((Woo Hi-5s. You are very excitable tonight, lol. Feel free to control the NPC you're fighting))

Nicholas took note of the spray bottle dropping to the stone floor and made sure to swiftly take it back in hand. He pocketed the item and would consider returning it to Jacqueline later that evening. And so may none ever speak of it. Top priority was making sure Jacqueline was alright, though it just seemed she felt violated and embarrassed, he could smell no blood nor did he notice any injuries.

Nicholas managed to turn to face Jackie and untangled her from his jacket. Like protective wings he wrapped his arms around her and secured the human against his chest. "Shh, shh... It's okay, it's over." He whispered to her ear soothingly, hoping to calm her. Nicholas moved one hand, stroking Jacqueline's soft brown hair. He could take little pleasure in the other vampire's anguish and defeat, finding it insignificant in comparison to the worries of his newly befriended human.

Nick after a while took the moment to gaze up at what was going to take place next. The night had consisted of repeated battles, but no matter who won where, the war was not yet over.

Valen, before apparently going to try and calm the situation the best he could, dared speak to him. He went as far as claiming to not have done wrong. To Nicholas the existence of the Immortui was wrong, so was the repeated forced kisses on Jackie, as well as the seduction of her parents. The middle count was a crime and the last one seemed like an excuse for an Immortui to find human puppets to slaughter. What arrogance, to claim innocence here, from humans no less.
It was like a killer whale demanding the penguins, which he loved to consume, forgive him for his latest act of gluttony.

Going with the concept of a duel was quite clever of course, making a big fuss, making him seem at least honorable. Though Nick felt that Valen was taking the claim to blindness a little too far, making himself appear weak and as if asking for sympathy.

Nicholas did not need to be told to remove Jackie from the scene. He would personally have taken her off to the side to comfort her further, had Valen not gone and asked for his presence. He felt bad having to leave the human at this moment, but Jacqueline's mother luckily was present and she could hopefully calm her daughter down more. "Jacqueline, I have to see this to the end. Nicholas whispered and gave her one last tight hug before, at least trying to, separate himself from the girl. "I'll only be a moment." He added and then nodded toward her mother. "Please, Mrs O'Conner." Nick spoke quietly and let the older woman soothe her child.

Nicholas' expression had lacked joy since Valen had taken Jackie to the gardens, and it had not turned. His face was akin to stone, emotionless and unchanging. His purple eyes, like gemstones in his smoothly carved face, were steady yet alive as they observed the people present. "... While I deem it key that young Jacqueline O'Conner is well taken care of right now, I will personally not refuse my place in settling this matter of honor." He announced in reply and then proceeded to the dueling grounds with the rest of the party.

Nick found little surprise in Valen's quiet messages to him. Now the vampire was accusing him of attacking his Clan, not something Nicholas would take as fact though he expected the Immortui to come up with whatever excuse he used to justify hurting others. Nicholas felt all his actions to be in the defense of another, especially concerning all the times Valen had harassed Jackie, and not outright against Valen himself.

The Cognitio lifted up a hand in resistance when he was asked to take a position by Valen's side of the grounds, and shook his head. "I have been far too lenient and generous to you with my patience. Carry out this foolishness and let us get on with the rest of our evening, unless you are keen on further disrupting it." He spoke calmly and clearly. As a result, he stayed by the sidelines within a group of similarly minded individuals.
The group in general agreed - for they had all just come outside to the chilling evening air as Valen had some great desire to carry out this ancient, and to some even barbaric, tradition of a sword fight.
Valen was lucky to have found one of the only men to go along with such a notion. Most would have just sued him for all his worth with the help of the best lawyer's in the city, unless they themselves were them. The probability of winning such a case never mattered, they sometimes seemed prepared to sue the city itself when they tripped on the pavement while walking down the street. It was all for that potential money to be made. Heartless bastards that they were.

And so a duel was starting. Nicholas found little interest in it. He just hoped the vampire did not kill the human, otherwise there would be extensive complications. No matter how much he could probably make it look like an accident, the party would be over, the police would be here, they would all be questioned as to why someone was so stupid as to let two idiots pick up swords to fight with, etc etc.

((-stretches and rolls over- Gosh, so tired. Happy that this is done and written though. This might be it for me for tonight.))

(( -collapses on the floor- I have never had to think so hard on how to get out of a situation in my life @~@. I don't even know if this is gonna work at all....if it does't let me know and I will try and change it))/align]

Jacqueline Winced as Nicholas drew himself away to let her mother take control.
The make up-that had been so lovingly done by her mother, smudged down her face in thick black lines only comparable to a panda bear.

