Dumbledore watched the students, when the majority of them seemed finnished, he quickly stood up at the front of the dias, quickly reading off the rules. As usual, there was nothing exciting about this. He directed the Prefects to bring the new students to the House common rooms and welcomed them all to a new year at Hogwarts.

Venatici had been staring at the half-eaten piece of pie on the plate in front of him, willing himself to have more room in his stomach, when he heard his name.

"...,Lovegood, do you mind passing the salt, please?"

Hopefully she hadn't said anything else before his last name because he hadn't been paying attention until it was said.

"Ah, yes salt." He reached in front of his plate, grabbed the salt, and handed it to her. "Here you go."

Shortly after this was done, he noticed Dumbledor rising from his seat. Venatici turned his attention to him, noting any new rules that might have been made.

"Yeah, you can sneak over to The Three Broomsticks and use your charm to get us all some firewhisky, Sirius, I'm sure." Remus said in a sheepish way, smirking slightly as the places around him vanished before he was completely finished with his pie. His eyes were glossed and staring absentmindedly at Sirius' neck and upper chest while Dumbledore went over the rules. It was the same old, same old, and maybe Remus should pay attention since he was Prefect, but even he did not have that kind of mastery.

"See you guys in the Common Room," Remus told James, Sirius, and Peter as he stood up and stepped out from the Gryffindor table to meet the other Gryffindor Prefects and Heads stationed at the front of the table. He'd have to give a quick tour of the school and Common Room for the first years before he was able to have a truly relaxing night.

James grinned. A party. "Wow, Sirius... You've been thinking over the summer, haven't you? Matured a bit to move on from pranks?" James's brow furrowed slightly; Sirius was blushing. He never blushed. Sirius made others blush, but never himself. "Yeah... That one room... Great idea, Remus," he said, looking over at Remus. "And the firewhisky! Has someone forgotten he's a Prefect?" James teased Remus lightly. "Oh, well. See ya later, Moony." He waved lightly as Remus took his place amongst the other Gryffindor Prefects and Heads. Something odd was going on...

Bellatrix waited till Dumbledore finnished his annoucement, she folded her white napkin and left it on her plate. Picking up her robes, she stepped over the bench, brushing past her sister on her way through the crowds to the staircase. She didn't wait for the prefects to get the First Years in line. It would take them too long to get to the Portrait, besides, Bella didn't mind if she'd have to wait. Better than tagging along with the ragtag bunch. She made her way to the Slytherine tower, anxious to get into the common room.

Filch watched the students leave the Great Hall and break away to thier dormitories from his dank little corner, glaring at them as the walked by. One of the Hufflepuff first years gave a squeel of fright when he saw him. Once the Great Hall cleared out, he trekked onto his battlefeild. Making his way over to a massive bowl of mashed potatoes that had managed to be capsized, he began wondering what had come over him to sign up for another year at this blasted school. "It's going to be a long night, Mrs. Norrs." he muttered. But muttered to no one, seeing as Mrs. Norris was making her was around the school, waiting for lost students to find and destroy.

Severus suffered quietly through Dumbledore's yearly slew of rules and regulations that marked the end of the start-of-term feast. He made himself pay attention, however, as to not look like the glass-eyed, drooling Gryffindors on the other side of the room. He scoffed to himself as he looked at that certain group of particularly irritating Gryffindor boys also in his year. Pitiful. They couldn't even pay attention long enough to hear their beloved Dumbledore's babble.

After the speech was done, Severus took his time leaving the Slytherin table, as it made no sense to try and get out through the mass of people trying to squeeze out the door at that moment. Once the majority of the students were out, he picked up one last piece of toast, nibbling at it on his way to the Slytherin dungeons. He reached the dormitories and headed toward his room, thinking he ought to check to make sure none of his things had been mishandled by that disgusting squib of a caretaker, Filch.

Venatici stood as soon as Dumbledor was done. He wanted to beat the crowd out so that he could swing by the library. Just for a quick look, though. He didn't want to be caught out after hours. Not to mention he still needed to make sure Ara and his suitcase made it to the room in one piece.

Once he made it through the crowd and to the library, he immediately started looking for books on magical creatures that he hadn't read yet.

Narcissa didn't bother paying attention to the resident crackpot as he spoke again. It was the same thing every year, so it couldn't possibly be important. She still hadn't figured out why he was still here. It's not like he did anything, he just talked before or after meals and ate food. He was useless.

Regardless, Narcissa sat there, bored, waiting for the end of the speech. When he was done, she stood. And when she stood, so did Chattel. And the girl followed her out of the hall, much like a puppy. It was then that Narcissa decided to point out to her that first years are supposed to follow the Prefects, not her, even though she was gorgeous, and people should follow her, doing everything she asked. And so, the girl walked off with the rest of her kind, leaving Narcissa to enjoy a lovely, not being followed by a lost puppy, walk to the Slytherin dungeons.

"Yeah, you can sneak over to The Three Broomsticks and use your charm to get us all some firewhisky, Sirius, I'm sure."

