Under 18 mature content ban is ...
  Terrible!
  I support it!
I don't care either way (and I am under 18)

As you may or may not know, Deviant Art is now blocking all people under 18 from viewing pictures that contain "Mature Content", even if it is their own deviation. How does this effect you? Some argue that since it is an artistic community, it is the right of everyone to view the works of others. Others say that people abuse this former right to view n***s as porn. Does censorship play into this? Is the general public too sensitive to suggestive images? At what point should we really consider an image mature? Are all n***s "tasteful"? What about freedom of speech and press, does the ban violate our freedom of expression?

State your case!

I really don't mind...
I mean, if they want to do that, they can.
it hasn't effected me in the least.
But I'd really prefer it if they didn't.
Mature doesn't always necessarily mean 'nude', right?

I've had picture that are G-rated get Lewd comments. Apparently many people on DA think a girl covered in fur, in a basic hands to sides standing pose wearing a toube top and a loincloth is mature.

no, mature doesn't restrict n***s alone.
I believe it also covers language, explicit "descriptions" in written deviations, and suggestive materials.

Mcleods example above would be categorized by some a suggestive because not everyone tolerates simplistic forms of clothing, even though there is nothing showing.

Mature ratings are subjective to the audience.

which is much a reason against a all out ban, heck, some still claim showing ankle is too much flesh and pornographic.... what if one of them got to the DA Admins?

We would have to hope the Admins can mediate the problem. I have no problem with your picture or even the majority of n***s, though I have seen some that were... not expressed in a creative way. But, then again we can't assume they weren't meant to be, not everyone is so great at expressing their creativity.

Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your Knickers down.

has DA just changed the way in which we post, in reference to Mature content...
I just had to specify before it would let me post whether it was mature[strict], mature[warning], mature[no]
maybe this is there new answer to people complaining? Artists get to choose whether sub 18+ kids can view it? of course a warning still might disallow them... i'm not sure how it works =p

I'm under 18, but I don't really care. I can scan over DA with my younger brother and not be afraid of some nude person poping up in his face. I know that some nudity is art, but if it's sexual I dont' want to have to see it. It's not that I'm not mature enough to see it, I just don't care for it. As for language and violence, what the heck. I don't care if I see it or not.

DA has just changed the policy! Certain deviations can be viewed by those under 18.

well is that in relation to my post 2 up? i.e. it makes it the artists choice pretty much?

I beleive that tampering with art (especialy ones own submission) is being very disrespectful to it in all of its forms.

I have a strong beleif that you cannot toy with ones art nor toy with the right of determination of viewing form some one elses. It is strictly the artist's descision to decide wether it should be sensored or not.

sad

But there is the sensor options.
I think that was the fix no?

It's a touchy subject, but if I think they are doing the right thing. If someone under 18 wants to see it bad enough, they claim age 18+ if not they can have those images blocked. It's still ultimately up to the user.

It was annoying when absolutely everything was banned, but the "strict mature" and "explicit mature" filters are better. Now there are less minors complaining about "seeing things they didn't want to see" and less complaints about people being unable to view mature deviations at all.
Being over the age-limit, I have absolutely nothing to complain about any longer.
