From there on, everything was just kind of a blur for Fiona. Returning to the ship, watching her ex-fiance getting dragged off to be locked away in some room or another until they got back on deck - swearing he'd get revenge all the while, finding that her makeup was now irrevokably ruined, and all that. Honestly, she didn't really care all that much - what was important was Kai's safety. Even after she'd let him go to give him some breathing room, she never let her gaze leave him, as if feeling that he might vanish the moment she might look away. All she could do was offer him a meek apology for all that had happened. Which, for some reason or another, she couldn't bring herself to do. The only thing within her power was to offer him a pitiful look and thank whatever gods there be that Kai was alive and no worse for wear.

For once, Kai wasn't listening to Fiona. He gently held her face and interrupted her constant apologies with a kiss. Maybe he'd never walk again. It didn't matter. He'd put her through enough with the results of his selfish deal and now everything was going wrong. He could at least give her his heart now rather than wait a lifetime. The water around them swirled up in a vortex as Kai reverted to his mer form. His pants had vanished completely as his lower half was once again replaced by his sparkling blue tail, his ears grew back to their elf like point, and his hair was once again the same bright blue as his fins. Maybe he couldn't walk or talk again, but at least he'd have her.

Fiona was initially shocked by Kai's kiss, but she being herself, was ever so quick to adapt. She returned his kiss, whoever watching be damned, and couldn't be happier - all things considered. It was like this dark, disgusting weight had been lifted from her heart, knowing now that Kai might have returned her feelings. But alas, all good things must come to an end, so she reluctantly pulled away with perhaps the goofiest grin she'd ever held. "So...does this mean what I think it does?" Kai didn't seem the sort to take this sort of thing lightly, so she was pretty sure she already knew the answer. Still, it would be nice to hear it from him.

Tears began to stream down Kai's cheeks as he hugged her tight. He wanted to tell her himself, with his own words, but that was out of the question. Pulling from the embrace, he lifted a finger and began to trace something on the side of the ship: 'I LOVE YOU' Despite this proclamation, it was a melancholy smile. He was glad to be with her, glad to have her, but now he'd given up so much to make it happen.

"Wait...Kai, I love you too, but why are you still doin' that? Did you not get your voice back?" Fiona asked, her grin quickly being consumed by a worrisome look.

Kai shook his sadly. 'MY LEGS AND VOICE WERE THE COLLATERAL' He wrote on the side of the ship, ignoring what splinters he may have been giving himself in the process. 'I COULDNT TELL YOU HOW I REALLY FELT OR ID LOSE ANY CHANCE OF WALKING AND TALKING AGAIN' He looked away from her. God he put her through more than any person should have to go through. 'I THOUGHT ID BE HAPPY JUST BEING ABLE TO BE ON LAND WITH YOU BUT THEN YOU HAD TO GET MARRIED TO THAT HORRID MAN AND I' He trailed off again, looking horribly guilty. 'IF I JUST HAD THE GUTS TO TELL YOU SOONER MAYBE NEITHER OF US WOULD HAVE TO BE IN THIS SITUATION' He wrote as he looked up at the deck of the ship where there was likely a crowd of people wanting answers as to the the ex-bride's relationship with the man turned mer.

Fiona was both shocked by Kai's foolishness in dealing with the witch and incredibly flattered that he felt she was worth that sort of hell. Eventually, the later won over, and she pulled him close for another kiss. "What's in the past is in the past. What matters is that we're together now, and that we're gonna make the most of our situation." She offered him the warmest smile she could muster, completely ignoring the shocked onlookers - as well as the lifesaver that her grandfather had just thrown down for them.

Kai took the life preserver and slipped it over Fiona's head before giving her a kiss on the cheek. 'ILL WAIT FOR YOU BACK AT THE BEACH' Kai traced on the ship before giving the rope attached to the lifesaver a tug to let Fiona get pulled up. He could only hope the day's drama kept everyone from going mer-hunting for now.

Fiona gave a small nod, offering Kai one last smile before going on board. "I'll smooth things over as best as I can, I promise." With that, she was pulled on board - and towards the shocked guests of a now ruined wedding. Murmurs of a merman echoed throughout the boat - enough for Fiona's ex-fiance to hear the entirety of the story. He was, naturally, disbelieving at first - but this soon changed to unbridled fury. He continued his swears of vengeance from the room he was locked away in - promising to get Fiona and 'that fish b***h' back for screwing him over as they had.

Kai waved Fiona a fond farewell as she was pulled back up before heading back towards the shore. For most of the way he actually stayed near the surface, showing off his tail for the people on the ship. Cat was out of the bag so there was no point in hiding it. Some tiny part actually hoped the ex-husband-to-be had made his way back to the railing to see him swim off. Kai wasn't even human and Fiona was still doing her best to stay with him.

And indeed, the man had, cursing and yelling at Kai from above before being dragged back to his temporary prison.

Kai was sunbathing back on shore, his tail fin lingering in the waves so as not to dry out completely while waiting for Fiona. After the mess at the ship, he wasn't quite so worried about getting spotted. He was currently fiddling with some shells with a smile as he passed the time by making more sea shell jewelry for her. He was back to his old self, at least with how much he was smiling genuinely again. He couldn't walk and he couldn't talk but at least he had Fiona. In the back of his mind, he knew these peaceful days couldn't last forever though. Fiona's family was still poor, and they still couldn't live in the same world for a proper happily ever after, so no matter how he looked at it he knew they'd be seeing her again someday.

Fiona once more got into a habit of visiting Kai every chance she could, but with soothing over her family's old business associates with the thought of merfolk and with trying to find jobs for everyone to support herself and her family, once more her time was limited. Thankfully, this day was one such free day. Fiona had decided to go barefoot today, wanting to revel in the feeling of the sand beneath her feet as she spent her time with Kai. Instead of shouting in greeting or something like that, she simply approached and sat beside him, a large grin on her lips. "Havin' fun?" she asked, a look of amusement lighting up her amber eyes.

Kai's smile grew a bit when Fiona sat down beside him, though he didn't take his eyes off his work. With a bone needle and a bit of twine, he'd been stringing auger shells and wentletraps together to make a necklace that he was glad to finish in time for her visit. He skipped the greeting by leaning over and tying his creation around her neck, hoping she liked it.

Fiona felt a stupid grin coming on once more as Kai wrapped the lovely gift around her neck, pleased that he would personally make something like this for her. "It's lovely! You're ever so sweet, as always." she complimented, up before offering him a peck on the cheek as thanks.