Sirius grinned, "Of course I can, Remus. I could win over anything with my dashing good looks and charm. But since when do you condone the illegal drinking of firewhisky! I agree with Jamesy; you must have forgotten that you have the law to uphold!" He laughed and waved at Remus as he got up to lead the first years to the tower. "I have been doing a lot of thinking over the summer. It was the only thing I could do to tune out the endless insults from my family..." Sirius trailed off, not meaning to have brought up his family again. "I just know that this party will be an amazing start of the term if we can pull it off," he said, the familiar fiery glint back in his eye. "Let's go, James. I don't want to have to wait for the first years to file in through the portrait before we can get in." He got up from the table and headed towards Gryffindor tower, waving at people as they hailed him.

As he walked, he was lost in thought of Remus' behaviour earlier. He was certain he'd caught Remus stairing at him during Dumbledore's speech, but he didn't want to jump to conclusions. He felt the familiar leap in his stomach as he thought about the possibility of Remus' attention solely on him, but he shook these thoughts from his head. For now, he'd have to worry about planning the party. What would happen then would come later...

Remus met the first years at the front of the Gryffindor table with the female Prefect in his year. Together they led the small, excited children around the magical castle, telling them where exactly the corridors were that were forbidden to visit, the portraits that one should avoid if one wants to make it to class on time, how to figure out the magic of the moving stair case, and even a few jokes of Professors that taught at Hogwarts. Remus found it easy to give this tour and tell them where everything was at -- he was even enjoying it. When they made it to the portrait to the Gryffindor Common Room, Remus wanted to keep going, showing them all of the little secrets to the large castles, but the faces before him looked tired and plus, the image of Sirius, James, and Peter burst into his mind and he realized that he missed them.

Saying the password, Remus turned around and addressed the first years. "Boys, your dormitory is upstairs and to your left. Girls, your dormitory is upstairs on the right. Your trunks and animals will have already arrived. Sleep well, then."

As the first years shuffled towards their dormitories, Remus said goodnight to the girl he was giving the tour with as he turned on his heel, scanning the room for his three friends.

Sirius hurried up towards the Gryffindor tower, hoping to arrive there before most of the good seats were taken. He hurried through a secret passage he, James and Remus had found in their third year, which brought him almost straight to the portrait. Once he was there, he said the password and clambered through, finding a seat for James, Remus, Peter and himself. He found four chairs in the corner near the fire, and sat down in the furthest one. He waited for James and Peter to join him, realising that he could have waited for them. Shrugging to himself, he slouched down in his seat, wondering when Remus would be joining them.

Suddenly, the portrait hole opened and Sirius saw first years piling through. He sat up attentively, knowing that Remus woud soon come through. Sure enough, seconds later he saw Remus climbing in, and Sirius couldn't keep himself from admiring the way Remus' body moved: graceful, yet awkward. It was enticing. He heard the familiar schpeel about dormitories and saw Remus look around for him. He waved at Remus, grinning like an idiot.

As soon as the first foot stepped out side the grand hall, Rita let the bunches of papers in her arms fall free towards the students. As she saw people moving faster than the papers were falling, she conjured a quick breeze witha flick of her wrist to make the articles move faster to her classmates, then a hover charm to make them float above her classmates heads so they would not miss them. When it appeared the last student had left the grand hall and all her articles had been dispensed, Rita returned to the hall to collect her recording device. Seeing it was full of information, she smiled and headed toward her own common room.

Lily stands up from the bench she sat at, and started following everyone out of the Great Hall.

Already, the feast was over... That was fast. She couldn't wait to get to sleep, and have the school year start! She was so excited.

Gilderoy stretched slowly as Dumbledore finished his speech. The low murmur of sighs told him that this move was much appreciated. As he sat upright, he flashed a smile toward his fan club. The girl to his right began to stand up and Gilderoy hurried to asist her with her chair. She politely thanked him to which Gilderoy replied, "It was no truoble at all milady. I'm just doing what any respectable gentleman would do in the presence of a beauty such as yourself." The girl turned crimson before thanking Gilderoy again and heading toward the doors. Gilderoy noted that she ran into quite a few chairs on the way. Gilderoy turned his attention back to the Hufflepuff table and pushed his own chair in, signally his immediate departure. He heard the brisk tap of feet to hsi left and turned, nodding toward the fan club president as he walked toward him.

"Mr. Lockhart, you have a meeting with the first years in 30 minutes in the West Coutyard. Then after that we're scheduled to meet with Professor Sprout. "

"Ah, thank you Dempsy. On top of things already! This looks to be a promising year with you as president. Is everything with the club going as planned?"

"Oh yes Mr. Lockhart. Everyone's ready to get this school year started. Many people have already sent in event ideas for this semester. I can fill you in on the rest of the details on the way to the courtyard."

"Right-o! Wouldn't want to keep the first years waiting." Gilderoy turned to give his still seated classmates one last smile and wave before following Dempsy toward the door. As he exited the Great Hall, Gilderoy noticed that it seemed to be raining papers. "How odd. Dempsy, do grab one of those for me."
