About
Name: Achlys Hatetalon Meaning: Goddess of Poisons | Sirname. Breed: Mutant hippogryph (harpy) Quote: The dose makes the poison. Currently: Whatever she damn well wants. But specifically mixing poisons and breeding snakes..
Herd: Hatetalons
Familiar: Nope.
Personality: In the wild, bright colours are a warning. In the Flock, it's no different - especially when it comes to Achlys. Resident Witchdoctor - the mare is a force to be reckoned with and so is her wraith. Specialising in poisons - and their cures, it is unwise to get on her bad side. She has been known to give those that annoy her or disrespect her a little dose of her own medicine - typically a terrible stomach virus that will pass on its own but isn't pleasant. This is all done methodically - she isn't sloppy and it never causes permanent harm; she keeps an eye on her victims and will cure them earlier if she believes they've learned their lesson. While she's vengeful when fronted, it's typically hard to get on her bad side. Sticks and stones may break her bones but words will only make her laugh at how pathetic you are.. or something like that. If a sister wants to be snippy, she'll be snippy right back and she can dish it out with the best - or worst, in this case - of them. Interrupt her work, question her abilities or tresspass in her garden and you may suffer a fate worse than a stomach virus.
Specialising in venom milked from snakes she's bred herself, Achlys has taken a habit to tipping her feathers, claws and armor. Being struck by her - or striking her - may prove more deadly than you think. In her time milking and handling snakes, she's developed a tolerance - and in a few cases immunity - to most snake venom. She always has anti-venom handy, just in case. While she primarily started breeding the snakes for their venom - she began to see they had other potential. The first snake she ever milked - Ophine - eventually became a pet to her and she trained her to strike on command. For the right price, she trains the snakes with her sisters so they may be used for combat or protection. They come at a costly price and she is very select about who receives one - Ophine has input as well.
Though venoms are her forte, she also has a knack for herb-lore - something that's become some what of a requirement when dealing with poisons and the such. She has a garden she cultivates herself filled with most herbs required for basic healing. A smaller garden, kept in a secret location, holds poisonous plants - none are allowed near this garden. Recently, she has begun to delve into mithridatism. That is, developing an immunity to poisons. She doses herself with small, non-lethal amounts of poisons known to her - that she also has antidotes for. Her goal is to have it so that she may create poisonous salves to wear on her skin that make her deadly to touch.
Any poisons, antidotes and such are tested before use on sisters. Sometimes she may test on herself if the results won't render fatal. Mostly, however, she tests on animals. This aspect of her skills brings her in business with Aemliana quite often - as the mare takes record of animals in the area and the last thing Achlys wants is to go hungry. Typically, she tries to keep the animals alive for as long as possible and keeps them healthy to ensure results aren't compromised. If they die it's typically because an antidote hasn't work or she's testing a new poison she's discovered and needs to document everything - from start to end.
Even though she is primarily a Witchdoctor, the mare started as a Seer before branching out. She uses dice made of bone - old enough to have passed few generations and to have forgotten what the bones originally came from. The bones are carved with runes - which, when combined and interpreted by someone trained can reveal fortunes of those asking questions or secrets of the future. It takes years to master dice reading and even then the answers can be vague or riddles. Achlys is happy to divine for most people but she will not divine on children or future children. Divination is never one hundred percent and she does not wish to deal with a mare that was promised mares who then produced stallions. She does, however, divine such things for herself - when it is time for her to produce children, what the stallion will look like, etc'. She will also, if the mother allows or requests it, cast the future of a filly. This is typically done a few days after the child has emerged from its basket and simply gives basic information in regards to the childs' future - their strengths, their role, etc'. Achlys may keep some points to herself if she deems their knowledge will result in chaos.
While her duties are to keeping the flock healthy and alive, Achlys is not above exchanging her services for things she needs.Typically, she'll trade venoms for mares to tip weapons and claws with - along with anti-venoms for those that are clumsy. Her rule for venom trading is that the venom is not to infect another sister. Anyone caught doing so is struck with the venom themselves and must endure the pain until almost death at which point they are given the anti-venom and restores them to health. A mare that insults Achlys in such a way will never receive wares from the Witchdoctor and any urgent help would come with reluctance and only out of respect to the Queen. If a sister has nothing of value to trade, Achlys will trade labour - weeding, tidying or collecting herbs.
Despite her harsh nature and reclusive ways, Achlys' loyalty lies strong and she would do everything in her power to save someone. All mares are given a 'gift' from Achlys; a goodie bag, if you will. A blinding powder, so that should they find themselves unable to escape they may blind their attacker/pursuer in order to escape. A salve to use on basic wounds - this is more a gift to Achlys so she doesn't have a mare coming to her door each time they get cut. The last, possibly the most important thought it is least used, is a mixture of poisons should a mare ever find herself captured with no sign of escape - or is to be tortured for information. These bags are given to the fillies after they have emerged from the baskets when Achlys checks their health & rolls their fortune. The bags are not replaced - so as to ensure they aren't used without thought and dire need. This way, the mares do not rely on them and let their guard down.

Plots
Current Plots
Snakes The training of her snakes will be an important thing to her. If a mare wishes to own one she will first have to be approved by Achlys & Ophine. Upon approval, the mare will train with them & her snake (which is chosen via a ceremony. The mare sticks her hand inside a basket with snakes and the one that bites first is the snake she will train with). I would like to have a few sisters interested in training a snake of their own. o u o Apothecary enom, potions. You got an itch that needs curing, Achlys has what you need. For a price, of course. Fortune Perhaps you're curious about the hunt or simply are struggling with a decision. Allow Achlys' and her dice to shed some insight. Revenge A few mares to feel Achlys' wraith. What they do is up to you! A braver mare may even use venom on another mare and feel her wraith that way. >D Sisters RPs with her sisters - blood and flock related. Friends, enemies, rivals and patients. c: I would really like for her to have a close friend/confidant but I'm not certain as to what kind of person it would have to be. Omenchlys has cast the dice on a filly and it has told of warning - that this child will bring chaos and blood to the flock. Achlys will struggle with this information before finally revealing it - however the omen will still hold true (perhaps because of Achlys' revealing of it).
Future Plots Apprentice Would love for a future mare to have the desire to apprentice under Achlys. The older mare will be very reluctant at first and will set tasks she thinks will be impossible for the mare to complete - but the mare will surprise her and so Achlys will accept her. it won't be easy. she will be ruthless and mistakes won't be forgiven or forgotten - by either parties. (would love for this to start off as foal and into adult for the apprentice~ a prodigy, even!) Competition The dice have been rolled and have determined that Achlys is to produce children. However, a sister seems to have eyes on her fated stallion. How will she react/how will the sister react? Will she share or put up a fight? (I think it would be /awesome/ if they shared the stallion and the sisters' breeding results in stallions while Achlys' results in mares and they become rivals/enemies because of it o A o)
