both her parents were in while at Hogwarts. "Oh, my father's not a wizard," Corinna said, blushing that she hadn't clarified this. "He was an engineer before he met my mum, and they traveled around for a while before they settled down with me and he became a teacher at a primary school. I apologize for the confusion." Corinna glanced down at her shoes, then back up at Tiki as she went on about what her parents did. Her father's joke about potioneering being likened to cooking made Corinna laugh. Tiki sighed and grew quiet for a moment, reflecting. 'I wonder if she's homesick already,' Corinna thought.

Tiki said she was unsure of what she wanted to do, and apologized if she wasn't making sense. "That's all right," Corinna said, "I'm sure you're not the only one who doesn't have a career picked out. Even I have no idea what I might do. Who knows? Maybe I've got a hidden talent for fortune-telling," she joked. The castle before them grew ever larger as they became closer and closer to it, until it towered over them right up into the heavens, it seemed. It made Corinna feel suddenly very small, but only for a moment. She was much too excited to be bogged down by simple dimensions. Even the biggest castle, she mused, was measured in feet and inches, the same as she.

"Oh..." Tiki said upon learning that Cori's teacher father was not a wizard, and instead one that dealt with muggles. Her curiosity flared up again, the small student doing her best to hold back her barrage of questions that she wanted to ask Cori in hopes that she could answer. Unfortunately, one crucial question that might make this conversation become heated slipped through as Tamaki could watch watch as she asked the question, "So are you a half blood then?" Immediately after she had asked, she covered her mouth and leaned back. While she knew it was a pretty fragile subject for some, Tiki looked everywhere but in Cori's direct for a while before gathering up enough courage to explain her question. "S-Sorry. Sometimes my mind works faster than my mouth. I don't have a problem with them, so if you don't want to answer, it's all right." She remained quiet for a few more minutes, ashamed at the question she thought was rude to ask point blank in a first meeting.

She rubbed her right arm nervously before looking up at the castle along with Cori. Now that everyone was getting closer, Tiki could make out the enormous size of the castle, and how far away it was. She felt herself calm down from her silent tantrum and eagerly shift in her seat. She wanted to see the entire castle from the top down. It did look to be quite the place to learn, although it was a bit detached from the rest of the wizarding world. Turning back to Corinna, Tiki let out a timid smirk, trying to defuse the heated or awkward situation. "For the record, I'd think you would be an excellent fortune teller."

When we went off away from the forest-
We did travel far to get a taste of so much more.
We dug up the roots of all the stories...
Put them in a pot and brought them to a fiery roar!
We fed on these things without a worry;
Never gave a thought to the coming of the winter storm.
Gone away, gone away, what was yesterday?
Make a meal, make a bed, tuck your feet in-
And resting elbows twice on a table can be nice;
But the comforts, they can be deceiving.

Cy listened as Annie introduced herself. Nope. Definitely not shy. Halfblood or pureblood, most likely. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about when it came to houses. If she was pureblood, she wasn't 'proper pureblood'; he knew the old families, and their children didn't speak like this. He was forcibly relaxing his own speech; the majority of his peers wouldn't be from the same background as him, and if he talked overly formally, he'd be pegged as an upper class snob from the get go. He didn't need that. Annie's sigh was interesting; her thoughts had obviously wandered to something else, but she overcame it pretty quickly. He made sure to pay attention to what Kai said before he opened his own mouth. Neither of his boat mates seemed to be aiming for any one house, or seemed overly concerned about their sortings. Cy genuinely didn't care either; he'd already seen what happened when a Lillantine was not a Slytherin, and honestly, the reaction was almost underwhelming. Mother and Father pretended to care more about Anti's sorting than they actually had. As if anyone really, seriously cared that the middle child, as well as the only daughter, was a Ravenclaw. If Anti had been more vocal and outspoken about her own intelligence it would have been an issue, but she wasn't, and Cy suspected she knew what she was doing when it came to avoiding the wrath of the elder Lillantines. Maybe 'wrath' was too strong a word. No one was ducking Unforgivables at home, after all. No one was getting locked up in the attic. Their parents were far more milder than they could have been. Cy supposed he should feel lucky. "It doesn't matter much to me, either," he shrugged. "Most of my family's been in Slytherin, but I don't think it will be the end of the world if I'm put somewhere else." Vander was probably praying to every god he could name that Cy was sorted into Hufflepuff and promptly disowned, but that was foolish. Father and Mother weren't going to disown an eleven year old. They had a reputation to keep up, and that was of low key bigotry, not 'get out of my house' level intolerance. As the boats began to move, he trailed his hand in the water, wiggling his fingers, almost hoping something surfaced. "You've heard about the giant squid?" he asked lightly.

