The Lone Shadow

Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
Kira and Isis listened to everything that was going on, but stayed silent for the moment. They had very little to say, as for they're actions, it seemed like the cat had been attacking, so they were justified in behaving the way they had. Not that they felt they had to apologize or justify anything. They were protecting they Alpha. At the mention of training, Kira turned to Yukki and blinked slightly, training, right, she should get to that too. What good was she as a Beta, if she was too weak to be of any use to her Alpha? "Um, could you help me with the books, Yukki?"
I think the healthy way to live is to make friends with the beast inside oneself, and that means not the beast but the shadow. The dark side of one's nature. Have fun with it and you know, is to accept everything about ourselves.
Things had certainly been quiet enough as of late though hopefully they wouldnt be like that for long. Making his way across the academy hotaru approached the wall where the scrolls were located. Shrugging off his rucksack down he began to load every single suiton, fuuton, doton, katon, and raiton scroll for every jutsu d rank and below into his rucksack that he could fit. Not surprisingly he managed to get every single E and D rank elemental jutsu as well as the scroll containing the information on shunshin. Clipping everything in place he shrugged it on and headed out.
She figured her brother would want to do some work in the academy so she headed there first. After all he was one of those long range ninjutsu people. With a sigh she waited for him to arrive before chuckling,"Alright what do you want to study first?" She was going to work on learning the jutsu her mother told her of but she also wanted to know what he was going to work with.
Takeshi followed behind his sister and looked around the academy as soon as they arrived. "Hmm. Well I suppose studying some genjutsu wouldn't be a bad idea." He would say before walking over to some shelves with all sorts of different genjutsu. A short moment was followed before Takeshi found one that he wanted to learn. He smiled and walked over to a spot to train on. The Genjutsu he found was pretty simple so he did the handseals that were with it. Then he prepared the genjutsu mentally, placing all of the effects into the chakra that he was gathering. The effects decided were to change the persons sight was. So instead of 180 degrees their sight would be reduced down to 60 degrees. This would be proved useful even if the Genjutsu only took hold for a few moments. Once he was done he would take a look at his sister. "What are you going to learn?" [E-Rank learned Shimaru Shikaku [ Closed Sight ]]
Giving the question a moment of thought she smiled,"I will probably work on some of our clan techniques. Ill be in the other room ok?" With a smile she turned on heel and headed out of the room. Making her way though the academy she picked up a length of wire from the wall where the training supplies were located. She took a moment to wind the wires though her kunai and a couple shuriken before tying it off securing them. Returning them to her holster she recalled the days training with her mother and her instructions. Slowing her breathing she pulled her kunai free from their holster and sent them flying before quickly wrapping the ends of the wires around her fingers. Carefully tugging and releasing she quickly learned how to manipulate them mid-flight. [1/1] [1/5] [1/3]
Stepping forward she allowed some slack to form in the lines before whipping them overhead while he pulled a handful of wired shuriken from her holsters sending those flying as well. Using skillful manipulations and tiny finger twitches she maneuvered the projectiles towards a series of training dummies where they each stuck fast. Pulling her hands to her lips she raced though the small string of seals before exhaling a stream of flames onto the wires. The flames raced down the wires until they came in contact with the dummies where they quickly engulfed them. [1/1] [2/5] [2/3]
After the flames burned out she made her way across the academy while removing the wires from around her fingers. Once she reached the burned out dummies she pulled her armament free and returned them to her holsters before pacing back across the academy. There was something she wanted to try that she could never do while training with her mother despite her intense training. Looking back across the academy she watched her brother, ever since they were kids they had pushed against each other to the others benefit. [3/5]
Now again as before she would not allow him to grow stronger than her, not before, not ever. Despite the animosity that most would perceive between the two there was in fact, none to be found as the two cherished the other above all else. Taking a deep breath she slowed her breathing down as she concentrated her chakra into her throat and began to inhale. [4/5]
