With a flourishing bow Valen lead the way into the party, tongue in cheek so to speak about the events playing out before his eyes. "I should hope Jackie is like her father, as he is a devoted husband, father, and entrepreneur who is frankly quite impressive indeed," he chuckled softly, taking advantage of Maria's comments to the man to soothe him over in part. Striding directly into the throng of people dancing on the main floor the Consort gently maintained close contact to both O'Connors, helping them navigate their way towards a distant corner where he noticed Jackie lounging idly with Nicholas. A devious grin spread onto his features, the look swiftly dismiss as he turned to speak to the parents once again. "Ah there she is. My, and she is speaking with Mr. Sharpe as well. Another person you must meet, though I confess he does take some getting used to as well." His comments rung with a tone of truth for it was not Valen's nature to disparage or openly lie about others, only matters pertaining to himself."

((Ah I could now edit seeing Valen and the parents there, but if Snuggle just posts as them coming over that works just as well, and I'll reply to it. If you dont mind, you can have the parents recognize Nicholas from past dealings.))
Nicholas laughed a bit more as she did, finding it quite contagious. He eyed the crowds of humans as she spoke of them. With an amused look, he returned his focus to her. "Y'know, if you can point out any of these miscreants, and I find that their institution is now owned by us, I'll make sure to deal with such matters personally." Nick stated with a smile. CEAWE was known for it's quality and had to be run well, so he often ended up clearing the management positions of organizations they bought over in order to place some more... well, sensible people in their stead. The Cognitio had little patience for the foolish and ignorant.
Nicholas listened curiously as the human went on about her interests. Books and English, while common, were quite pleasing. Plants on the other hand he had ever had little time to study. "That's quite interesting." He replied softly. "I would love to invite you to a small book club meeting between me and some of my peers one of these days, it would be interesting hearing more of your hobbies. And don't worry, it's not a group of some dusty, old literature enthusiasts. Let us consider ourselves the... Well educated youth." Nick had had unfortunately little time meeting with other Cognitio vampires recently. He had had little chance to catch up on the topics of the day and general banter, being busy with CEAWE business and all. The girl would be a welcome addition to the quiet evening of reading and relaxation. It would also be a good chance to have other clan members assess her worth as well.
-
Within the garage, if one particular Vampire sniffed around hard enough, they would find the vehicle the Cognitio pair had used to get there. While rich for sure, they felt little need in boasting about it with a limo or being driven around by someone else. The car, while appearing the standard model of the Rolls Royce make, was customized to fit their needs. Obviously it transported the most important people in the clan, and as such was very well armored. The windows were blackened so that one did not see in from outside and the door handles electrified so no one went fiddling with the doors without authorization. It was still a casual form of transport though and besides some luxuries inside, it lacked any further extensive protection.

"oh look!" Maria chirpped happily and planted a hand on Valens shoulder, gentil patting it with the affection only a mother had mastered "apparently you have someone who can see through that Callous hide of yours dear” the older woman beamed happly as her husbands face relaxed ever so slightly, his head inclined in a polight nod towards the young man. As barry opened his mouth to adress Valen he was cut off by his wife who yanked his hand once more, pointing to their daughter who was, to maria's shock, immersed in convosation with another male "look there she is dear, come on" looping her arm in valens and keeping a tight hold of her husband's hand the woman pulled the two men towards her daugher, calling jovaly over the crowd "oh jackie dear!"
Jackie laughed and shook her head "nehi, I can't tell you who but I could tell you where they work..." raising her eyebrows playfully Jackie shrugged before laughing once more "you mean your not a dusty old librarian then?" her tone was light and playful showing she didn't mean any harm by her comment "Nehi, and even if it was full of dusty old peope a book club sounds wonderful! according to mum i was born old" grabbing her glass from the floor Jackie eyed the crowed, sipping casualy before she spotted something that made her face pale.
Cough some of the water back into the cup the brown haired woman placed her glass back on the floor, her eyes wide in shock as she spotted her mother weaving through the crowd, valen stuck to her arm as her father marched beside them "...you have got to be kidding me......." turning to face Nicholas jackie pointed to the trio who were less then a foot away "...t..tell me i am seeing things.....please....."
(( i'll have them recognize him in the next post! ))

Keeping apace with the energy from Maria, no small feat it seemed as the woman was a bundle of movement working over towards her daughter, the Immortui gave a gracious smile over towards both Nicholas and Jackie. His gaze was kept politely pleasant so as to avoid giving away the triumph burning away within his veins. He hadn't so much tricked the couple as merely bent the truth about himself in a more positive light, in such a manner that kept him free to speak freely. "You really should have introduced me to your parents sooner Jackie. Your mother is a living testament of both courtesy and grace incarnate, and your father quite frankly is the ideal man of the modern era! It should only makes sense why you are so engaging considering your fantastic heritage." Oh yes, Valen was playing up his favor with the parents to his own private mirth, with immediate dividends evident from the look of disbelief and horror on the girl's features. Part of him almost wanted to continue digging in his victory, but he held back on account of appearances; there would be plenty enough time for what he was plotting.
((Thanks for the post Cake. Now I have something to fall back upon.))