Now the seasons are not what they once seemed-
The berries all are green though the sun is at a fine high crest...
We lifted our shirts up in a hurry-
Reaching for the belly hollow from the long cold rest!
We slept off all the fat, but they'll be no more of that,
'Cause there must be some disease 'neath the canopy!
Swinging tails from trees, we can gather we need-
Give away what we had a fair share of...
And now the forks and knives with the sacrifice;
With a pair only some can believe in.

Corinna watched, curious, as Tamaki clapped a hand over her mouth and looked severely embarassed. She gently touched her friend's arm in comfort, and smiled at her kindly. "You didn't offend me, if that's what you're afraid of. Hmm," Corinna thought for a moment, "I suppose that does make me half-blood. Is that a serious thing in the Wizarding world?" 'Wonder why mum never mentioned it.' Corinna mentally shrugged it off. She'd write to her mum later.

"No worries," Corinna told the still-embarrassed Tiki. Cori wondered what the big deal was, but waited patiently for her friend to respond. When she lightened the mood with confirmation that Cori would make a good fortune teller, Corinna grinned right along with her.

OOC: That was really cute, btw. It's my first time RPing, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Thank you.

Emma knew right away that she should have asked before getting into the boat. Truthfully she was afraid that one of them would have said no. Oh why didn’t she spot Kai before she got into the boat…? Pushing the thought aside she listened to bother their names. “Nice to meet you Contessa, Kyson.” She said despite it not completely being true. Besides it was just a bad first impression, for all she knew Kyson could be actually nice. Although she was doubtful about that since he hadn’t shown her anything to support it.

When Kyson asked about what house they thought they’d be sorted into, Emma honestly didn’t know. She was new to this whole magic thing and only knew about it from her Uncle. She’d asked him about the houses a while back. Of course, he explained it all to her but she was still unsure of where she would be placed. “I’m not sure… I don’t really fit into any one place. I just hope I’m not like my uncle, everyone said he should have been in Gryffindor instead of Hufflepuff.” She answered. Emma just wanted to fit in. There was nothing wrong with that.

Looking up to the woman as she spoke, Emma wondered what she meant by enjoy the view. Wouldn’t they be rowing? Come to think of it, there didn’t seem to be any way to do that. Maybe magic was involved. Sure enough Emma’s thought about magic was right when the boat started moving on its own. Watching the reflections in the water as they went along she couldn’t wait to catch a view of the castle.

                                                                Marine felt a tiny blush sweep across her cheeks due to Hannah's enthusiasm for the pair becoming friends and doing fun things together like breaking rules and going to secret and forbidden places! It made her feel so good and wanted to meet someone like her. "Of course we are going in the forest! I wonder what kind of magical creatures their are hidden inside."The brunette giggled but soon clutched her seat as the boats lurched forward, catching her off guard. Finally they were off! It felt like an eternity! Glancing over to Hannah with pure excitement, a huge grin was plastered on her face as she gazed around her at the astonishing view that surrounded the pair and the rest of the first years. "Here we go! Oh goodness, Hannah, I'm sorry, but I'm just so overjoyed right now." Marine cupped her own cheeks with her hands and shook her head, baby blues gleaming with the night light. All her mind was doing was trying to catch up to every thought she had streaming through her head. She couldn't wait to be sorted. Apparently it was done by a talking hat! Absolutely insane!

Tiki let out a sigh of relief when learning that Cori had taken no offense from her question, only realizing it was most likely because she had no idea of what the question meant when she asked if it was serious. I have to break this to her gently. I hope she doesn't get upset. The black haired girl thought to herself before taking a deep breath in order to clear her mind. She spoke in a soft, but serious tone of voice, doing her best not to seem too distracted. "Well, there's a lot to a half blood. First, there are wizards and witches. People who can use magic and all that. Then there are what people call "muggles". Muggles are normal people that lack the ability to use magic. Your father is a good example. He may be able to see it to a point, but even if he trained for years, he could never cast any spells."

Tamaki paused for a moment in case Cori had any questions. During this time, she began to play with her dark hair, her index finger swirling in the river of hair as several strands became tangle around it. "Wizards and muggles can have children who may be able to use magic. In some cases, two wizards can have a child who can't used magic, called a squib. Anyway, you've heard the terms "pure-blood" and "half-blood", correct? A pure-blood refers to a wizard or witch whose relatives are wizards, and contain no traces of muggle family members. A half-blood is a wizard or witch that has an ancestor who was a pure-blood at one point. Even if both parents are muggles, their child may be able to use magic because of the distant ancestor."

Now came the hard part to break to Cori. "You see, some people, mainly pure-bloods, look down on half-bloods. They believe that they shouldn't be able to even be welcomed into the wizarding world. They refer to half-bloods as..." Tiki looked around and whispered the derogatory term so only they could hear it. "Mudbloods." She coughed in an attempt to fool those near to think she had paused to sneeze. "You can probably guess why."
