Desert Wind Chapter #1: Playing Samurai and Indians

"Son of an Emerald Whore, Zombies?? What!?" Aneksi declared, sounding far more angry than scared as she too effortless control of her fearless Utaku steed, drew her katana, and defensively prepared for what might come next as she took a quick look at the battlefield to assess the situation.

"... and now we're doing this apparently. Seriously, which Fortune did I anger to have to deal with this?" He just looked over the wagon towards the shambling dead while he grumbled, hands slipping free his Storm Kama.

Utaku Jinyu-Zhe looks a bit panicked! Despite this, he tries to get horse under control.

Chiyuuai seems to be equally distressed, and the rider and steed seem to be keying off each other's anxiety to the sudden appearance of undead to create this bizarre cascade effect of further anxiety.

Three Zombies shamble towards Aneksi while another shambles towards Husband.

The Mantis stood sharply as the undead popped up, sucking in a breath and casting her head around as they approached from all sides, freezing for just a moment as she set the reigns down carefully, before the sounds of the panicked Utaku and his horse shook her from her reverie. Just like that she popped to her feet, pulling one of the odd curved clubs from her obi, looking at the one directly behind the group, and one already approaching the struggling Unicorn. With a bushi already between her charge and danger, she dealt with the next closest one- standing to get a shot past the horse, taking her time to carefully pull the weapon back to position and line up her shot-

One zombie receives a hard thwack by Juneko's boomerang, while the rest march closer.

"Jinyu!" she called out in an attempt to snap her Husband out of his anxiety loop. Of course, that was immediately followed by Chishiyo's leap southwest, Aneksi completely ignoring the creature attacking her and going straight to cut down the one threatening her lover, sword swaying with her horse's movements in perfect battle harmony.

As Aneksi lays into the zombie, you will notice that the corpse's head nearly came off with the Battle Maiden's powerful blow. The undead creation looked staggered and slow(er) to move. Who knows what would happen if the monster's head came free at that moment.

Seeing the creature slow by Aneksi's blow, a niggling starts in his brain. Something... something... AH! "They're slow, go for the necks and behead them! They are harder to strike down any other way."

Asura swung his katana at the zombie dealing a decent wound to its neck.

He then spurred his horse to trot away.

Misaki muttered a prayer to Hachiman, asking for his favor in this battle. Flaring out his kama, he moves towards the zombie near him, the right blade flashing out towards the shambling corpse's neck.

2 Raises (1 Called Shot, 1 Damage) - 8+7+6= 21 - 10 = 11.

*slight rewind*
Shinjo Asura slices through the neck of a zombie, sending it collapsing to the ground while Misaki hooks the zombie endangering Jinyu-Zhe with his kama and cuts through the neck, sending it too back to the afterlife. Unfortunately, Misaki is hit straight in the face with the decaying head of the undead abomination and takes six damage!

Too panicked to focus on defense stance, so generic attack stance for now

Jinyu-Zhe would try to get Chiyuuai to move, pulling at the reigns of his steed. Even if he couldn't fight, Chiyuuai could. He was a Unicorn steed, he should be ready for any battle! He was panicking a moment ago, but seemed to calm down some. "Chiyuuai, let's go! Come on!"

He would try to spur the horse with his foot, and would lash the reigns to try to get him to attack, or move, or anything.

Horse stays there in shock

The world world begin to zoom in on his horse. Jinyu-Zhe's words would fall to deafness, quickly losing out to the sound of the background music that would begin to consume Chiyuuai's thoughts. The setting sun's light would pale to the encroaching darkness. Creatures, once of death but somehow given unlife, moan in unnatural raspy tones, the overwhelming scent of loose earth hitting the equine's nostrils, accented by a hint of decay. Other horses like him were charging about, their humans swinging bits of steel and their mouths moving, but none of it heard. The human on his back continued to shout nothingness in effortless abandon.

The natural order has been corrupted, and the very foundation of Chiyuuai's understanding has given way to the weight of the implications of what this all meant. Nigh-skeletal arms would swing aggressively as they approach, the very hands that ended them avatars of the greater hunger these things possessed, an insatiable hunger that no predator possessed, a hunger that was both alien and harrowing. Their sunken sockets, which once contained eyes, saw all the same. Just now, a head severed from a neck, but teeth continued to gnash, betraying death.

The world before was so vibrant, full of color, full of life, but now everything was black. Were these things corporeal, or were they but shadows, manifestations of some deep-seated fear that has become awakened in Chiyuuai's very soul? Was this his time to face the decisions of his life and stand judged for his actions to whatever incomprehensible entity that ruled over life and death with such carelessness? Was this to be his last moments on Earth?

The song crescendos into the climax as the world has finished zooming in on Chiyuuai's eye, a window to his soul, a soul that has shattered in abject horror that has broken this creature's fragile psyche.

Zombies shamble and shuffle themselves towards the party and one even tries to hit Aneksi! emphasis on tries though as it whiffs.

"The necks? Oka- hey! Don't run right at them!" She called as her charge reeled, not from her failure to protect him, much as she couldn't possibly have struck them all down fast enough, reasonably speaking- but because he ran right up to attack one. If they hadn't been suddenly swarmed by monstrosities offending nature and the heavenly order, she might have laughed at his being clonked by a disembodied head. Instead she whipped out her next boomerang, imagining the perfect throw, carefully imitating the motions she'd learned for the strange weapon all the way through, and hurled it at the one behind them, trying to allow herself and the other bushi to focus all in one direction.