As the crowd dissipated, Jackie turned her head, her eyes landing on her mother as the woman, in no uncertain terms, voiced her protest to the fight her face no longer in that light, carefree smile as she eyed her daughter.

With out a word Jackie held out her hand, earning her a reproachful tut from the older woman as she fished through her purse, handing Jackie her mobile phone.
Jackie had never wanted to come in the first place.

Using her only working arm Jackie flipped open the phone lid (with a fair amount of difficulty) and hit the phonebook icon, scrolling through until she landed on the name of her uncle.
Pushing the call button down a little harsher then needed Jackie swayed on the spot slightly before turning and stalking back to the garage. Leaving her mother to stand there by herself.

With little more then 5 seconds passing between rings the phone call disconnected.
Snapping the lid shut the brown haired woman waited, her fist constricting tightly around the red plastic as she waited for Merry to arrive and take her home.

~~~
Watching her daughters reaction Maria sighed, the girls lack of conversation telling her all she needed to know. For what ever reason, Jackie had lost her temper and now the situation had escalated to something that was going to take a lot of smoothing over.
Pinching the bridge of her nose Maria sighed, this night was deffinatly not something she would want to repeat in a hurry and – hopefully this entire mess wouldn't end in to much fuss or violence.
Snapping her purse shut Jackie's mother turned on her heel, heading straight towards the front lawn. The rather short woman commanding respect as she marched through the crowd – though neither mother or daughter would admit it they were both identical in their temper.
Barry noticed as the crowd around him shifted, his eyes flitting to the small, demure woman who’s face could rival now that of the most ruthlessly efficient business man, her eyes calculating and cold as the two men in the middle of the living human wall exchanged blows.
Raising his hand in some vain attempt at protection Barry watched as his wife cleared her throat,
Her voice betraying the cold fury that was wracking her body
“you had better prey that the young man come's back from this stupid little game in once piece Barry Richard O'conner and then do what ever it takes to avoid his family's retribution...”
the old man opened his mouth to protest only to be stopped as Maria held up her open palm, effectively silencing her husband.
Barry, one of the better lawyers in this city was a figure to be messed with but it was becoming increasingly apparent that – though Barry wore the trousers he defiantly did not pick the colour shape or size, even though he and Maria had been married for nearly 50 years he knew that the entire relationship was run by his wife, the dominative little red head who's say was final and word was law.
“this had better turn out in our favour or Mr. Pendragon wont be the only one to receive a harsh reprimand tonight” With a final snort of indignation at her husbands (supposed) incompetence Jackie's mother skirted around the edge of the lawn, her body just as rigid as Jackie's as she drew herself beside Nicholas, her arms crossed as her face mirrored his stony exterior as her eyes flicked over to the main gait, watching in an almost predatory fashion as her daughter slipped through the iron bars and into her uncle's car “I don’t fully know the event's of this evening Mr. Sharpe but I do know that you have been with my daughter most of the night – I don't expect your life story but from the looks of tonight you and Mr. paendragon” she nodded mutely to the middle of the temporary arena “know each other” flicking her gaze to the taller man Maria turned fully to face him, her stature doing nothing to lessen the hardened gaze that the white haired male was earning
“My daughter has caused enough trouble for you to gentlemen and I have no doubt you can be......persuasive when need's be so I'll ask you once – call off this fight so I can start to smooth things over. If things get any more out of hand I'll come down on both of you idiotic men like the hand of god himself, do I make myself clear, Mr. Sharpe?”
Turning to watch the fight continue Maria waited, her arms fastened tightly across her chest as she waited for this display to come to an end – hopefully without to much damage to the family name.
(( ^^' she's not even an official character and I've managed to rite more with her then for Jackie this time >/////< -hands everyone a brick and sits in
the corner-))
((Brick? ... -gnaws on brick- o,...,o Very nice post btw! You'll notice stopping the fight is quite volatile after almost starting it up, and while we would have loved the bit of action, a gentleman must bide by the logic of avoiding violence.))
Nicholas was observant enough to catch the sight of Jackie leaving the scene. While he would miss her, and felt he had to make up for all this mess to her later, it was good that she was no longer in harm's way. She had his contact details and so he did not worry about the possibility of not seeing her again. If she called, they could just arrange a meeting at the Cognitio home and work things out.
When Jacqueline's mother Maria came to talk to him, he could not help but bend under her wishes. She was right. They had gone too far with this farce, starting a duel and all... In their right minds everyone ought to have called both of the fighters fools by now and put an end to it. Nicholas sighed and reprimanded himself, commanding in his own head for himself to act more intelligently next time. "... You're quite right." Nicholas agreed quietly. He groaned in annoyance and rubbed his temples. Maybe the evening could be salvaged.