Her hands moved to just in front of her chest from where they were as she formed a seal and held it there. As she continued to channel her chakra around her body the smell of vanilla became very pronounced within the academy building it was a crisp and clean, light and airy. Forming another seal her chakra activated as she brought her fingers to her lips and exhaled. As she did so a rather good sized ball of flames poured from her mouth and streamed along the path she directed with her fingers. The ball of flames engulfed the dummies she had set ablaze moments before once again igniting the burned out dummies before they burnt to ash and blew away. [1/1] [5/5] [3/3]
Brushing her hair from her face she stood up smiling. She was an official Uchiha now that she knew that jutsu. An uchiha, one who fanned the flames off the spirit of fire. With an emboldened sense of accomplishment she made her way across the academy to where the genjutsu scrolls were located. Finding the two she needed she thumbed open the smaller scrolls and read them over quickly. First was the depth distortion jutsu, much like its name distorted the vision of the user hampering their ability to judge distances. Forming a seal she concentrated her chakra back upon herself and then into her eyes as the jutsu took hold. Of all the things she had done in her life this was the trippiest. Stumbling about a bit she laughed before falling onto her butt and snapping out of the illusion. [1/1]
Rising back to her feet she laughed a bit more having oddly enough kinda liked that weird state of vision and feeling. Pushing herself back up she looked over the second jutsu again. This one would pair quite well with her Uchiha jutsu. Pulling a single kunai from her belt she, again, focused her chakra back upon herself and sent the kunai flying. Now she knew she only threw one but her eyes lied to her. Her eyes saw four more kunai along with the first one sailing away. Shaking her head free and clearing the jutsu's effects from her mind she smiled and made her way over to her brother,"Im gonna go head over to the dojo ok. See ya there little brother." With that she turned on heel and headed out of the academy towards the dojo [1/1]

Masahiro made his way down to the academy, winding his way through the building until he reached the jutsu library. Thumbing the door open he looked in, no one was on duty within and the walls were bare in the Genin and Chuunin specialized sections of the room. A static charge filled the room and the man within roared, a beastial temperance washing over him as he did so.
Reaching his right hand out in a flexing motion he made a handseal, as described in the writings in Ryoku's desk, and an echoing sound would ring through the ears of any in the village who bore the markings of the ANBU or Oinin corps with the location and calling of the Hokage. Fury grew over the man as he stood staring into the room and began to make his way further into it. Maruton, Fuuinjutsu, Kuchiyose, as well as several other subsets of jutsu, such as Kugutsu, Eisijutsu, and the like remained, but everything relating to Elemental Techniques rated from E-D Ranks had been stolen from the safe haven of the village.
Entering further into the sanctuary of the library the man stood and eyed the area where the shelves began to fill again, before entering the room that was filled with Fuuinjutsu.
"I want, no, the village needs, whosoever committed this heinous crime apprehended. It had to have been one of our own or someone with stolen credentials to enter this far. I'm delegating this task to our Oinin Corps. As of this moment no less than three ANBU are to be assigned Library Duty. One on front Entrance, another at the check-in desk, and another guarding the Jounin and Fuuin Entrance." The Hokage spoke as his ANBU began to arrive.
"Oinin, you are tasked with, under extreme prejudice, to find the individuals responsible for this. I want to know who, what, and why they did this. If it is an organization, I want you to report back to me."

"So...all the elemental scrolls of lower class? Sounds like they couldnt carry anything larger. So a snatch and grab. Any leads as to who Im looking for or am I just roughing up fences...?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Whoever did this will be looking to cash in on their ill gotten gains. We need to hit and hold the places where they could do this without raising suspicions. Forget roughing up fences, Oinin, I want them torn down. If this gets back to the UHV that we're weakened again we can expect another assault. That is not favourable." The Hokage officially declared, Masahiro's eyes set to those of the Oinin who spoke, before turning to look to the other ANBU who were also still about.
Giving a flick of his wrist for them to scatter only a few remained in the positions he demanded.
"Gimangakure is a criminal hotspot if you follow the rumours. We've also lost communications with Otogakure in recent times. I knew of an expedition being sent from Suna to try and glean some information from both sources, but I returned home before that mission came to fruition." He said with a lilt to his voice.
"But we cannot ignore others who may be nearby as well. I'll shore up defenses of the village and maintain the lockdown on the gates for the time being." Masahiro finished, looking into the eyes behind the mask.

