Stunned from the fall and coated in snow, it was little wonder that the zomboil ended up knocking his basket over by the time he got up. He eyed the thing, once so full of candies and potential and hope and all things good and now only with scraps, and gave a harsh sigh.

Wipe the snow off his glasses. Shake the gingerbread crumbs form his clothes. Check the Red plush for damage (nope, it was pretty stubborn as well and looked alright).

Try again.

If there was one thing Mort knew, it was that he was used to taking big falls. The only way to go was up at this point.

Well, first a stumble to accidentally reduce his loot again. A soft curse.

Then go back to the path leading upwards.

Wincing, the zomboil picked a different tree he saw some particularly nice growths of candy on and slowly picked his way up the gingery trunk, swiping the large clamp and its little addition with it.

Yet after a few more kicks, her foot was starting to get sore. After all, these shoes were made to be looked at, not for JOY tree kicking. For a long moment the witch stood there, staring up at all the candies with a frown. What to do, what to do...
"Ugh, I bet I could find a foothold if there wasn't all this snow..." She mused out loud, hands on her hips. And then, of course! How silly of her! Quick as she could she shoved a pair of gloves onto her hands, then bent down and make a quick snowball. All it took was a well placed lob and a number of candies showered down. Most excellent!
Cackling all the while, Belladonna even lamely tossed one in Mort's general direction with an additional shout that she was collecting candies faster than he and would undoubtedly win.
Because competition, why not?

He knew he could just smash these things and get a whole payload (and possibly the rest of the tree) on top of him. That was the easy route and probably quicker route at this point. But zombies weren't exactly known to be swift beyond special cases and brain lusting. They took things slow. Methodically. In numbers preferably, but he knew by now that it was best to be able to do his own thing too.

Another large clump, another harvest. Mort snatched a second, smaller bunch of candies to toss into the basket.

Something wet hit his leg and Mort turned his head to see Bells was the culprit. "What, want me to fall again?" he called out with a small frown, only then noticing her basket. Her almost filled basket.

Ohhhh. A race, was it? His frown turned into a smirk as he recognized her challenge. Fine. Let's see if she could harvest faster than he could climb!

Just to prove a point, he scampered up a little higher and snatched a few more candies off a branch. He actually would have grabbed more, but said branch broken when he fumbled for the clutch and its bounty ended up nothing more than broken pieces in the snow.

Still, now it was a close race~ "Know is admiring me from down there, but if want to win should get to it!"

A loud laugh was Mort's initial reply, not because the witch wanted him to fall again, but mostly because throwing snowballs was just really fun, ok?! It was even better to watch his frown turn into a sneaky grin at her pronouncement of a competition. For a bit longer the witch only pressed her hands to her mouth and giggled, an action that helped warm them a little, since having to pack all that snow into clumps to throw still had cold leaking in through her gloves.
"Ooohh, I don't know, the view is great from down here!" Belladonna called up with a wink, before she skipped back to her own tree and began to pelt it with more snowballs.
The first few hits were quite excellent, the next few didn't net her anything but a big glob of snow that fell into her basket and required being scooped out, but the last few were truly brilliant. They netted the witch a few additional candies so that she let out a loud whoop at her basket being full. Also, that meant lots of gloating too.
"I beat you, I beat you, I win-win-wiiiiin!" The witch sing-songed as she sashayed to Mort's tree and enacted a little dance underneath it, just for him. It wasn't really rubbing in... Not... Really..........
OK. It was rubbing it in, but from a place of love!

Chuckling, Xiu simply shook her head. She wasn't sure what kind of relationship Terra and Roch had...but it certainly seemed like an amusing one, if their interactions were of any indication. "Go on," She encouraged the reaper ghoul, giving her a little headpat, "But don't be too hard on him, okay?"

She looked up when she heard Red call out for them to return. Picking up her filled basket, she obediently trotted over to the gym teacher, her tail swishing behind her as she set it down in front of the professor.

Mort just grinned all the more at her dancing and would have effected a defeated posture if he hadn't been busy clinging to the gingerbread tree's trunk. "Is about time~" he answered teasingly as he grabbed the last bit of candy needed to fill his basket and slowly crawled back down. "Won Valentines race, so now we're even."

Plopping down next to Belladonna, he wielded a gingerbread twig like a sword and poked her in the side. "C'mon, teach is waiting," he said, extending his arm so that they went together to fill in with the forming line. The new arrival had curiously flitted in and out as a swan, which had Mort blinking. "Er, P-Professor? Who was that?" he asked as they arrived.

He figured it had worked fairly well the first time, so the zomboil gave it another go, though this time moving himself to a new tree since he was a little worried that he if hit one too many times it might split or crack and fall down. He moved towards one that looked fairly sturdy, and gave it a good jolting push, rewarded when several large pieces of candy fell, though one hit his basket and tipped it on to it's side so that he lost a few pieces that had been not so securely placed with in.

With a small head shake, he bent to the task of retrieving the candies that hadn't gotten buried beneath the snow. A couple of pieces were actually quite exceptionally large, though one of them crumbled around the edges in his hand and became smaller. It was of no consequence, however, considering that his basket was filled with just a little extra to spare.

When Sophie came over to show off her basket, he just offered her a wide grin and held up his own in front of her face. "Ya. Easy."

Too bad the good zombie luck only seemed to run in the Van Rotte family. He could see that Mort had struggled a little with getting all of his candies, and Alexander's smile soon faded. The other zomboil had seemed off when he'd gotten to the gym, and he hoped that whatever was bothering him still wasn't effecting him now. Giving Sophie a playful nudge with his elbow, he began shuffling over to where Mort and Belladonna now stood, also offering his own filled basket to the professor after watching the avian like woman fly away.

Watching the conversation between the two was interesting, but Marosa kept to himself. He'd always been quiet when watching others, and it seemed that Red hadn't noticed him watching.

He smiled, setting the baskets gently down beside Red. glancing up at where the avian woman flew off to.

Terra grabbed her basket, sludged through the snow, and poked Roch until he brought his own two baskets forward to the professor. Then she hugged herself, waiting patiently for them to be taken back to school.

The boil finally sat up, placing his basket beside him and sifting through it to make sure none of his candies were broken. He did notice when Levi started speaking to the tree, but he tried to ignore it, or at least seem less curious about it than he actually was. Could her kind communicate with plants? Was it talking back? West peeked at her again. Nah.

He looked over again as she took a seat. "Guess so," he agreed. A cold tail was a a small price to pay for getting out and doing something that might rid a friend of... whatever was wrong with him. Halloween might never die, but it sure got knocked around and infected with stuff a lot.

"We could get up?" he said, smirking, before doing just that. He didn't have a chance to suggest any number of toasty things she might sit on after all this was done before the area was invaded by a strangely lovely bird, a bird who quickly turned into a woman.

West couldn't hear much of anything she and Red said to each other, but the bird held most of his attention until she transformed again and flapped off out of sight.

"That was... int'restin'," he muttered. West took a deep breath, exhaling a surprisingly cheery sigh. "Whatever. I'm gonna bring this one up." He bent over, lifting his basket carefully.

In going back up into the trees to get more candy, Julian managed to drop almost every piece of candy from his basket. Well, that was a serious loss, but at least he had one so far. He was still determined, though, and started flapping around a tree trying to get more candy before they all had to leave.
