Gabrielle_AnimalLuver thx, my mom says he's ugly evil that he looks like a toad lol, but I think toads are cute. I'm sure I'll never get a good enough look at him to sex him so I decided that HE is a HIM. He's getting ever so slightly better. He tail whipped a platy today that was stealing his food. Oh, I had a tiny snail explosion lol...It doesn't bother me yet, but, today I found a swarm of them on Shy's waffer. Am I maybe feeding him too often?
I'd cut his wafers in half, give him half a day. He's still young so he doesn't need a lot, but he should eat everyday to grow big and strong, and so he gets used to eating in this new environment. I find it takes them a while to get to the point where the second a wafer hits the water, they come running. If the platies aren't finishing all of their food, give them less. How's he doing with vegetables so far? Did you get a veggie clip?
If she thinks he's ugly, show her a pic of a full grown male bristlenose.

I agree, half a waffer (and a pic of a male BN xd ). He'll learn to keep his food safe and eat it before some one else does.

don't be mad but... veggie clip???
I SHOULD be getting another fish this week. Probably a betta, but I've been putting it off, one, been a bit busy, but also still very paranoid about everyone getting along. And since the betta's at the store are all no longer chilling with other fish, I feel like I have no way of knowing if they aren't gona be overly aggresive.

A veggie clip is just a little clip with a suction cup on it so you can tether your lettuce/veggies to the side of the tank. It's easier for the pleco to eat that way. They're pretty cheap as it is, but you could also make your own.

I think he would starve to death if I didn't wedge his algea wafers into his hiding spot.

Honestly, he's just gunna have to learn. He'll figure it out. He'd rather hide then eat right now, but he'd rather eat and live then starve to death in the long run. I dont think babying him will help him figure it out lol

I dont think babying him will help him figure it out lol But if I don't the platies will eat his food crying If he's in his hide, he will defend it. And he only just started too. If defending his food means leaving his hide, forget it, he'll just let them eat it. And I try to distract them by feeding them their own flakes right after I put in the wafer, but they always find it after.

Aight, I decided to put his wafer, about an inch or two away from his hide. After 10-20minutes, I thought I saw him munching on it, and then I made the mistake of looking at him rolleyes So he dashed back to his hide. But 2mins later he was out again, only now one of the platies discovered his wafer and is not only eating it, but slowly dragging it away from his hide. gonk

See, he's learning already! Just give him time =)
I would suggest Hikari brand. If you can find them, Omega One and New Life Spectrum are great brands, but I'm not sure if they make algae wafers in those brands or not. PetSmart and Pet Supermarket has Omega One, PetCo has NLS.

None of those stores exist in Quebec. But I'll stop in next time I'm in Ontario. Which, provided Cowboy heals well enough, should be next month.

Oh we have petsmary and petco, just not in my province. I usually go shopping at petsmary every time I visit family in Ontario. The prices suck, but they carry a lot of neat stuff. I just like to walk down each isle and admire all the toys with Cowboy. My dad always intercepts me before the cash and talks sense into me. Until he started to shop there lol. That's where Cowboy's napsack came from.

Vegetables might be a better option if you can get him to go for those. They're more nutritious and the platies probably won't go for them. Aside from that I agree with Akari on brands.