She was on the roof outside putting on proper field attire. She slipped on a long sleeved skin tight shirt and then her vest over it. Her gameface was on and taka was going to hurt somebody.

The large gates of the academy were in sight, opened to all who wished to enter inside and seek further knowledge of their desired studies. It was also the place were Academy Students learned the basics of Shinobi skills, and discover their own innate talents to advance as they progress through their career. This place was not foreign to her, and upon entering through the large wooden gates, she headed towards the room that housed the scrolls for learning Ninjutsu. A masked figure clad in black stood in front of the room, guarding it, from what Masumi was able to perceive. She approached them, quickly halted in her footsteps as she advanced for the door. The masked individual questioned her, as her figure was bare of any sign of Konohagakure's emblem. After explaining the situation at hand, she was asked to leave until she received a headband. Masumi did not argue with them, for she was in no place to do so, and instead turned away. Finding a room to call her own, she dimmed the lights to learn a special set of techniques related to her clan inheritance.
Kageton Training Posts:D - B Ranks
Kageton, also known as Shadow Release, was a special skill that the Nara clan possessed, enabling them to manipulate their shadows with chakra. Masumi learned about this ability back in Gimanagakure when her mother trained her, but only got as far as grasping how the manipulation was performed and its primary weakness: light. Closing the door, the lights were dimmed even more, leaving the room in a state of near darkness. Light enough to see the the manipulation of her shadows, but dark enough to where they could travel throughout the room if need be. [1/4] [1/5] Forming a hand seal with her hands, chakra was focused down her body into the bottoms of her feet. The chakra pooled into the shadow beneath her figure, giving her complete control over its movements and shape. The shadow receded, until she was left without a shadow, slithering up her legs in a snake-like fashion, as the shadow slimmed and lengthened for its travel up to her arms. [2/4] [2/5] The shadow traveled up her torso, dipping under her arms before rising over her shoulders and down to her elbows. It was there that the shadows gathered together, the fair pigment of her skin covered in a veil of darkness. The remainder of her arms from there continued to be consumed in these shadows, covering her arms and hands. If it weren't for the fact that she was a physical being, her arms could have been the very two-dimensional form that the shadows were prior to manipulation. [3/4] [3/5] The shadows extended from her hands and fingertips as an exact replica of her hands, only in shadow form. With the amount of available darkness in this area, she was able to extend these shadow arms, manipulating them at her will. They would prove useful in many situations in the future, as these shadow limbs were extra-malleable. [4/4 - Shadow Release: Far Reaching Darkness Learned] [4/5] The shadows retracted back to her hands, as they remained covered in her own shadow. With further manipulation, from the shadows formed a blade of about a foot long in length. Due to its construction being of manipulated shadows, it was not as durable or powerful as a normal blade, but with the darkness surrounding her, she extended the blade, making it three times it original length before giving it a testing swing. [5/5 - Shadow Release: Shadow Blade Learned]
The Nara clan's prowess in shadow manipulation went farther than the creation of weapons and extended limbs. With further training, one could manipulate their shadow to conceal the appearance of an object or person, a technique designed to be purely deceptive. These shadows being an imitation, cannot perform physical actions, but instead act as an upgraded transformation technique. [1/4] Masumi positioned herself in front of the table, which she would use to test out the technique. Her shadow extended with the formation of a hand seal and chakra expulsion into the shadow, at her will. Crawling across the floor, the shadow found the legs of the table and continued to travel, until it covered the table's flat surface among the top, completely. [2/4] The table was consumed in complete darkness, until the shadow seemingly vanished, the table gone along with it. From Masumi's perspective, it was if a chair was standing by itself; the table never having been there, as the floor could be seen clearly from where the table used to be. Approaching the chair, she laid a hand upon the air in front of it, an eyebrow raising in interest as her palm came in contact with an invisible surface. [3/4] The possibilities from usage of this technique were endless in Masumi's mind, as the gears started turning in her head. Her specialties that she has yet to train in, in conjunction with this technique would prove to have some interesting results, and she couldn't wait to test them out. As far as her studies on her clan's special manipulation, she was impressed. And she hadn't even gotten to the good stuff yet. [4/4 - Shadow Release: Shadow Trick Learned]
