Vegetables might be a better option if you can get him to go for those. They're more nutritious and the platies probably won't go for them. Aside from that I agree with Akari on brands.Ninja Loooooooooved Yellow Squash. Pretty much all he'd eat lol My Cherry Barbs went for veggies, but they're made for bottom feeding, where as Platties are not, so I'm not sure if they'e try to eat them or not. Either way, its not like they'll get much off of it, since its not how they are intended to feed.

I think they'll leave lettuces alone, but anything soft they might go for. Even so, they wouldn't be able to eat the whole thing on him. My keyhole cichlid loooves vegetables, especially lettuce, but even he only eats like 1/3 of what I put in there, so SL and snaily get the rest.

I DID see Hikari. But because I still have this big bag of wafers I didn't buy it. I don't want the wafers I have to go completely to waste. The veggie clip was 5 bucks, I thought I'd lookd for a cheaper one. And EVERY time I think to buy frozen food I forget what's good for platies gonk

As long as they get some protien, it doesnt really matter what they eat. You can boil a slice of squash or what ever and it will just sink down to the sand. You can also microwave it to get the effect wink

Meet Starbuck  Or Borealis maybe, (aurora borealis=northen lights). He looks kinda greyish in the shot but he's actually a silvery blue. Other names I thought of were Fawkes (the pheonix) and sky. I want something that is short, or can be abbreviated nicely. Something that sort of, goes with his colorfulness, but is simple and cute. He's floating with the platies at the moment. He was being kept with a female betta so, I know he's not overly aggressive, but, I'm being paranoid lol. Oh, also, I picked him mainly because of his personality. There was two other betta's I was considering. Really really unique and pretty. But both were skidish and totally not interested in me. This guy seemed really chill and kind of social.

Akari_32 So pretty! He and my new boy are almost TWINS! heart heart heart heart heart Not exactly lol. But they do have the light bodies with the deep red fins. I have him in the tank with the lights out (as instructed the last two times I got fish) but tomorrow when the lights go on I'll try again to get a pick that shows his real colors. The light from my camera made him look a lot whiter than he is. I kind of like the name Fawkes cause he has like, stripes on his dorsal fin that remind me of a bird lol. Plus the red fins make me think of a pheonix. I love the dark patch ur boy has on his head he looks like a Koi fish lol

Okay, after a long conversation with Cowgirl about the show avatar (the last airbender) I have decided the fish's name is Zuko! After the firelord's son. Who starts off as a bad guy but ended up being my favorite charactor (with Sokka in close second)

Great show, too lol The movie- FAIL! Horrible fail. But the show I love =3 Agreed on all accounts. I really don't like who they picked to play Zuko. I always thought the cartoon Zuko was hawt. And they couldn't be bothered to give him his crazy hair do! That is so important! Cause he cuts it off when changes his way, and as his natural hair is growing back he becomes more and more likeable. Plus Iroh, and Sokka, suppose to be funny and they were SOOO serious. The only thing I loved about the movie though, omg, the choreographed martial arts scenes, especially like, the water benders, all perfectly syncronized. Really awesome. Makes me mad that they screwed everything else up so bad, cause potentially could have been such an amazing movie. They also sped through it pretty fast. Hard to believe Sokka is in love with the princess when it's like, this is the princess, now they're in love, now she's dead, feel sad.

There's so much going on in my tank right now. Shy (clown pleco) is struggling with having to venture half an inch out of his cave to get his food. Every time he chases off a platy I actually cheer LOL. When he tries to eat it though, he keeps knocking it further from his hide, until it's just too far and he goes back to hiding. The platies have nothing but food on the brain, except the one male, who keeps pestering the females but can't seem to figure out what to do when he catches up to one. Meanwhile Prince Zuko ( Butterfly Betta ) is just swimming around gracefully, just keeping to himself. Man, community tanks are entertaining.
Dad says: "what's all that crap at the bottom of the tank"
me: "those are all snails"
dad "but I thought you had three"
me: "yup...I did....But they exploded, into many lil snails."
I'm going to charge my cam and see if I can get some of this on film.

Dont you just love communites? lol They are so interesting to watch, because each species usually keeps to its self and does its own thing, unless of course food is involved, then watching them squabble of the same piece of food is quite entertaining XD

Oh and Shy is cute! Thanks! I can't stop starring at him lol.I can't wait to get a better pic. He's like a shiny silvery blue, with blood red fins and black butterflying.Then to top it off. He actually has stripping on his dorsal fin. I'm super happy I got him. Oddly the solid common betta's were in the betta bowls and this guy, a marble (I think it's called) and another bicolor (blue with white butterfly) were in the plant tanks. I only knew to look there cause I'd seen betta's when I was plant shopping.
