Even if Ashen did not like how Rune was right, even if she did not like him pointing out her greatest of all her flaws, she still couldn't help but find amusement in the irony of the whole arguement.

"Trauma can do that to a person." Rune shrugged with an easy smile. "Perhaps I'm the one that should be helping you rather than the other way around."

"Only if that means I can immediately pay you back in turn. I refuse to put myself into further debt to another. It's simply too dishonorable." Ashen looked deeply embarassed by the thought.

"When did I ever say you had to pay me back? I don't need anything in return, I just do these things because it's right. If I wanted payment, I would've asked for it."

"I do not like being in debt to anyone, nor do I like relying on others without making myself equally reliable."

((And Equius in a maid costume. I am still baffled by that. I'm more amused by Karkat unable to leave due to the crowd. "I HATE THE AFTERLIFE" indeed.))

"Then here's your first lesson: not everything in life requires payment. Some people do things purely out of the goodness of their heart. This is one of those times." Rune said with a smile.

"I know. I just...I just really hate the thought of leeching off of someone's kindness for long."

"You're not leeching. I told you, it's been a while since I had any sort of company here." Rune maintained his kind smile as he started to clean up the remains of their failed dinner. "I've lost track of how long I've been alone out here, so it's nice to finally have some company around here."

"Even company as unpleasant as mine?" At least Ashen was somewhat self aware.

"Yes, even company as unpleasant as you." Rune smiled jokingly.

"Are you certain you are not actually insane? Because I truly have to wonder if what you say is the truth..."

Rune just laughed. "Yes, I'm quite sure. You're welcome to stay as long as you like."

Ashen simply stared at Rune for several moments almost as if he had just admitted to a brutal murdering spree or something along those lines. "There's no doubting it, now. You're insane." Her frightened expression quickly changed to one of amusement as she let out a hearty chuckle.

"That's fine by me. They say the crazy people have more fun anyway." Rune joked while smiling a little broader now, glad to see her in higher spirits.

"Then you are in for quite a bit of fun." Writing small-conversation snark is surprisingly entertaining.
