"Oh, please, Jamesy and I have all the morals in the world. I don't know a single person with more morals and family values than we do. Besides, of course, you, Remus." Sirius said, an obnoxious grin plastered on his face. "Anyways, enough talk about the rules. Let me eat in peace, without tainting it with the bitter taste of discipline." He winked at the group and continued to eat, stuffing himself quite thoroughly.

He felt Remus' foot rub against his leg once more, almost choking on his food with not a little surprise by the delicacy with which it was rubbed. He slid his foot a little further up Remus', absent-mindedly rubbing it along the length of his calf. After a while, Sirius realised what he was doing and quickly tucked his leg back under the table, blushing brightly and laughing a little too loudly at a joke someone was telling. He couldn't bring himself to look at Remus just now, and he hoped that his face wasn't as fuschia as it felt.

"Yes, you two have the best morals and family values around, honestly." Remus rolled his eyes, trying not to smile too broadly. He loved Sirius sarcasm -- it's what made him so likable and friendly and immediately drew Remus to him; it never got old. But what was he doing? He needed to stop thinking of Sirius. He could feel his face flush as soon as he even dared to look at the boy, and noticing his leg gently rub up his calf was doing more harm than good. Remus' breath hitched as he watched Sirius under his thick lashes, wondering if he knew that he was playing footsies with him and not the cute girl that was sitting on his left.

Starting to believe that it was the girl, Remus suddenly felt extremely embarrassed with himself and fell silent, hoping that Sirius wouldn't bring anything up.

Sirius looked at Remus, and was quite disappointed to see him looking so uncomfortable. He felt his stomach drop and cursed at himself under his breath; he should've known better than to assume Remus was purposely playing footsies with him, should've known that it was just an accident. He ducked his head down, his silky black hair swinging from behind his ears to partially cover his face. He didn't dare bring it up; he knew that Remus would be embarassed and cross with him if he did. He couldn't bear the thought of Remus being cold and distant towards him. He went back to eating, chewing his food sulkily.

Rita looked anxiously at her classmates, but nobody seemed in any hurry to leave the feast. Looking down at her plate , she realized that it had been empty probably for the last few minutes. A tinge of red touched her cheeks, and she inwardly scolded herself for being so absent minded. Grabbing a cup of pumpkin juice, she excused herself from the table and headed for the doors. Rita stopped for a moment to ask a prefect what the new password would be, carefully placing a small recording device of sorts under the table as to not miss anything in her departure. She then headed for the highest stairwell in the castle that still held a view of the grand halls doors. She stood at the railing and waited, eager for the first group of student to exit the feast.

Seeing Sirius' reaction out of the corner of his eye, Remus wondered if what had happened was really meant to be at him, and not the girl seated next to him. That didn't make sense to Remus; Sirius was as straight as a board and wouldn't play footsies with another boy, especially not with Remus. Or maybe it was a joke? Remus hoped not, because whether or not Sirius knew it was him, it felt good and Remus wished secretly that Sirius' foot was still rubbing gently against his calf.

He'd just have to bring it up later while they were alone in their dorm. Sirius seemed to be moody and Remus hated when he got that way; he didn't to feel an uncomfortable distance between them. Finishing up his food, Remus' stomach felt full, but he most certainly would not pass up on some cakes and puddings.

Lily munched on her food thoughtfully, lost in her world of thoughts and things.

She was so oblivious to it all, that James could be dancing naked in front of her, and she wouldn't even notice.

Narcissa was waiting for Chattel to finish cutting the lettuce in her salad into smaller pieces. She hated waiting. The girl was taking forever. Nearly 10 seconds of her precious time had already been wasted on waiting for her to finish. 'Perhaps I should go easy on her.' Narcissa decided. And so she bit back the snide remark she was about to make. 'She is a first year and we all know that they are slower than normal, much like Hufflepuffs. But this is just getting... Oooohhh, is she done?' And since she had finished, Narcissa smiled at the girl, because thanking her was completely unnecessary, not to mention the girl didn't deserve thanks, and she needed some type of encouragement. Narcissa also decided that, since this was the girls first day doing things for her, she would not hex the girl. Or the glass that she was holding.

Well, she certainly didn't want any of Chattel's pumpkin juice to accidently end up on herself. That would be dreadful. So, that must have been the main reason she hadn't hexed the girls' glass. Not yet at least. Maybe a Densaugeo charm would do the trick.

While Narcissa was eating and thinking about different charms she could use, she glanced down the table. She was looking for Lucius, but she saw Severus first. And, as usual he was by himself. He was good company, so she didn't know why he was all alone. She decided that if she didn't find someone soon, she might just have him join her. Besides he was excellent in potions, so maybe he could help her make something to get back at Chattel for taking so long.

Ventici was full. He wanted dessert, he really did, but he didn't know how he would possibly be able to fit more food in his stomach. So, he just sat there for a few minutes, relaxing. 'Maybe if I sit here long enough I'll have more room,' he thought. Then he remembered that he did want to make it to the library before anyone else could. And he still had to check on Ara, make sure that she was comfortable and whatnot.

