Gee Jacob and I was starting to think you were trying to make me less concerned and not wonder why you haven't been caught more than you have.
If she was air inside his suit she might escape, so she chose a little vampire bat because she could bite him without accidentally poisoning him if she wanted.

"A dark essence I did sense, but it vanished quickly. False angels again perhaps? The trail disappears into the air in directions unknown... Is there anything else, or should I return to the patrols?"

Jacob mutely shook his head at Veni's comment. Things are usually a fair amount calmer than this.
Sephiroth, press your hand to Jacob's neck, where Rosemary is. I think I can use some of the holy energy that comes through to you for something.
When he did as Fal'Jenul asked, he felt some energy coursing through his folded wings, that went into both Rosemary and Jacob, feeding them and rejuvenating them a touch... Jacob was given an extra boost in case he had to feed Rosemary soon. Sephiroth found that this had little to no drain on his person.
Afterwards, they continued on through the cold wastelands, the air stale through the breathing apparatus parts of their suits. The sky was beginning to set into night, the only difference being that the little light in the realm that existed was fading. The jagged structures of the main city of Ni'Jitogrimiz was gradually growing larger, feelings of dread and anxiety increasing as they grew near. Prayers silently being said to keep the dark emotions at bay, least they overran their minds...

The True Blessing was waved away by the mage. The humanoid said, "everyone saw it. They're in an uproar back at home, but I have already told them (meaning someone else did) what had happened, that they vanished, and that there are already some of us investigating this, to be on alert there, and that I will tell them more as soon as we discover more."
"Perhaps they're still headed towards the city from a different location," stated the other. He gestured subtly, removing a small, squirming creature from a pocket dimension with a slight glow of rift energy. He then quickly stabbed his front sharp fanged tusks into the little thing, causing it to splurt blood. Taking a claw, he dipped it in it's blood, tracing little symbols in the ground swiftly and murmuring something underneath his breath. The blood quickly turned into a strange, red glowing powder that found it's way to several demon corpses, bringing forth their spirit into a visible and audible state with the faint distant sound of tortured screams.
"Such a musical sound..."
The other only agreed because it was faint. Tortured screams normally was too loud for their taste... they preferred whimpering, sobbing, moaning, and the like.
The hunter asked, "what happened here?"
"We sensed strangers in the clouds and we threw the plague goblins at them, but one came back down very fast, very hard, covered in flames."
"Did you see who it was?"
"No, their bodies were covered head to foot. There were three or four of them all humaniod in shape. One grabbed the others and they vanished. They headed that way as they disappeared."

Rosemary enjoyed a little snack and a little nap against Jacob's warm and comfortable flesh. However she didn't take a long one before she was 'active' again and vanished.

A couple hours later, they were spotted by one of the hunters who immediately informed a superior. The hunter mage and his 'companion' appeared and teleported to be a distance ahead of the group as they approached.
The hunter mage started to draw glowing curvy symbols in the air and encased them in orbs which his minions (the other hunters) took and moved to form a large circle, about the radius of 2 football fields around him with he in the middle. The balls expanded to touch the nearest ball to form the circle as the mage sent energy out to them. Once done with his chanting, the light show vanished, and they left to another area.

Jacob patted Rosemary gently and affectionately before she vanished from her resting place. It was noticable that there was an emotion or pressence in all of them that was keeping a fair amount of the realm's negative effects on their mind and thoughts at bay, a result of the prayers from the angels.
Whatever the trap was that the niearcim hunter mage had set, the group fell right into it, setting it off without any idea in the slightest until it was too late.

I see two, but didn't others think there were three or four... where are the others? Thought possibly most there.
The hunter mage instructed his subordinates on what to do. Keep a watch for another possibly hidden member. Cloud their minds enough to make them easy to catch... if that fails... use force to disable them.

Edit: BlackMN doesn't like the results... she ups it by 1 through her captain planet powers. So the number is 4... and the number in wait outside the bubble is 3 razz

To those that they could sense, the black hunters started working on their minds... The illusions immediately kicked in, the ground appearing to puncture open with a strange, orange colored gas. Some demon or animal screeched in pain as it dug itself out of the ground to try to escape the gas, only to fall over and stop moving completely.
The gas stunk of rotten corpses, combined with week old wastes and spoiled foodstuffs, the stench managing to overpower them even through their suits' filters.
(Milaku) "What... what is this? So foul..."
(Jacob) "The stench is acidic to me... I... don't think I can stay alert... I've never seen thi..."
Suddenly, Jacob fell out of the air, feeling too overpowered by whatever the stench was... the vampires could sense that he had just about lost consciousness. (Or the demons had tricked him so convincingly that he felt like he wanted to, so his mind made his body feel like it had to.)
Milaku meanwhile frowned... she'd never seen/smelled such a gas that had this particular... scent... combined with this coloration in Ni'jitogrimiz before. Could it be something knew, what was it doing to them?! It made her feel like passing out and...
...her mind itched, something wasn't right about this. There was no attack at this inopportune moment. Was it a trick!?

Hunters!?
As soon as that word was said, he struggled to get up back into the air. The hunters, sensing another voice in Jacob's mind realized there was more in the area than they had initially thought and started probing out for the minds of others, meanwhile a cloaked one jumped on the still-waking Jacob's back and pierced him in the back of his leg and arms with his tail and claws. It did significantly less damage thanks to the suit, but then the hunter tasted the yir-metal nanites that made up the armor and quickly bit down around Jacob's neck... the collar was damaged by the demon's large teeth, needing time now to self-repair as the damage absorbing properties of the reactive armor lessened, and the hunter's teeth and claws were able to penetrate into his flesh.
Milaku meanwhile struggled to keep sane. Two of the hunters were flooding her minds with scenes and memories of how she had tortured her once-mentor weng anjul captive, before it opened her eyes to the Niearcim's true horrors. She kept muttering "no", while trying to fight back against the illusions before her.

Sephiroth inwardly groaned... from what he heard from the others Hunter demons didn't sound very pleasant. And looking at Milaku, made them seem worse... plus he knew they went berserk once one was killed and became all the much more difficult to dispose of from Rosemary's story.
No doubt they sensed her mind in Jacob's head so they were looking all the more for a hidden member... so since she had the nicer guns and a potential ace in the hole, he said. Try to stay hidden in case there is a mage around, so you can get them by surprise with that magic killing gun of yours.
Maybe their previous possession would help him resist a hunter's influence some... he hoped. And hopefully they'd think that he was the one who warned of hunters. He positioned himself right next to Jacob and brought his blade down on the invisible things stabbing him in the backside as he reappeared and put up his own barrier around the two of them against the other invisible threats.

Veni had blocked his mind connection off from Jacob to make it more difficult for the hunters to detect him. It was difficult for one or two to flood his mind to begin with.

...I got the idiots of our species... Thought the hunter mage often referred to as Alpha. He had even told them that there were likely unseen members down there and when they realized there was more than two they were surprised. He knew there was at least 3, maybe 4 total. He told them this...
We have grown cocky and take for granted that usually we are the unseen attackers. Alpha thought to himself. He really did hope they'd get a taste of their own med... oh look one just appeared and sliced off the arms and tail of the attacking one as it materialized.
