Name: J’hcre Age: 37 Turns Nameday: 3537:10:07 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Open and willing. /finger guns Weyr: Western Weyr Rider Rank: Wingrider Previous Rank/Craft: Mercenary Physical Description: A solidly built man with olive skin and chocolate-brown hair: It’s long enough that he often keeps it pulled back to stay out of his face. Said face has several scars from the many fights he’s been through in his life, and he wears a shaggy, somewhat maintained beard. He’s broad shouldered individual, but he’s now sporting quite the belly that he wishes he didn’t have.
Personality: J’hcre is a charming man always ready with a genuine (respectful!) compliment for the ladies, and the fellas too if he thinks they won’t get weird about it. His typically affable nature endears him to all sorts of people, and as long as no one is rocking the boat, he gets along with just about everyone. The problem usually comes around when someone gets his back up. If someone comes at him with an unpleasant attitude, J’hcre’s hackles will rise, and he won’t hesitate to dish it right back. It’s bad enough that he’s quick to respond to challenges, but his stubbornness means that he won’t back down--even when he really, really needs to. This has definitely gotten him in trouble with authority figures before, and though J’hcre struggles to rein himself in, he is by no means a master at doing so. Though he absolutely understands the need for the chain of authority, he believes that respect is something that should be earned; an argument that doesn’t fly well in Weyr life.
The man is quick on his feet and his judgement is quite sound. He often trusts his gut, and his intuition has served him quite well in life. If he gets a feeling about a person, be it good or bad he’s probably gonna stick with it unless he’s drastically proven wrong. On the same hand, J’hcre can be impulsive, often reacting without thinking. In order to survive when he was young, he trusted his instincts rather than his reasoning. Better to jump and save your own hide sooner rather than later! While that served him well when he was a child scrounging for scraps, it’s a less forgivable now that he’s well into his adult years.
Despite all his flaws, J’hcre is an extremely loyal person. Once his trust is gained, a person can count on having a friend for life. Though he’s not shy about voicing opposition to their decisions or reasoning, in the end, he will absolutely do his best to support them as much as his abilities allow. Friends don’t just let friends do stupid things, after all, and a friend isn’t just a person that blindly agrees with you, either! He’ll still have that person’s back through thick and thin, and he fully expects them to have his. After all, you can’t always know when someone--or Thread--will strike you when you least expect it.
Positive Trait List Warm, intuitive, loyal. Negative Trait List Impulsive, stubborn, combative.
History: Jahcre began life as an unwanted child at Rivercrest Hold, where he’d been little more than an unfortunate accident for his mother. As she was an older woman to begin with, the pregnancy spelled the end to her nightlife escapades at her current place of work. She was never much of a mother to the young child, though she saw him clothed and fed, and he spent most of his childhood running wild with other children on the streets. A boy without supervision was bound to get into trouble, and trouble is exactly what Jahcre excelled at. He quickly learned how to beg for marks and pickpocket the unwary, as well as how to defend himself from older, bigger children. This general life of delinquency continued into his late teens, when he one day set his sights on a target that was far above himself… but what was life without a little risk, huh?
Dragonriders were not an uncommon sight, and though Jahcre had never paid them much mind before, a man caught his eye one day… or, more accurately, the goods the man was carrying. Though said man had an enormous beast of a green in his company, and Jahcre spent hours subtly tailing the pair. Luck would have it that the two planned to spend the evening at the Hold, and once the green had gone to sleep and the man was safely inside of a building, the young hooligan made his move. Barely even breathing, he kept a careful eye on the green behemoth to make certain she was asleep before beginning to undo parcels and packages in hopes of finding something worth selling.
The next thing he knew, he found himself flat on his back, pinned by the foot of the dragon. Terrified as he was, Jahcre did the one thing he could think of to save his own skin: compliment, croon, and flatter. The dragon, red-eyed as she was, made no move to bite him in half (not that she could have even if she’d wanted to), and unbeknownst to the young man, she’d sensed potential in him. Jachre just assumed that his silver tongue was yet again helping him out of trouble. While Muerth was unable to lay a hand on him, her rider, Rey’brie, was not so restricted. The man had been summoned as soon as she’d pinned the thief, and he was not best pleased.
After scaring Jahcre within an inch of his life, Rey’brie gave the fool a choice: he could stay here and continue to waste away in Rivercrest… or he could come with Rey’brie, and do some good for once in his life. It wasn’t a difficult decision. Jahcre was whipped into shape, and brought to Western Weyr, where he became a Candidate. Nearly four Turns passed, and just when Jahcre was about to give up and make his own way in the world, an egg hatched for him, and the most perfect, green dragon claimed him as her own.
J’hcre and Paciseth remained at the Weyr long enough to learn how to fly and safely go Between before leaving with Rey’brie and two other dragonriders. With Rey’brie leading their motley crew, the four became a reputable pack of mercenaries, working together closely for nearly ten Turns.
When Thread returned, the four debated long and hard about what they were going to do. Rey’brie and Muerth ultimately decided to return to Western and fight. J’hcre and Paciseth loyally followed them back, though being chained down by the rules of a Weyr and not taking orders from only Rey’brie was quite the adjustment… Though struggling to keep his tongue in check, J’hcre continues to work hard--if only so he doesn’t disappoint the man who changed his life.
Other: Since J’hcre is experiencing Weyr-life for the first time, I fully expect his combative nature to get him into trouble. I 100% am okay with IC consequences, should he do something really out of line!
