"No, no! Nothing of the nonsort!" Maysy waved the idea away, accidentally snagging herself in the spiderweb in the process. The failure seemed to roll right off of her, and she simply prepared herself to try again. "I was wondering. Wondering is a wondrous thing! What worlds of wonder wait for the wonderers!"

It was then that Mimsy realized she was very probably dealing with a Jabberwock. The golem's spidery red eyes lit up with excitement, and she faltered in her armor creation just long enough for the spider to assume she was done.

She wasn't. The dummy met a swift demise.

"A Wonderland, perhaps?" she asked, toes wiggling. In this case, that meant the toes of many many legs, which surely looked charming.

Heeh. So it hadn't worked - but at least he'd gained information in the process. He looked around to see whether anyone had noticed his abject failure before discreetly (he hoped) beginning again.

Raisuke was surprisingly a quick learner (and, well, he'd intentionally picked the material that seemed easiest to work with. Steel versus ******** wood? There was no contest here. Also, steel conducted electricity. Which meant that Raisuke could still hurt someone pretty handily while he was wearing it. It might be a good idea to carry some of this s**t around, no?

He placed the plates, overlapping a bit this time, and ensured that the steel stuck together by carefully running a current through it. And keeping it off the ground, of course. This time when the spider charged at the dummy it came away with what he imagined to be a wince. Take that, spider, Raisuke thought smugly, patting it on the back in consolation. Come to think of it, it'd probably felt at least a bit of shock, which to Raisuke was just a part of daily life at this point. Amateur, he thought, sniffing.

"'kay," he told the spider, even though it felt a little ridiculous speaking to something that didn't seem to be sentient. "Do I bring the armor back now?"

Better question: could he keep the armor?

Maysy, whose concentration had remained unwaveringly upon her work, shrieked with excitement and flung her arms upward. The spider took this as a cue, and mauled the dummy to death.

"Yes, yes, you yearn for the yesterplace!" She clapped her hands together and enthusiastically nodded her head. "When will you have been? Or to where? What--"

It was debatable if the last word was part of her questions or if she was just exclaiming as she stumbled over her own foot.

Aisha, instead of going back to fish around in the piles of materials, just grabbed for some nearby spiderwebs.

The dummy didn't last, though she wasn't all hat surprised.

Having crafted something that she was reasonably pleased with this time, Mimsy stood back to watch her spider attack the dummy, and clapped her hands together when it actually survived.

"Congratulations!" she cheered for herself, echoed by the voice of Svensyl in her head. She was positively beaming when she turned back towards the Jabberwock ghoul, her webby bundle clutched lovingly to her chest. What an exciting venture this had already been - she'd successfully learned a new method of protection and she'd found someone familiar with Wonderland!

"I have been fairly recently, but not recently enough, as you too must understand." Her shoulders lifted in a little shrug as she paused. "If you would like for us to speak of this together, I will gladly accept your offer to collaborate!"

Puella stood back and observed some of the other students for a while. There were a couple others working with spider silk, but they seemed to be struggling a bit, too: of course, Puella realized. The spiders knew their own material best.

Maybe she'd be better off learning a thing or two from them instead. She wanted to be able to attack, too, and it sure did sound more interesting than creating armor!

But, Puella reminded herself: it was important to be able to stay alive, like her companions had back at Miasma Village. If she dissipated it wasn't good for anyone. Hm. Okay, what if she just wrapped the spider silk as tightly as she could about the torso? At least it looked fashionable, if a little less functional than she'd hoped.

"Conglomeration!" Maysy cheered in reply, mimicking the spidery ghoul's motions. "Well, we will! Moreso, must! Allow a mere moment!"

She held one clawed finger up, and in her mind the rest of the world around her paused, allowing her to work unimpeded.

There had to be some trick to this, Maysy thought, rearranging pieces to fit them together in an entirely different way. This only served to make the armor upside-down, and failed horribly.

The next attempt resulted in some sort of bizarre diagonal half-armor, which Maysy's spider tore right through.

Just because it was hilarious, Maysy made only a silly armor hat. The spider took no pleasure in this one.

Once again she tried with the spiderwebs, but as the dummy was torn down she ecided maybe to try something else instead.

While she played with the material to work out its tricks, she was well aware of the danger of getting too focused, and ending up locked onto this project for a week at a time. The gnomes had to pry her out of far too many classes already.

"Okay, I'm gonna make a skirt out of this," she whispered to her spider friend, salvaging some of the older material from her previous creations. She did just as she'd said she would, but the spider easily ripped it off, too.

Wahh! Puella knew she had to focus - in fact, probably one of her biggest flaws was that she didn't focus nearly enough - but she just wasn't good at focusing. Sometimes it was a good thing to goof off sometimes. Then she'd get right back to it.

Aisha was a little more discerning in her selection of materials. This time she went with the obvious protection. Steel plates were grabbed and secured to the dummy with as much precision as her unskilled fingers could manage.

The spider, on cue, attacked and thankfully her dummy was still standing at the end.

"Hi-Five!" She held up her hand for the spider, which held up several in answer. "Ughh.. nevermind."
