Desert Wind Chapter #1: Playing Samurai and Indians

"Attaboy~" she praised, nodding as their work started to show some real progress. Just one left, which she gladly nocked another arrow and sent it soaring right for its neck.

....and as the zombie falls, combat is over. Among other things that happen, Jinyu-zhe would receive a message from the head shugenja of the caravan. To whit, the group is either to stay where they are, or to return if possible. It's time to cycle out patrols.

Also, take ten experience each. You may use it as soon as your commander lets you get an extended rest.

"Ssooooo...." Jinyu-Zhe would say lowly, with a bit of awkwardness as his pulse eased.

Suddenly, he turned his head to the side, as if listening to something.

"Oh. It seems we're being recalled for a shift change. They're going to cycle in a new patrol. They either want us to remain until they catch up, or, ideally, return to the main caravan."

"Oh thank the Fortunes. A chance to rest and maybe get someone to help with my nose!" He holds it carefully, grumbling.

Flicking his blade heavily to remove any zombie residue before sheathing his blade. Trotting back to the rest Asura would raise an eyebrow at the mantis's remark.

Hearing Jinyu's relay of orders Asura would turn to the commander, "Orders?"

(Water spell slots reduced from 3 to 1)

"I... can help with that. For both of you. I think..." Jinyu-Zhe would say to the Mantis. He'd reach for the scroll in his satchel for the spell Path to Inner Peace, though he'd find his hands were shaking less now. Still, his confidence wasn't what it was a few minutes prior.

Casting the spell and calling to the water kami for aid, the wounds upon each Mantis would begin to knit.

Aneksi let out a huff of relief as the last one fell, patted her husband on the back and went to retrieve her arrows, pausing partway to look back and consider the message. Shugenja sure were convenient.

"Aye, I'd intended just that after today. We're still a few days ahead of the caravan so we'll spend an hour or so seeing if there's anything around here we can use as kindling to burn these abominations, then head back a ways before we set up camp. I don't want to risk them rising back up again, and we don't exactly have jade on hand. Assuming this is taint and not some gaijin magic, which considering where we are... who knows how these things work. Best we just destroy them." she considered aloud, nodding at her conclusion and scouting around to do precisely what she'd suggested.

Putting the scroll away, Jinyu-Zhe would hope that the Mantis would be satisfied with the subpar job he did of invoking the benevolence of the water kami to aid their restoration. If they had never been magically healed before, they might not know the difference?

Giving a polite nod, he would pull the reins to get Chiyuuai to walk in the direction Aneksi and Chishiyo had gone off to. "W-wait, my love! I... you probably shouldn't be heading off alone. J-just in case. Eheheheh..." Unless ordered otherwise, he would assist in the gathering of kindling.

"I'll make sure everything is alright with the wagons and we're good to head back then." He'd move over to them, face still sore, but doing better due to the healing of the kami. Stopping beside the wagon, he'd start looking it over for any obvious signs of damage first before going over the supplies inside, making sure nothing had been damaged in the fight.

You destroy the corpses and head back to the ruins.

You see that the wagon is still in good condition.

If there is nothing else, can it be assumed you are moving to rejoin the main body of the caravan?

The second Mantis frowned, unsure what was going on that they were detached and ahead but already being recalled, almost no sooner than she'd arrived, but it wasn't worth too much fussing. Misaki seemed to have that covered in any case, though at least the bloodied nose seemed to have helped him properly wake up?

She paused in uncertainty at the sensation of the spirits healing her injuries, feeling her body mend and better itself quiet quickly along side the shugenja's prayer, and gave a bow and a short thanks for him- and the spirits, if they could even hear her, before moving to help check the wagons with Misaki and prepare everything to return. With nothing else to do before leaving, she'd reclaim her boomerang's and helped collect wood to burn the bodies- keeping an eye out to any decent pieces that might make an additional weapon for herself, until they were ready to set the flame and move on.

Nothing struck Jinyu-Zhe as worth investigating that couldn't be later done by others. Reuniting with the main caravan seemed to be the best idea, and unless refuted by Aneksi, he'd assume that was the plan.

And so you all set off back to rejoin the caravan. You may make perception rolls as you return. It will take roughly two days to do so, as the wagon is kind of dilapidated and controlled by inexperienced drivers.

If you choose to make perception/lore/ whatever rolls, I'll handle them in a separate post.

Back at the caravan

You'd see various Unicorn looking your way at your batteredish crew and make silent comments to themselves. One would go get the rotund Ide Goro and bring him to you. He'd eye the group up and down a bit before speaking.

"WHere are your drovesmen? What happened out there?

Upon their journey back, Jinyu-Zhe would keep his own eyes peeled for potential loose earth / shallow graves. The undead that attacked them came right out of the ground, and he'd be wary of such an accidental ambush happening again.

If he did find any such instances that looked suspicious, if given permission, he'd speak with the local earth kami to see if any humans were buried there, possibly under less-than-usual circumstances.

Aneksi was more than happy to give Jinyu permission for that, praising the idea and wishing she'd thought of it herself earlier.The caravanfolk and Ide Goro's reaction when they finally met up left her no small bit confused, but she took it in stride at first.

"The area ahead can be considered extremely hostile. Our heimin were killed in the night by a pair of bandits, and then we discovered a curse upon the land that appears to be raising the dead. All bodies we have encountered so far we have burned. I'd intended to scout around more thoroughly before returning for more suppli-... wait... you don't already know? If you didn't receive our message, why did you call us back? It's only been a few days."