If Marie noticed that Kael was watching her, she didn't indicate it. She continued to silently sketch while the image under her fingertips came to life. It was quite easy to tell that she was fond of abstraction, as her sketch did not appear to be of some specific object, but rather of swirling shapes and would be color. Although, it was quite easy to see what it was about if you just studied it for a few moments. A birds eye view of the dance as her mind had seen it. It was maybe ten minutes later that Marie finished up, and returned the pencils to her purse and pulled out one of those moist wipes from a fast food restaurant to get the smeared graphite off her fingertips. "Well that takes care of that." Marie said quite happily, "If you like we could return to the party now. Or we could take a walk around the gardens. They are quite beautiful." Marie looked over at her companion, finding he had a sort of ethereal beauty in the moonlight. Sort of like he belonged to the darkness. Perhaps he did, if his drawings were any indication.

((Cool))
"Oh you're so cheeky." Nicholas replied with a laugh. He was happy she liked the idea of joining him at a club meeting, he would have to arrange that. Nick was enjoying this more and more until a certain scent caught his nostrils, and Jackie immediately went pale. His head whipped to the direction she was gazing at and Nicholas immediately recognized the problem. 'Touche.' He commented in his mind.
Nick stood up out of his chair and gave Jacqueline a reassuring smile. He did not want her to panic or worry unnecessarily. Valen would no doubt love it the more the girl was stressed due to this meeting.
Nicholas cleared his throat as he turned to the girl's parents and their newly found friend. "Sir, Ma'am, it's a pleasure." He spoke softly and held out his hand to shake with them.
What a bother, just as the evening was going well. Oh it did not have to end badly, but he had no wish to stay near the Immortui for any lengthy period of time. As long as the evening ended well then Anastasie could negotiate a protective pact on the O'Conner family with Sable and prevent this from escalating.

Barry laughed and took Nicks hand, shaking it tightly he stepped away from his wife "look Maria don't you recognize him! he's grown a fair bit since we last seen him! ahh~ its good to see you Nick!" Maria turned to face her husband nodding only half heartedly "oh yes yes I rember! how nice to see you again dear, goodness it seems my little angel is getting more and more popular" the older woman patted Valens hand fondly.
Jackie visibly stiffened at her parent’s behaviour, sheer horror apparent on her face as she turned her head slowly towards valen, his eyes hold an almost playful challenge towards the younger female.
A forced smile spread its way across her face, her right eye narrowing dangerously in the male’s direction “Nehi, mum…” again Jackie flinched, Valen defiantly had the advantage here. Not only could she not attack him (physically or verbally) her vocal habit would also now be present with her family around. Opening her mouth like a gold fish Jackie flushed bright red as her mother stepped forward, thrusting valens arm out towards her daughter, her chipper attitude never faltering as her daughter audibly growled in frustration at the thought of having to shake this mans hand. when she got the chance she was going to kill the basterd with her bare hands.

How Valen resisted the urge to laugh at the top of his lunges even he couldn't say. Perhaps it was the years of practice at suppressing his emotions at a moment's notice whenever he dealt with humans, or it could even be his mastery of himself compared to the majority of his Clan. Regardless it was clear from his scent rising off his body unnoticed to any save a vampire he was absolutely enjoying the irony of the situation he had provoked all in the name of providing himself a suitable distraction. "Come now Jackie don't make that much fuss. I won't bite, especially not when you're so happy to see me," he smiled over towards her, shaking her hand demurely as was properly expected of him. Turning over his shoulder at the crowd dancing, the original couples now away from the primary area resting from their exertions, the vampire turned back to her parents for a simple enough request. The aroma of her fury wafted to his nostrils as he spoke, his expression giving away nothing on how very pleased he was to have her rightly snared in his social trap. "My Lord and Lady O'Connor, Ms. Jacqueline, if you would be so kind as to allow me the right to ask Jackie for a dance or two I would be your humble servant to the end of my days." He doubted he could have enraged her better short of kissing her before her parents there as witnesses, and even that action might not have been enough to break her self-restraint.

"Mr and Mrs O'Conner," Nicholas stayed as formal as was appropriate, "you did not inform me you had such a wonderful daughter." He kept his calm, a smile ever present on his smooth lips. This meeting would have been so much nicer had the Immortui not been present. He could only compare it to having a really fancy meal, but on the opposite end of the table was the rotting carcass of a dead animal. The putrid stench was ever present even if it would not do anything directly harmful.
There was one thing he could do to drag her out of this and his eyes caught a glimpse of the dancing going on behind the trio. Valen had that same idea it seemed when he brought it up. "Oh, my apologies Mr Paendragon, Mr and Mrs O'Conner." Nicholas interrupted. His hand had clasped Jackie's in a gentle grip. He held their joined hands up for them to see. "I must insist, we were just heading to the dance floor. If only to be fair, Jacqueline should choose who she would prefer to dance with." Nicholas turned to Jackie with a smile and a pleading look. She just had to say she was dancing with him, and they could be away from this, for a while at least.
((It is SO tense xD))