While the Nara clan's shadow manipulation had many uses, the use it was famously known for, was its ability to manipulate others by connecting their own shadow to the targets. It was this very type of manipulation that made the Nara clan feared in some aspects, with the ability to control others against their will. Yet, with further control over their shadows, they could bestow them physical power, allowing them to cause damage to targets, which in some cases may be more reliable than the usual imitations. [1/5] [1/5] Masumi moved outside for the next set of techniques she was going to learn, returning the room back to its original state, by releasing the shadow that covered the table before exiting. She found an area relatively dark, but decided against it, to test her shadow manipulation in lighter areas. In combat, the condition of terrain, weather, and lighting were not always going to be on her side, and so she'd have to learn to deal with that sooner than later. [2/5] [2/5] Having positioned herself in front of three training dummies in a lighter area, she first took note of the available lighting, and how it affected her shadows. The sun was positioned directly above her, causing her shadow to be much smaller, which meant it was just about noontime. This didn't bother her in the slightest, as there were ways of extending her shadows reach, should she need to do so. Forming a seal, she began to extend her shadow, its thinness showing the amount of stress the light was putting on it. [3/5] [3/5] Veering off to the left towards a nearby tree, whose massive size and abundance of leaves provided massive shading below, the shadow connected with it. Weaving back out, the shadow appeared to be much stronger this time, barely affected by the sun's light since its connection with a stronger shadow source. The shadow thinned slightly, splitting into three different pieces, while still connected to the main line, heading for the dummies. It connected with each of the dummies shadows, and if they were live targets, would thus be paralyzed unless Masumi herself made any movements. [4/5] [4/5] However, despite the dummies already being stationary, testing her shadow's physical power would not be an issue. From within the pool of shadows beneath the figure of the dummy, arose her own shadow, coiling around the base of the dummies simultaneously, and traveling up the torso. They slithered past the shoulders, binding the arms and wrapping around the necks, the sound of the wood slightly creaking due to their power was evidence that the skill was working. She successfully endowed physical power within her own shadows. [5/5 - Shadow Imitation Technique and Shadow Neck Binding Technique Learned]
Masumi willed her shadows to release the three dummies, allowing them to recede back to the main source, beneath her figure. She moved herself nearby some wooden logs placed for training, since the next few techniques she was going to learn were going to be offensive. Deciding to use her own shadow to test out the technique, she knelt down, placing her hands upon the shadow. [1/5] With the palm of her hand flat against the darkness, she slid her hand forward, as an attempt to 'push' the shadow. The shadow responded, probably not as much as she'd like, with a ripple within its darkness. It appeared that Masumi didn't add enough force to her push, or enough chakra into her shadow to get the desired results on the first try. [2/5] Attempting the technique for a second time, Masumi did both of the probable issues to her previous failure, flowing more chakra through her hands, and adding more force to her push. The shadow moved along with her hand for a moment, as if it were a water-like mass, before rising up, continuing its forward momentum. At first it was about three feet, but it nearly doubled that size, approaching the logs like a black ocean-wave. [3/5] This shadow possessed, surprisingly, a lot of cutting potential, meeting with the logs and slicing a good sized chunk off the top of them. They fell to the floor within the shadow, and Masumi found this to be a perfect time to test a combination technique. [4/5] [1/4] From within the shadow already being manipulated, more chakra was applied in the attempt to create a impact pushing/pulling effect that the technique was known for. It was more specifically used as a form of collaboration for pulling in enemies that were caught within Kageton techniques at further ranges. However, Masumi could think of many opportunities alone where this technique would prove more than useful. [5/5 - Shadow Release: Wave of the Crescent Moon Learned] [2/4] The new layer of chakra that coursed through the shadow now, would hopefully take its affect as the shadow wave continued forward, expanding somewhat as water would. The fallen logs inside the shadow would shift forward along with the shadow's movement, being pushed back as the technique was changed from a cutting to impact type. If the shadow could push, then pulling must be the other half of the this technique's ability, hence its name. 3/4 The shadows expansion slowed drastically, almost coming to a near stop as it had reached its maximum limit for this moment. Masumi allowed the shadow wave to recede back to her, using the chakra previously applied to manipulate the shadows into performing a pulling effect towards the targets within its grasp. The fallen logs were successfully pulled along with the shadow, grouped together in one section, bumping against each other and the standing logs, until the shadow released them, returning to the area beneath Masumi's body. [4/4 - Black Spider Lily Learned]
