1. Things are actually quiet. Very quiet. In fact, you find yourself flying mostly dead space. Nothing seems to come your way and you find yourself thinking a lot. Just you and your thoughts. Is this really Threadfall? Somehow you thought it was going to be a lot more dangerous, or at least, with less time to think. Things do pick up with a few gusts and you and your dragon manage to flame down some stray Thread successfully, without missing any filaments. Yes! Not too bad at all! Unfortunately, the silence grips you once more and it's just you and your dragon.

Roll 2:
Quote:
19-20. It's a bit of a mixed bag here. To start, your dragon bit his or her tongue while you were feeding them stone and now there's just a constant residual ache in both your mouths. While you've managed to spit flame at the Enemy and char it into dust, you clearly need to work on your firestone toss because you wrenched an arm muscle during your last throw. Ow. To make matters worse, you wound up missing a formation change, and almost had a mid-air collision with a fellow weyrling.

As per their normal, R'iz not only wrenched a muscle in his quickness to toss a new piece of firestone to Bossuth, but the little bronze bit down on his tongue sharply enough that they both yelped and missed the clump of thread and an order to shift position. It left them dangerously alone for the brief moment before they hopped Between to join back up again and all he could do was roll his shoulder and growl his frustration. "We need to step up our game or we'll never even survive a threadfall." he hissed, mostly to himself.

Neither Cavera nor Aviforth would wish for that.Bossuth stated calmly, his eyes going gray with the thoughts and generally that alone would be enough for R'iz to wrench himself out of his depressed state. In the air he had very little he could rely upon to distract him other than the fight though and pain wasn't helping in the least. At least Bossuth wasn't hurt beyond his tongue so far, he could take a kind of solace in that even if the next move or breeze might get them both killed for it.

A call for firestone at least got their hopes up, each one making it to their target without an issue as the little bronze hopped and balanced in the wind with his powerful wings. It made everything smooth and with not just one salute but two in return, he could actually afford a quiet grin and a surge of love came from Bossuth in reaction. This was at least getting a little bit better as it went along, but he still remembered that it could change in an instant.

With the bit of encouragement that they'd gotten from the firestone passes, the pair was cutting through and flaming down thread left and right with a bit more confidence than either really had within them. Bossuth for certain wasn't the most confident of dragons so it could only last for so long. At least with the push from R'iz's comfortably distracted mind, at last, even the ash that blew back against them and scorched a bit of skin was nothing. The redhead sent an image of the washing pools to distract him as he shook it from the end of his nose and dove for the next clump.

Not one but two dragonrider pairs had already fallen from the sky, the worst was happening, but at least there was no one who had died yet. Seeing the searing of dragons, the pain that others were taking all around them, R'iz flashed for a moment to Telgar, to Thread's return. It felt as if lightning struck him only a second later and when he blinked the teen realized he was gazing at a red eye turned back towards him.

I'm here. came Bossuth's voice, but it held all the angry lightning it had smashed into his head with seconds before and he realized what had nearly happened in the moments he'd been distracted. A blue tail skirted by them and he shivered despite his riding jacket. Everyone's fine, don't be drawn into the past.

One slip up and he'd forever sink in on himself and they both knew it.

Everything seemed to be going great. You manage to flame down quite a few clumps, and are even able to show off some impressive aeriel displays. Look at how amazing you are! Unfortunately, as a new Threadfighter, you’re finding it a lot more dizzying. Your jumps Between are sloppier than they usually are at drills. If you are a more confident rider, your sudden confusion winds up costing you. In your attempts to correct your earlier trouble, you overcompensate for your earlier mistakes and this time wind up jumping Between right into a clump of Thread. Damage Take -5 damage.

By no means proud of the aerial skills that they were showing off as they twisted through the winds and caught thread, R'iz at least slipped into state of comfort. It wasn't monotonous like some of the physical cleaning work he'd done as a candidate and a junior weyrling but it was something he could sink into. Maybe sink into just a bit too far though, as a cry from Bossuth alerted him to the risk of the last excessively wobbly jump they'd made. It was the last in a series and he struggled to try to make up for it as fast as he could, wanting to ease the dragon's fear.

