The potion was turning cold again. That was just a minor setback! He could fix this! Matteo's eyes slid over to Zephyros' potion, which was sitting in front of the feathered boil, looking perfectly innocuous and not like lukewarm old-and-probably-dangerous tea. He half-considered asking how Zephyros did it before shoving the traitorous thought away. He was determined to figure this out on his own.

Matteo was hunched over his potion, chewing on his lip so hard the skin threatened to break. There, it was back to eighty; he was at least keeping the temperature within a mostly consistent range, even if it wasn't nearly at the right threshold it should be.

Suddenly, the temperature shot up, and Matteo let out an audible cry, equal parts relieved and excited. That was it! Now if he could just stay on that track and not screw it up again, he'd have it!

His relief came much too soon. Foamy bubbles spewed forth from the container, spilling over and plopping wetly on the table. When they calmed, the temperature remained stubbornly below one hundred, sitting obnoxiously at eighty-five.

His lip bled. Matteo had never hated a number so much in his life.

"Zephyros." He said slowly. "I... think I need some help."

Uru stood back from his pot, waiting for the authority figure to move onto the next subject; then he could call him for... assistance. It wasn't something he was keen on doing, but he will admit that he could learn from mistakes. Leaning back, the large hellhound, looked about the room and watched as other students suffered and others cheered as they were successful. More of the former than the latter. The smell of the air was intoxicating, and it wasn't the good type. He would be lucky to be able to smell anything after the class, but a good run should clear things up.

Merope slowly looked to the left. Then he looked to the right. Quietly he reached out and cranked that burner knob up. It was a good thing his foul-looking potion was blocking the sight of the open flame. If Merope knew it was there, he would very loudly begin freaking out.

Perfect! He was getting the hang of this. But... surely he could do better, right? Nevermind that he wasn't listening to the professor's instructions; Merope continued to cook his potion because he could. That and the fire was small and manageable and his RPer totally didn't misread the instructions the first time or anything. Nope.