Her shadow returned to normal, resuming its original state as the shadowy silhouette beneath her figure, its appearance transformed by the current position of the sun. Masumi retrieved a few projectile weapons from the holster on her shoulder, a Shuriken and a Kunai. The technique she was preparing to learn required the use of such projectiles to utilize in a technique that was similar to its parent technique, the Shadow Imitation Technique. [1/7] The main principles of the technique still applied, using ones shadow manipulation in order to control or cease the movements of their targets. However, this only allowed the completely paralysis of the opponent, and as a trade off, it was far stronger than its parent technique, in terms of difficulty to escape. The performance of this technique made it harder for targets to catch on to what the Nara is trying to do, and can often be used is the Shadow Imitation technique itself has failed, or has already been used on the target more than once. [2/7] Instead of manipulating ones shadow to connect to the other, it required a decent amount of chakra control, in order to channel Kageton chakra through projectile weapons such as Kunai and Shuriken. It could be channeled into larger weapons as well, such as knives, daggers, and even swords; the possibilities were endless, but required near-perfect accuracy. The idea behind using projectiles infused with Kageton chakra was to aim specifically for the target's shadow to cease their movements, without having them attached to the user. [3/7] Allowing the user free range of movement without the worry of their target's mobility offered a wide range of tactics. Its range was limited only by the user's ability, as this specific technique doesn't suffer its weakness of range or bright lights, making it an excellent choice of attack should both of those be an issue. However, this technique isn't invincible, and can be disrupted by the disappearance of one's shadow or removal of the blade. [4/7] It was time for Masumi to test the technique out for herself, after taking time to think through the technique's mechanics. Gripping the Kunai in her right hand, she wrapped her fingers around the handle of the projectile weapon, channeling chakra into it. This came naturally to her, as part of her specialization included Bukijutsu, more specifically swords and projectile weapons. [5/7] The Kunai was now imbued with her chakra, but not to the point where a visible aura of chakra could be seen around it. That amount of chakra wasn't really needed for the technique to work, but just enough for her chakra to react with the target's shadow to initiate the paralysis effects similar to the Shadow Imitation Technique. Now, she would have to find a target to test the technique one, but who? It would be rude of her to just throw it at a random shinobi without their consent, though it would be amusing for her, she didn't really want to deal with anyone's crap. Just then, the leaves rustled, a squirrel climbing down from the tree and running across the ground. [6/7] Masumi eyed the squirrel, quickly flicking the shuriken towards it with impressive speed and accuracy. The Kunai itself just missed the squirrel, plunging into the ground where its shadow was. The squirrel froze immediately, unable to move no longer. It may have appeared as animal cruelty to some, but she wasn't trying to hurt them. As a tender of deer, hurting an animal wasn't even in her thoughts. Walking up the paralyzed, terrorized squirrel, she gently petted him, removing the blade and watching him scurry off back up into the tree. [7/7 - Shadow Imitation Shuriken Technique Learned]

Masumi let out a calming sigh, appearing to be rather relaxed after her Kekkei Genkai training. She looked towards the building where the scrolls were housed, then at the masked figure guarding the doorway. Her arms raised high, she kicked a leg out, stretching as a soft yawn escaped her. Was she tired? Hell no, but with the lack of anything to keep her busy at this moment, laziness was quickly taking over. However, before it could fully set in, she took some time out to clean up her station, reorganizing the logs and setting them dummies back to their neutral state. She found her back back to the room she used prior to her training, making sure it was back in the condition she found it, leaving the door open and the lights on, so others would know it was available for their use. Maroon eyes scanned the area around her, watching some of the other Genin train or converse among themselves. Idle chit-chat wasn't exactly something she was into, unless she was flirting, and preferred to stay busy. It was how she was raised, but she'd have to adjust to this relaxed lifestyle for a while. Another yawn erupted from her chest, nearly catching her off guard. No point in fighting it. She sighed softly, shrugging her shoulders.