It not only didn't work but it wound up costing them both. The clump of thread tore more into Bossuth, who did his best to try and take all the damage, but R'iz's mind blanked for just long enough to make it sear into them harshly. Even the cold of Between didn't take the burning in his memory away.

Even as they popped out of Between the pain that had started to ease didn't go away, it seared through the pair of them and Bossuth's scream was cut short as the two of them skipped back Between again towards a clear section of air. They hoped. Shards and shells it was painful but as they broke into clear air R'iz hissed in pain and tried to focus again. A blast of encouragement shook through both of them suddenly and he glanced over to see Shar and Yulaniath searing their way into their position.

They were halfway through, but it felt as though they'd been fighting for such a short time....

Bossuth roared in response to his sister's arrival, his eyes still red with gray tinted around the edges. Just a little bit longer then.

Still, despite the buff of confidence and strength they still continued to make mistakes and were flush with pain regardless. Bossuth's tongue spread pain through both of their mouths and with R'iz's quick toss the muscle that was twisted and hurt before was wrenched once again. Greenhorns through and through, likely the worst of their entire weyrling group.

Failures.

Neither was sure where the feelings were coming from, Bossuth's lack of confidence in himself or R'iz's grief turning into guilt for his dragon being wounded thanks to what he thought was his own failings. Both most likely, but they couldn't shake it.

It just continued with Bossuth slamming into a fellow Weyrling when he bit his tongue once again, pain flashing through them and a bellow of anger and hurt coming from his classmate.

Shaffit all, they really were failures. The little bronze's skin dulled to almost gray as he readjusted his position.

Firestone run! A weyrlings primary purpose, after all. Roll 5 D100s. Evens are successful tosses that make their mark. Odds are botched tosses that result in a second or third throw needed. (Succeeded in all tosses, two salutes in return)

Roll 4:

15. As you're wheeling and diving and cutting through the thread, you make some impressive moves. Your dragon takes some ash damage but it's light, and a reminder to try to avoid flying directly into the burning flames. Damage -2 HP

Thankfully, throughout, you do manage to see some thread coming right at a fellow weyrling. You call out to them and save the day! My oh my, how impressive you are! Save Quote a wingmate and nullify any damage they're to take!

Roll 5:

16. Things start off slow, but you manage to catch a few strands of Thread. For the most part, you realize that things seem to be a mix of quiet followed by moments of stress. You catch a solid tangle, but another few strands fall through. You find it's tricky when there are entire groups falling overhead together, and you find yourself struggling to make the right choice on what to catch. In one instance, you almost singe a wingmate by forgetting your airspace. Rookie mistake!

Roll 6:

Everything seemed to be going great. You manage to flame down quite a few clumps, and are even able to show off some impressive aeriel displays. Look at how amazing you are! Unfortunately, as a new Threadfighter, you’re finding it a lot more dizzying. Your jumps Between are sloppier than they usually are at drills. If you are a more confident rider, your sudden confusion winds up costing you. In your attempts to correct your earlier trouble, you overcompensate for your earlier mistakes and this time wind up jumping Between right into a clump of Thread. Damage Take -5 damage.

[If this is your 3rd time rolling, you take -4 HP from all the tongue-biting and arm wrenching, and quote a Weyrling to take -5HP from damage.]

18. You're doing great and feeling good! Though you wind up with a few small ashburns, and you're still feeling a little anxious, nothing has gone horribly wrong. You're feeling good, and that's what matters. You and your dragon surely are naturals, baby! Good job! You're certain the Weyrlingmaster's have noticed your natural skill.

Even a good toss up to a wingrider above didn't help, they'd managed that once before and R'iz could only sink further and further into guilt. It seemed as though that might even have given them a tiny confidence boost that they hadn't deserved to have. They were just causing themselves and others to suffer.

It was a good thing that they were going to be in remedial lessons anyway, that was the only thing that either of them could think as a hunk of firestone slammed into Thistreth's side instead of where he'd aimed.