As he was thinking about walking, or rolling in this case, to the library, he saw Rita leave. He didn't know if that was a good sign or not. He knew she was going to be putting an article out soon, but leave her post at the table where most of the gossip takes place? The only way she would willing leave one place that was swimming with gossip was if she was positive that she was getting a jucier piece wherever she was headed. Or Nargles had infested her brain. And neither of those made sense since everyone appeared to be present in the Great Hall and he was pretty sure that she hadn't been near any Nargles.

Venatici was confused, and he knew that he should really go to the library and research.

But first, pie.

Sybill finished her dinner and started on the desert. 'Mmmm, apple pie. I KNEW they'd have good deserts today.' Of course, it was the first day back, and the feast was always spectacular, but Sybill didn't let that get in her way.

"Yes, Sirius," James said sarcastically. "Just pet me when you need me. You know I'll respond oh so well." With that said, James focused on his food. But after a few minutes, he noticed something; both Sirius and Remus had gotten very quiet. For Remus, that wasn't entirely unusual, but Sirius? Quiet? Never! Suddenly, Sirius laughed animatedly at a joke someone had said. In James's opinion, the joke wasn't all that funny as Sirius was making it out to be. Then, Sirius returned to eating his food, seeming to be almost sulky.

"All right, Sirius," James said loudly, clapping his hand on his best mate's shoulder. "What's gotten you so down? The only time you're this quiet is when we're setting up a prank."

Peter noticed in his flurry of eating that it has quietened down, he'd felt movement under the table but had chosen to ignore it, he wouldnt understand it even if he achknowledged it. He noticed Remus looking down trodden and them making a fuss of him, dont get him wrong, Peter liked Remus very much he was very good to him but he couldn't half be a misery guts sometimes.

"You've only been here five minutes and your already looking miserable Remus, and we havent even got our timetables yet" he said swallowing obnoxiously.

Hestia snapped out of her trance once the Sorting Hat's song had finished. She blinked and looked around, realizing she had missed everything that had happened whilst in her state of...spaceyness? "Hell, I am losing my mind," she mumbled to herself before taking a soft sip of juice and looking over the food. She shoveled a few spoonfuls of mashed potatoes onto her plate and began to dine.

Letting out a yawn after taking a few bites, she glanced around the Great Hall and noticed the Grey Lady hovering around the Ravenclaw table. "Good evening. How did you fair during the summer?" she asked the ghost.

The Grey Lady merely wrinkled her nose and complained how empty the corridors were, how Nick wouldn't shut up about the headless hunt, and how she did not get any proper reading done in the library without someone there to turn the pages for her. Hestia listened, but she was too distracted by the dust particles floating above her head. "Oh. Hey, Lovegood, do youmind passing the salt, please?" she asked, turning to Venatici.

Sirius started a bit at James' hand on his shoulder. He looked over at James and, with the ghost of a blush, came up with an excuse quickly. "Uh - Oh, yes, I was just thinking about what we should do for our first prank of the year. It has to be a good one, you know. Start the year off with a bang. But, you know, I've been thinking..." he lowered his voice, looking around to make sure no one was listening to them. "Maybe, instead of the annual prank, we should host a party in the common room? Just think of it! It would be a great way to mingle with everyone." He looked around at them all, clearly thinking that he had come up with a superior plan, and his eyes lingered on Remus'. He thought to himself, with a nervous jiggle in his stomach, that a party would be just the thing to get Remus to himself and have a bit of a chat. "We could, of course, host it somewhere else instead and invite all houses to the party."

"There's always that one room," Remus whispered to his three friends as he glanced over his shoulders to make sure that no one was listening in. Sirius, James, and Peter planning such things was different than Remus getting involved since he was a prefect, but that would cause him to stop having a good time with a new prank, even though it was mostly designed by Sirius and James. "That one we stumbled across a few times last year.. the one on the seventh floor opposite the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy. Of course, I am not sure if we can get all of them into that one room, and teachers would be bound to notice, and everyone would then know about it." Remus dropped his voice, supposing that perhaps that wasn't the best idea. That room would come in handy if ever they needed a place to go where no one would know their whereabouts.

"There's always that one room..."

Remus hadn't even finished his thought before Sirius knew exactly which room he was talking about. Truth be told, he'd been thinking the exact same thing. If only they could sneak everyone into that room, they could have an amazing start-of-term party that everyone would be talking about for months. He got that old familiar glint in his eye. He had quite made up his mind that that room would be the place the party would be held. Rubbing his hands together, he looked excitedly at Remus, James and Peter. "Exactly! We could even sneak some food in from the kitchens! Just think about it, mates! It would be the talk of the school for at least a month! And," Sirius dropped his voice even lower, nudging James, "it would be a chance for you to get a little alone time with Lily." Laughing at how uncomfortable he knew that thought would make James, Sirius rested his chin on his hand, completely immersed in planning the event. "I'm sure I could even get some firewhisky..." he trailed off, his eyes looking misty and far-away. Yes, this would be their start-of-term festivity. It would be perfect.