Turning on the balls of her heel, she headed for a lone tree, finding a comfortable branch to relax in that was heavily shaded. Others could still spot her if they ever bothered to look up, for she was pretty high. This way, she could stay out of the way of others training without taking up space in the academy standing idle. From the small back on her left hip, she retrieved a book. Its contents held vast amounts of information on chakra, how it worked, and the like. Masumi flipped the book open to where she had left off, seeming to be drawn into the book immediately, and while to others it may appear that she was completely consumed into the book, she was well aware of her surroundings as well.

As the ANBU and Oinin at his call dispersed to take care of their appointed tasks the shinobi known as Masahiro would shake his head and make towards the entrance of the library, grabbing a few fuuinjutsu scrolls upon his way. His eyes shifted among the others who stood outside of the room. He saw upon his exit an ANBU who gave to him notice of two students passing through his office, handing him their Academy dossier. One of which had been here by the office recently. This gave Masahiro pause, his duties as Hokage demanded he see to these students immediately. Following one of the ANBU he made his way towards Nara Masumi, entering the room the woman was reading in.
"Nara Masumi?" He asked as he approached the woman in the room, opening her dossier to inspect it.
"I am Hatake Masahiro, Jounin and Hokage. I was told by my ANBU that you came by to see me?" He asked in a quiet tone to match the silence of the room.
Her eyes scanned each page carefully, soaking in its contents and committing them to memory. Her fingers gently took a hold on the corner of the page, preparing to turn to the next as a presence made itself known at the entrance to her room. She continued with her motion, awaiting for the person to leave, assuming they didn't realize the room was already occupied. However, the manner in which her name was addressed and the intriguing voice behind it caught her attention, her head tilting to inspect the figure further. A tall man with silvery-white hair that fell well past his hips, holding a folder in one hand, and a bundle of scrolls in the other. His youthful appearance contradicted the age she assumed him to be, with a muscular body that showed signs of physical training of some sort.
So this was the Hokage, Masahiro Hatake. Masumi fully turned to him, still sitting casually in her chair, crossing her legs upon one another, and letting her hands join, fingers interlaced resting upon the open book that was now placed in her lap. She was not one of the usual formalities the man may have been used to, but by no means was she being disrespectful either. "Yea, that's right." She paused, looking up to the man, making full eye contact. An aloof gaze with eyebrows furrowed naturally, giving her an overall stern, somewhat intimidating visage, she spoke once more. "I came here after finding out that you weren't in your office. Though my intention for coming here was to train, your ANBU guarding the entrance to the scrolls would only permit entry after I receive a headband. I was unsure of who you were at the time, only knowing of you by name and status."
Her arms motioned for a new position, finding more comfort being crossed upon her chest, a hand raised to be rested under her chin as she leaned back in the chair. "Now that we've met officially, I suppose I'll be getting one now?" She asked plainly, looking to the scrolls bundled in his arm, curious as to what their contents were.

"Yes, I can manage that quite easily. I don't have any with me, currently, but since my ANBU don't normally wear their own." He made a gesture to one of the guards in the hallway, tapping his forehead.
The ANBU stared blankly from behind his mask, reaching into his pocket to retrieve a new headband on a black backer. It was still folded and wrapped in the packaging with which the prior Hokage had them delivered. Catching it Masahiro gave his ANBU a deft bow of the head and turned to face the woman who sat in the chair across from him. Ever the Nara, much like Ryoku and Doc, quiet, deferential, but she was unique too. She kept herself in different surroundings. This amused the Hatake. Tossing her the headband from across the room the man smiled briefly, only when he smiled did the weight of his years show upon his face. Thirty-four long years, filled with betrayal, death, anger and hatred, and loss. Still he could sit here and smile to this young genin.
"I apologize for the status of the Library right now. Someone has committed subterfuge against our village. Elemental jutsu Ranks E and D are currently unavailable for training until I have the commissioned again." The man admitted freely, mistakes of the past administration.
"Your dossier says you're a Bukijutsu user who has shown promise with ninjutsu? If so then we have a lot in common."