This was the end....

They were both through.

5-6. Your adrenaline is pumping and you feel fit to fight! Whatever fears or worries you have, you’re absolutely ready to take the world by storm. Your dragon wheels and dives, and you wind up successfully flaming some strands. Of course, you also find yourself suddenly dangling in some mighty precarious positions as your dragon avoids getting smacked by a tangle of Thread. The straps you so valiantly worked on are the only thing keeping you from plummeting to your death. Let’s hope Thread doesn’t latch onto those thick leathers… and if they do, that your backup security straps work! Thankfully, as the fight continues, you focus on what’s important--flaming down Thread. If brown or bronze, you play a bit of hero. Knowing your dragon should be able to take a hit, you can Self-Sacrifice. Quote a wingmate and take their damage instead. While it may hurt you, it also means you were able to save the day.

In the eleventh hour they seemed to be doing... well.. okay-ish. They didn't have much confidence left in either of them to truly think that they were doing well, especially after hitting D'mon's dragon with firestone, but Bossuth at least was feeling just a little bit of a buff and was blasting thread left and right. It might have been that which caused him to become just a bit reckless when R'iz seemed to be blank. Maybe if his beloved rider hadn't been all up in his own head, just going through the motions, maybe it wouldn't have happened.

But that sheet of thread was gliding towards one of his clutchmates and Bossuth, well he couldn't let that happen could he?

The little bronze, knowing full well that he was already worn out, that it was the end, that he was weaker than every dragon up in the sky right now... dove in front of it. Thread wrapped around both himself and R'iz, it snapped the redhead out of his thoughts, out of his mechanical motions. Too late.

Far too late.

A trail of ichor and blood trailed through the air. There wasn't time for a scream. There wasn't time for pain.

11.Ouch, ouch, ouch, and more ouch. When it rains it pours, or so the saying goes, and while some of your wingmates might be in relatively quiet airspace, the wind keeps kicking Thread into yours! While you and your dragon flame and charr the ancient enemy, it unfortunately doesn’t leave you unscathed.
---4. You and your dragon are blown right into a large patch that wraps itself around you both. While you think jumping Between isn’t going to be an issue, the pain has you screaming in panic. The leathers you wear don’t seem to protect for long and you struggle to visualize where to go Between. Damage -10 HP and/or death if you choose either from wounds or getting lost Between. You may also KO yourself and fall from the sky to have an NPC gold pick you up and return you to the Weyr for treatment. You’ll be out the rest of the game though.

Rune and Saevath were on their best, at last. The pair were ready, straps settled, and the Green was all but bouncing against her Rider's hands. She wanted up, she wanted to fight, and the red in her eyes was almost blood-crimson. Her excitement and anger both flooded Rune like a wave, along with a small hint of sharp encouragement. No fear, no doubt. We were MADE for this. No Thread will stand against us! When at last the order was called, the pair were in the air with little hesitation, Saevath bugling a crackling call that was almost like a laugh. Indeed, she was cackling madly as they flew to their airspace. What Rune didn't expect was clumps of thread to keep being blown by the wind...right in to them.

Saevath was mostly able to keep up, puffing belches of flame at the ancient enemy as it came towards her, cackling madly all the while. There was a sudden gust that pushed them in to a thick sheet of thread, however, and both Green and Rider screamed in tandem. Thread wrapped around both, and Rune did her best to focus around the insane pain that was starting to burn in her head. Neck, shoulder, and ribs were being eaten by the stuff, as well as Sae's wingsail and leg, and part of her neck. Focus was nearly impossible, but they HAD to get Between.

She managed to just barely get an image in her mind, and as she did, she and the Green blinked Between. For those that knew them, it would take a few seconds too long. 4...5 seconds, to be exact, before the pair managed to flutter back through, worse for wear, exhausted, but still determined to try. Sure, Rune's leathers were damaged, but they could still fight just a little longer....just a bit longer....What do you think, Sae. Can we go on?
Until my mind finds unconsciousness, and I fall from the sky, MIne.