"Oh my, I had forgotten my manners Mr. Sharpe. It is only proper for you to take the first dance with our loving mutual companion. Surely she is more than capable of sharing a second dance with me; if not, I can merely wait and entertain her with some polite conversation." Valen recognized the intentional dismissal of his presence in the same method he was doing the same to Nicholas; neither Consort could stand the presence of the other though each had separate reason to do so. Where as Valen was opposed to Sharpe based off what he had personally experienced and nothing else, his counterpart had more noble sentiment in his dislike rooted in acting in Jackie's defense. Just what I need. A knight in shining armor who just so happens to abstain from the sunlight. And I thought the man was troublesome before. Alas, I dare not attack him immediately. Both our Origins would tear us apart for the indiscretion. At least his would. I doubt Sable cares overly much if I butcher a member of another Clan. In contrast to the image of a rotting carcass for himself the Immortui considered his Cognitio adversary as akin to an used adhesive strip floating in a freshly poured bowl of soup. The mere sight of the offensive item was enough to sully the meal in its entirety and only the most flexible of personas could rebound against such an affront. Continuing in the same vein as before the Consort dipped forward to kiss Jackie's hand still locked between his fingers, turning back to face her parents. "I do insist he go first as he was here before me. I will content myself to just watching Jackie interact with others in a social setting, something I'm sure you both can agree with me is a naturally rare occurrence."
((It's not a problem Snuggle. We understand. Do what you need to do and I hope you have a good and swift day at work.))

Nicholas bowed his head respectfully in reply. "Most generous of you." He stated simply and lifted his head. He had been here to relax but this certainly was an obstacle. Nick had lowered the hand holding Jackie's one against their sides, and now squeezed her hand gently in a bid to try and calm her down. It was a battle of nerves right now, and while Nicholas may have everlasting patience the rest of the participants were a bit more volatile. Which just might work in his favor.
Valen, no matter the sugarcoated words he spat out, had a hint of a dangerous intent under his actions. Not only that but his body reacted to any weakness he could drain from the human. If it went far enough and the man broke his calm right here in public, yet he himself remained seemingly innocent, it would be over and, Nick figured, in his benefit.
Nicholas lifted the hand holding onto his glass of water, and offered it to Valen. "I'll try not to tire the lady out. Please take the time to enjoy the luxurious refreshments our dear Host has spared for the ball." Nicholas then indicated to the buffet table, not too far from them, with his hand. "There are even these quite delicious roasted garlic appetizer's available at the table. I think you might enjoy them." Now, as far as vampires were concerned, that was a direct insult at Valen. The concept of garlic hurting someone a big, unfunny joke in their culture.
((I'm well amused, lol.))

Valen smiled directly towards Nicholas after his imminent taunt, his features betraying nothing about the familiar taunt of their race. "Indeed I just might, though perhaps it seems as though our good friend Mr. Sharpe has yet to sample a few. If you don't mind me..." The Immortui parted briefly to grab a set of the roasted garlic appetizers, in addition to a helping for five people of some bruschetta (roasted bread rubbed with garlic & topped with olive oil, salt, and pepper) served with prosciutto for a natural compliment of meat and seasoning. He also made a special effort of including a sterling silver miniature serving fork, each formed in the image of carved wooden stakes, on top of Nicholas' two plates, suggesting he had plucked them freshly made from the servers. And to the humans around them that is indeed what it would seem like. However, to both of the inhuman males that comprised of their party, they were a blatant insult suggesting a piece of carved wood would be an instant death that was nothing less than ridiculous. Returning back to the O'Connors and the Cognitio he passed out the twin plates due to everyone, taking special care in handing off Sharpe's without elaborating on his counter-response. "Dig right on in everyone. Oh and Mr. Sharpe, I've heard tales that these forks make the food taste even better than usual, so please enlighten us as to the veracity of these tales." Valen knew that he could count on the enthusiastic support from Mrs. O'Connor in completing his silent ploy of aggression, taking the time to pluck his own roasted garlic appetizer first happily enough.

(( Lol xD Nice)) Well he sure did not expect that. The length the other vampire went to in his response was going beyond mean to simply hilarious. He certainly had a good eye for garlic foods but the concept of stakes, pulling that off was just so skilled. It was quite over the top. Nicholas found himself entertained.
The food was expensive no doubt, tasty too, especially when in such a quantity, but Nicholas had to lift his hand in protest. "I am just about to go work up an appetite with young Miss O'Conner. I simply could not have a single bite until after our dance." If even then. While it was an excuse, there was the fact that if he had eaten too much he would not have felt good spinning on the dance floor.
"Shall we?" Nicholas asked, turning to Jackie. He led her away from the trio and through the crowds to the dance floor. Several individuals were quite excitedly going at it even now. Now the only problem he had was learning to dance in the next 10 seconds before they were out there.
((I've pulled her to the dance now cos I'm going to bed. Snuggle will get to post before I am even back most likely. I'll see you tomorrow.))