With several brisk steps Nick landed himself in the middle of the duel. With his inhuman nature he had little worry about being harmed. Reaching for the sword hand of the human duelist, Nicholas swiftly wrangled the blade from his hand. He held the human still with his free hand and gave Valen a stern glare, but did not directly speak to either of them.
"Lady O'Conner must be the only one in her right mind for her desire to see an end to this stupidity. What manner of animals have we become to let this foolishness go so far?" Nicholas announced loudly, his gaze going around the gathered crowd. "May we carry our shame back inside and try to reclaim any remaining scraps of our human decency "
The people could do little but agree. Even the drunken individuals in the group were not particularly supportive of violence. They were people of class, or should have been. The humans applauded the result and raised voices against carrying on with any of this.
"Alright! Let's go back in and make Mr Wayan wish he had employed more caterers for this occasion!" Came a booming, jovial voice. It was Mr Johnson - Senior. He was quite a large man, obviously one who enjoyed the better things in life. The other humans took the gesture well and in good humor, though none could best that man when it came to eating.
The crowds began slowly drifting away from the scene, quite keen on being back inside in the warm. Nicholas was able to persuade Lord Justice to retreat from the scene and go calm himself.
Valen and Nicholas still stood on the grass, unmoving, a blade now in both of their hands. Nick lifted the rapier, holding it by the hilt, and smirked at Valen. "Humans... They make it evident we are nothing but animals ourselves." He spoke softly and flicked the sword from his grip. He had thrown it to Valen, trusting in the Immortui to bring the weapons back inside. "Have a pleasant evening, Mr Paendragon." He stated politely and turned to the flow of walking humans as they made their way out of the grounds.
((Also everyone blame Shining's job! Boo job! We'll go riot there later or something. Take care man, no doubt Dragonfly is keen on you catching up but none of us want you running yourself ragged trying to do too much.))
((Snuggles you just helped my boy get out of a horrific situation. And the post is magnificent at exploiting an NPC to stop two of the main characters... I could never have done it honestly and like Cake said, very nice post.
-Hugs- It's Ok. But in my next post I'll finish up this matter on the duel.
P.S. Shining, It's alright that you're away. You've managed to avoid getting too entangled in a battle between Consorts, tempting though it is to see them go at it.))
Valen had spent enough time playing off this mere human; he had no reason to make things last too much longer than needed. He froze in place in spite of the incoming attack, taking his time to deflect the initial thrust from Lord Justice as though his vision had returned. Yet to those close enough to see his eyes were still throbbing red with the chemically induced injury, making his regular sight well beyond what he was capable of. To those familiar enough with swordplay, his movements had been barely a blur of swerving steel that neatly disarmed the Judge with a flick of his wrist almost effortlessly. The duel had ended in his first victory in less than five minutes, and of course he had not even taken a step to go on the offensive at all. That in itself was proof this was his victory, at least to those watching with enough knowledge and experience to recognize it.
Then came Mrs. O'Connor, Maria herself, with an expression that would seem infinitely more appropriate to her true nature as a savvy and adept matriarch. Oh ho. So, Lady O'Connor is where Jackie gets that inner strength and boldness. And here I thought she was a regular doting mother. I'm just as glad to not make an enemy of that woman; humans as a whole are quite fragile and cowardly, but she is one of the rare few that redeems my former affiliations. From his standpoint on the field not far from the couple speaking at length he picked up snatches on the duel coming to an end by her request, the older human female recognizing that it was not entirely proper for such actions to occur at a party of all places.
At Nicholas' proclamation he fought back with every of his being the urge to call him out on his own words, itching with the same instinct as a snotty teenager to call out 'Bullshit!' in as many inventive phrases as possible. He's lecturing them on decency? I might as well eat this sword now to spare myself the indignation of living in the same world as this horse's a**. Better yet to let Sable and Kael make a portrait of my entrails as it would be far more preferable to dealing with this fool any longer. He would not even have been forced into the conflict without the other vampire's intervention, and his ability to twist the situation entirely to his liking had thoroughly disgusted the Immortui Consort. The mere hypocrisy of how Sharpe's own Clan proclaimed to be the most kind of the three remaining to humans yet allowed such a masterful manipulator as him to be among the greatest of their kind was near mind-boggling, and to dwell upon it for much longer threatened to rekindle Valen's rage towards the man. Not that he even needed much more of a reason to attack the White-Haired Annoyance; whatever the man care to say, he had been the sole influence in twisting events into how they had played out. That much was never in dispute.
At that the dark-haired man set his rapier down onto the ground, feeling the healing process itching over his sockets signalling that he was almost restored to his original status. It had taken minutes for the delicate orbs of his eyeballs to recover from the vicious chemical bath provided by Jackie, once again a result of Nick's meddling at its finest, and his sense were beginning to ease away from the sensation of raw horrifying blistering and coughing also brought about by the pepper spray. With the dispersal of the crowd he was more than glad to remain alone if only to keep himself occupied readjusting to normalcy after he had been so horrendously afflicted.
Then Valen opened his eyes to see Nicholas guiding the still shell-shocked Justice from the field, his pupils narrowing onto the purple shade of his opponent's own. At the other male's words he nodded himself, acutely aware that his fellow Consort stated in less than a dozen words, a human maiden had both provoked and ended the conflict between them. "Indeed humans do remind our kind that we are as monsters compared to them. We should be so fortunate as to reclaim a small measure of that same compassionate spirit towards others." It was a humbling and pivotal experience for Paendragon, as he was reminded of the unexpected nature that humans brought into his long existence. He had been treating them as trash when really they could become and oftentimes were living testaments of a higher standard that vampires may never truly be able to obtain courtesy of their universally twisted natures. The other reason for the night's events being so helpful were of course that he had met Nicholas Sharpe, and knew with a clarity born of the experience that they would be forever in opposition. There was simply no other way he could forget the night's events, and unlike himself who chose to handle such matters alone, he strongly suspected Sharpe would not hesitate to involve their respective Clans in the smallest of conflicts, even going so far as to bring in the Blood Mothers themselves.
Finally he spoke at last watching the rapier in Sharpe's hand, denoting that even when he was trying to remain indifferent the man seemed to give off an aura of provocation towards him that further confirm his distaste for Nick. With the second matching blade he caught it neatly out of the air, flashing a smile over to Nicholas as the only positive gesture the Consort of the Cognitio would ever receive from him in both of their extended lifetimes. "Enjoy the remainder of the evening Mr. Sharpe. Hopefully this incident has not left too much trouble for everyone involved." His last words were simple stated, preceding the Immortui to lengthen his strides walking past Nicholas seemingly ignoring his presence. His attention was brought back to Mrs. O'Connor for she was the one he owed his thanks to, and as such he wanted to confirm in person the depths of his gratitude. It was the very least he could do after all, particularly as the only other person to share that honor was Sharpe. Which in effect meant there was no one else at all.
Attending the party had been Nick's idea, though Anastasie was rather enjoying it. She always had considered it fun to take a few hours to relax and play politics, the perfect recreational activity. However, as the night had gone on and the puny humans had moved from national news to local gossip in conversation, Ana found herself drifting into the kitchen, where cooks were preparing a never-ending supply of finger foods and desserts.
A few heated discussions on whether a thin or thick layer of frosting was suitable for a certain pastry with a commonly misspronounced moniker and two near-disasters involving the Origin and an egg-beater narrowly missed later, and one could find the female vampire nursing a slightly-bruised pride and a chilled lemonade on the fringe of the crowd. She was keeping her eyes peeled in search of Nicholas, who had managed to disappear into the sea of people, when the sudden stench of super-quality pepper spray assualted her nose. The sight of Sable and her cronies had not missed Ana's notice, and as she hurriedly followed the eye-watering scent she could only hope that this had nothing to do with them, and more importantly, that Nick was not hurt. Not much could make him resort to such extreme measures, especially in the current vicinity. Finally she came upon the scene, just in time for Anastasie to view Nicholas successfully defuse the conflict between the Consort of the Immortui clan and a pompous little fellow whose names currently escaaped her. She trailed Nick back inside, and slipped two hands over his eyes. "You've been busy..." she murmured "I had no idea you were such a trouble maker."
[It's a little shorter than I would have liked, but I am simply too impatient to join in to expand. Writer's Block, begone!]
((I am as happy as my character for your arrival. It's so nice to see you here.))
Just when Nicholas thought he would have to go find her, for he could use her company now more than anything, the hands clasped over his eyes. He was surprised at first, but then her scent filled his nostrils and that musical voice, which only came from between those sweetest of lips, sung her words in his ears. Nick felt the stresses and burdens of the evening fall of his shoulders, as if he had shrugged off a thick winter coat.
The Consort smiled pleasantly, his cheeks reddening, and lifted his own hands to the one's covering his eyes. "You know how I get without you keeping me in check." Nick replied, his joy evident in his tone of voice.
"But you've been having an adventure of your own, haven't you?" He asked and gingerly gathered Anastasie's hands in his. He lowered them closer to his nose and he swore he could smell foodstuffs on her fingers. "I told you they have food prepared for us, you do not need to cook this evening." He teased her.
Unable to resist, he finally turned around. His smile only widened now that he saw her in person, almost having forgotten how dazzling that dress was on Anastasie. "Hello mi'lady." He greeted her and gave the back of her right hand a soft peck. "I hope I do not find you angered by my involvement with the Immortui."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2012 6:26 pm
"Simply trying to get the recipe for a tasty shrimp salad."
Anastasie insisted, smiling a smile always reserved only for her dear. Of course, she kept out the more...embarassing bits. The night, which had begun to grow stale, now brightened along with her expression.
"Curious as to how you managed to get yourself into a situation with such unsavory people, yes. Angry? Never."
Gently Ana leveled her eyes with Nick's purple-tinged ones. Of course she wasn't angry at Nicholas, that was one of the few feats that the Origin was simply incapable of. However, she was curious as to what could possibly convince him to spend his time interacting with the other Clan.
"So, how did my well-mannered and ever-so-kind gentleman tangle himself up in that drama?"
She teased, pulling him onto a small corner of the dancefloor. A few years ago, Anastasie had busied herself with the different mediums of dancing and rhythm, to rather satisfying results. For now, however, she contented herself with simply resting her head against Nick's chest and swaying to the music.
[Thank you both for your lovely and warm welcomes!]
(( Hullo Mrs. Emni~ emotion_kirakira nice t
o meet you! ))
Maria watched as the large crowed that had gathered started filing back inside to re-continue the nights festivities.
Inclining her head in Barry's direction as his que to leave Mrs. O'conner turned to face Valen as soon as the ground's emptied themselves of chattering an noisy by standers- the hard faced scowl that had been marring her features softening into a look of motherly concern as she held a handkerchief out for the injured boy "Honestly I will never understand how my husband can work with such a bolstering, crooked feathered peacock, he has little common sense and no manors - His poor family, how they cope is also another thing that will ever evade me" the light attempt at conversation fell away and echoed into uncomfortable silence.
Giving up on her attempt to avoid the up coming subject Maria decided that jumping in and hoping for the best would some how nullify any retribution or ill feeling from ".....I can only say how sorry I am Mr. Paendragon about Jackie's abominable behaviour....I do how ever think that in this situation not everyone is blameless, but i do recognise the actions of my daughters short temper...."
Hanging her head Maria looked at the floor, her eyes shut in what could only be seen as a pained expression at the thought of her daughter
Jackie had always been such a sweet and miles mannered girl, always willing to help and cheerful to no end~ The change in her daughter had been instant the moment she entered the hospital and sometimes Maria could't quite believe her daughter was now the ashened and solum faced young lady that withdrew from even her contact "I promise you she was never like that as a child....."
Hardening her resolve the wealthy older woman locked eyes with Valen - her stare not challenging or aggressive but soft and almost pleading
"The invitation for dinner is still open~ though I can't imagine you would want to take it after tonights events..........Jackie will never admit she was wrong, even if the evidence is in front of her nose she will do what she does best, with draw from the world......but, the O'conner family will do what ever you ask to put this horrible situation to rest with you"
(( -////- if this goes on much longer i'm going to have to make her a character ))
********
Jackie grimaced and finally pulled the last button on her pyjamas into place - her dress crumpled in a haphazurdus, one handed fold on her computer chair, her heels had been long since thrown out of her bedroom window in her temper to get them off her feet.
Discarding the wet, make-up caked rag she had used to wash her face, Jackie turned to make her way to bed.
Falling flat onto of the fluffy blanket Jackie sighed, grabbing the end and rolling over until she resembles something akin to a human caterpillar, her anger fading into exhaustion the moment her body felt the comforting warmth of her blanket.
Maybe tomorrow would be better?
((~ Random Crack time ~ ))
The hobo sat in the alleyway, yelling in rage as he rubbed the bump forming on his head. Who ever had attacked him with a pare of party heels was defiantly not getting them back! Grabbing the shoes the homeless male stuffed them into his trolly and stalked out of the ally way muttering~
Just because he was a man didn't mean that in summer he couldn't make use of the shoes.
((o.o ok don't ask where I got the idea for the hobo from all I know was it popped into my head ^^' also I will only go into explaining their house in detail if anyone actually visits - until then I don't think its overly relevant ))
